  1. 13 years ago though the Yen was twice as valuable compared to the USD. How the turntables...
  2. I think people mostly associate DreamWorks animation movies with Shrek. Maybe also Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. DreamWorks used to be the studio people assumed all non-Disney animation was made from. Like people might think Ice Age was DreamWorks, when it wasn't
  3. https://www.indiewire.com/awards/industry/new-oscars-animation-rule-2025-1234976742/ What’s Behind the New Animation Oscar Rule Change? Easier Crossover Qualification The Academy just paved the way for animated films submitted for Best International Feature to qualify for Best Animated Feature.
  4. INSIDE OUT 2 IS THE FIRST PIXAR MOVIE WITH A MOSTLY FEMALE STORY TEAM that's part of the same article. Some people are confused because they thought Turning Red had an all female story team, but what it actually had was all female leadership.
  5. well yeah that's the point. Domee Shi even said on the original Inside Out, where she was a story artist, she was happy that "being a teenage girl" was one thing she was an expert in.
  6. https://pixarpost.com/2024/04/inside-out-2-story-heart-humor-go-behind-the-scenes-of-the-film.html This seems to be the actual source of this information. Dunno what it says that they needed teenage girl consultants when they didn't need them for Turning Red.
  7. Uncut Gems helped inspire Inside Out 2 https://www.polygon.com/24131409/inside-out-2-preview-first-look-new-emotions-uncut-gems
  8. https://harpers.org/archive/2024/05/the-life-and-death-of-hollywood-daniel-bessner/ This is an interesting article, though it could be said that what the writer calls the death of Hollywood is the death of a lucrative writing career.
  9. It's a parody of the Mission Impossible poster with characters from an anime.
  10. What do you mean by massive? I don't think any of them are making over $400m Dom.
  11. I'm thinking more that $125m is the tops for Garfield and it could go under $100m Dom. 🤷‍♂️
  12. I'm kind of low on Garfield, but maybe it can reach a Migration total.
  13. So I think this is getting at least 2 weeks of IMAX/PLF, right? June seems pretty sparse.
  14. Yeah that's the trend. Monsters University, Finding Dory, Incredibles 2... all have positive reviews but not as high as the original. Don't know why people think Inside Out 2 would be different.
  15. Hmm so this did about 3X the OD of the Pixar releases. Dunno what people expected though.
  16. Do Dollar theaters even still exist? There was once a $2.50 ticket movie theater near me but it closed. I think the whole rush to streaming killed a lot of them.
  17. I'd guess not. In any case, $25 OW would be absolutely amazing for Civil War. It could even be profitable from ticket sales alone, which I don't think anyone thought would happen.
  18. I don't really remember that but Disney's pre covid successes did spoil us in a way
  19. Well the pandemic was kind of a once every 100 years thing. I don't think there will be another disruption like that soon.
  20. Not my point at all. Do you think Pocahontas was intentionally bad? I mean there was the story that The Lion King was seen as the lesser project at Disney at the time. My point is not every movie can be great
  21. I'm thinking more that the "make good movies" strategy is like the "just win every election" strategy for political parties. Untenable to have them all be winners.
