  1. @Cynosure You are right. I really thought CA3 would be huge here but Deadpool and Zootopie actually did better at the opening week.
  2. @cannastop I will be honest with you, I didn't even watch Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis. But after watching a few extracts, my internal anti-Z movie sensor detected that this is the kind of French movie I really dislike: old fashioned, tacky francocentric humor about the regional culture of Northern France. I should probably watch this movie to really judge it, all the more so as the ratings are not so terrible (3 stars out of 5 on average on allocine.fr). I can't help though, I just have a very bad feeling about it. I guess growing up with iconic, top of the list French movies, such as Jean de Florette, Manon of the Spring, Amélie or The Chorus make me very demanding about quality. @Giesi @Cynosure I actually never thought about the UEFA Euro cup but it will certainly affect the film business. It will depend if our respective countries go far in the tournament.
  3. This is a good question. Maybe Civil War, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story or Moana... Well, if Zootopie stays in the top 3 this year in my country, I will be more than happy ^^
  4. Not really, the trailer didn't look so bad but not great either As for the usual #1 admissions total, I had a look at it on this websiste: http://www.jpbox-office.com/charts_france.php?qpage=datefr&variable=2016 It is very fluctuating so it is a bit hard to give an avergae. In some years, the 1st movie will attract more than 10 million people; in some other years, it will attract 6 or 7 million. I noticed that there is always a big difference between the 1st and 2nd place. I will probably be hard for Zootopie to retain the fist place Here are the admission figures for the 1st movie over the past 9 years: 2016 Zootopie 4 629 033 2015 Star Wars : Le Réveil de la Force 10 466 198 2014 Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu ? 12 361 430 2013 Frozen 5 151 855 2012 Skyfall 7 003 902 2011 Intouchables 19 490 688 2010 Harry Potter et [...] mort - partie 1 6 016 776 2009 Avatar 14 677 888 2008 Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis 20 489 303 (so depressing, seriously...) 2007 Ratatouille 7 845 210
  5. Just to summarize a few things about Zootopie in France: It is the most watched movie in 2016 in France. What a delight really, even tough it might be an ephemeral title because Civil War is growing fast here but it is still a feat. Here are the admission figures: 1. Zootopie: 4 616 285 entrées 2. Les Tuche 2: 4 598 104 entrées 3. The Revenant: 3 761 075 entrées Source: http://www.lefigaro.fr/musique/2016/04/26/03006-20160426ARTFIG00310-box-office-france-zootopie-le-plus-gros-succes-du-debut-de-l-annee.php Despite the very strong competition with Deadpool, the Revenant and to a lesser extent Divergent 3 when Zootopia came out in France, it was a big hit. It had rave reviews from French spectators (4.5/5 with +4600 ratings in Allocine.fr) and media. As of 4/17, Zootopia grossed $31,147,097. I would say it might go above $32 or 33 million but sadly, more and more theaters are pulling it off, so it is hard to predict... @Quigley I have no idea for the Jungle Book, sorry. :/ @cannastop Yeah, in my opinion, Ratchet & Clank was a bit a flop here, no one really cared about this movie. There were virtually no ads about it...
  6. Thank you very much @edroger3 and @cannastop ! It makes more sense now. I see that exchange rate make quite a big difference. @Claudio: You're right, my figures were too high. @LMAbacus: OMG! Sorry, this made me laugh so hard. This person should be awarded an official passport of Zootopia by Disney or something. He/she must know all the scripts by heart. ^^
  7. I am sorry for veering a bit off the topic but I have a question regarding the BO Mojo and the-numbers.com websites. Basically, I see a difference in numbers for Zootopia in some countries in these two links: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=disney2016.htm http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Zootopia#tab=international For example in Russia: Zootopia grossed $33,799,743 as of 4/17/16 in the Mojo website. But in the-numbers website, Zootopia grossed $30,442,584 as of 4/20/2016 (it doesn't seem logic). Is it me or is there something wrong with one of the two websites? Thanks for any clarification. Holy sh**! 14 times! And I though that my 8 times were already big lol. I don't know who holds the world record but I think you are a good contender ^^
  8. Zootopia will be in competition next weekend with Captain America CW. I wonder if super hero movies (Marvel, DC...) are popular in Japan...
  9. As much as I would love to see Zootopia crossing $1B worldwide, I have a strange feeling that it will be tough. The movie grossed already 907$ million, which is obviously very good, but it has already been released for at least a month or 2 in all the countries around the world, with a few exceptions like the U.K., New Zealand or Israel. Of course, Zootopia can add a few more millions WW but probably not that much. Japan is one of the last markets so basically, it will have to perform very well. I bet that it should make at least $80 million there to make sure to hit $1 billion ww. Anyway, go Zootopia!
  10. Does anyone know when and where we can see the admissions (tickets sold) for the UK?
  11. Wow, I barely watch 4-5 movies every year at the cinema lol. The price here is around £7 I would say.
  12. Lol, I did exactly the same calculation as you but I didn't dare to say anything because, well... I am a newbie in this kind of stuff ^^' I though the ticket price in the UK was around 6 pounds
  13. That's what I would have guessed as well. $35 million would be a very good result considering that Zootopia was released at a much later date in the UK.
  14. Nah, don't worry, I am just kidding. It's not a bad thing really. I just wished Zootopia was more successful in my country than in the UK but it is a just childish and trivial. I am actually delighted that Zootopia is huge success and I already hope (probably like you) for a sequel!
  15. That's a very impressive start for The Jungle Book. I would say it will certainly hit $40 million in the end. Oh no... the UK Box office of Zootopia already reaching $29.5 million... equaling French BO... (sigh)
  16. Thanks Heretic. It is indeed very strange considering, as you mentioned, that the UK is a very big market. Even for the US, it looks like the total gross is only taken into consideration for measuring the success of a movie.
  17. Hi guys! I am totally new here - and I must say, a total newbie in the BO domain - but I find this thread interesting. I just have a few simple questions: It appears to me that in English-speaking websites, the total gross made by a movie is much more important than the number of people who went to see this movie. Why is it so important? In my country, France, we mainly (to not say, all the time) look at the audience figure. It makes me wonder if it is not a cultural difference... That being said, of course, I understand that from a production company's point of view, the money earned is very important. I like looking at both figures (total gross and tickets sold) because they tell me a bit more if a movie was more successful in one country than the other. Inflation, exchange rate, average price ticket might be criteria to take into consideration. Do you also look at both figures? Where can I see the audience figures for the UK please? (for example: Zootopia attracted 4.5 million people here in France, how about the UK?). Many thanks!
