I personally estimate Turning Red will have a $240,000 Friday. Compared to Soul's $120,000 Friday. Could be wrong though. Just based on my snooping on the shows.

There are around ten animated films (8 last time I checked) from before Snow White. 3 of which survived. The common factor between them all is Germany.
what kind of animation did they use?

I ultimately think that a sequel would be diminishing returns for Disney, making at most $400 million WW, and with a budget of $200 million, that's a little dicey. However, Pixar is laying off hundreds of people so I guess their budgets are going down...

It did not even make top 50 in disk sales, and that gorgeous animation looks impossible to make for a cheaper price. I think it is too risky. In fact in this sequel driven age not having a sequel would help it stick out.
In fairness I feel that Disney has mostly abandoned the disk market. Disney plus really put a damper on the whole buying a blu ray for the kids thing. The only Disney stuff that made the list in 2023 was Marvel and Indiana Jones...
Interesting though I see both Encanto and Turning Red were on the top 50 disk sales for 2022, but they are far less dominate on physical sales as they are on streaming.

I thought the meme was a winking to not really wanting to reopen the rant about the film.
And yeah, it was uncomfortable to watch a kids movie that felt like the writers were just vomiting out a troubled relationship with their parents on screen as a form of therapy.
Feels sort of mean to say about the writers so I'm trying to just tiptoe around it.
Meh I mean no one saw Strange World, not even me so I don't mind. People say the same shit about Turning Red though and that's a fave of mine.

morally unpleasant film.
morally unpleasant? Seriously now. Is it because of the gay shit?

I just think it pretty much can't be terrible like Strange World
I haven't seen Strange World but if I recall it got better reviews than Wish.

Basically, if Moana 2 is as bad as Disney knew Strange World was, there's no reason for them to make it a big, splashy theatrical tentpole (save for perhaps studio/boardroom politicking) instead of making it a cheaper and smaller planned D+ release. It's not like kids disliked those direct to VHS/DVD features.
sure there's a reason to release a shitty movie in theaters. It makes more money than streaming does.

Tbh even Mario reception where it’s not a good movie at all but entertains kids and the nostalgic audience is enough.
I don't think Disney would mind making Mario money at all lol. I mean sure Oscars are nice too, but only if they're in service to the bottom line.

On second thought, maybe I shouldn't be basing my opinion on the quality of this film based on people posting here, because already misinformation correction is happening.
I'm not sure what that has to do with my entirely factual comment about the movie's release date being the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Disney is going for record low PTA for sure 🙂
Eh I think it's going to do marginally better than Soul, which doesn't count for much.

Even after Soul was pretty much a failure in 1,350 theaters, Turning Red gets more...

Just realized there's precedence to make the Tiana show into a movie as well after this. Which I guess would work okay. Both Tiana and her movie are more popular than ever, and you can sell it as "2D animation is back!"
Maybe if the budget is low enough they'll consider putting it in theaters.

I actually really like this movie but I didn't vote for it. I kind of forgot.

Has anyone here seen The Ring by Wagner in person? Do they even still stage productions of that anymore??
I am guessing they do.

The only promo i've seen is a collab with Fly By Jing, and that's only because I buy their Zhong sauce and get ads for them on IG.
honestly wouldn't have expected that crossover. I mean Turning Red did a Panda Express thing, but having a crossover with a smaller brand seems odd.

I kind of said this in some other threads but I do wonder if Turning Red can make $1 million this weekend. Soul made $430,000 the first three days.
