If there's one thing this indicates, it's that the "hip, post-modern musical" formula that made Disney so much money during the 2010s is getting played out, just as the Broadway-style musical formula did at the end of the 1990s. So what new formula is going to replace it?

On the theory that things go in cycles, probably a return to the Broadway style musicals.............

I don't think you guys realize the style of music that was in Disney movies for the past 10 years or so is in fact, modern broadway style. Same composers and everything.

Big setback for anyone who is expecting a Heron upset against ATSV. Heron isn't even nominated here. In the past 14 years, every eventual Oscar Best animated feature won here, except the only time a movie that didn't get to win an Oscar while it won ACE was The Lego movie.

    Best Edited Animated Feature Film

    • Elemental — Stephen Schaffer, ACE
    • Nimona — Randy Trager, ACE; Erin Crackel
    • Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — Michael Andrews, ACE
    • The Super Mario Bros. Movie — Eric Osmond
    • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem — Greg Levitan, ACE

something tells me this is biased to American movies.

I think that Lord of the Rings animated movie could be a dark horse next year. It's got a cool director. I've got hopes for it. another big studio release that's 2D animation that's a big deal these days.

I'm actually very sus of that movie because I'm not overly fond of the lord of the rings, but yes the director does have an impressive resume.

  4. This might be a little of a tangent, but I was just thinking of how dire this category might be in 2025's Oscars, for thr 2024 movies.

The only animated movie distributed by Disney will be Inside Out 2 and the sequels for Pixar movies don't usually win unless they're called "Toy Story".

Spider-Verse 3 is probably not coming out this year. I don't have any idea of what to expect from the movies Dreamworks animation will put out this year...

So the Oscar could very well go to something off my radar at this point.

I still think The Holdovers is the #2 to Oppenheimer. Missing Best Director looks bad initially but whatever it's not a showy movie like that. It's the one that has that "feel good" vibe the Oscars like sometimes. It got all the same nominations Green Book got put it that way.

I don't believe for a minute The Holdovers will win Best Picture.
