Then I am wrong and I accept that. The numbers are the same (sometimes even higher on Mojo) so that must be the correct answer. Thanks.

Everyone else who knows more feel free to pitch in so I understand all the details once and for all. So do they take the exchange rate from the day of the gross? And then add those together, right? I can see how that can complicate things for us (especially when you're looking back at week to week numbers and they go down instead of going up because the exchange rates mess with the totals), following box office, but I guess financially it makes sense that way for the studio to get the most out of its gross.

Yes. They do and for the rest of movie's run they always use the same exchange rate.

    Here's a detail example :

    - X country sell tickets for ¥1 each

    - ER when the movie released : ¥1 = $1

Let's say the movie sell a million tickets on opening weekend.

    That means : 1,000,0000 x 1 = ¥1,000,000 ( local currency ) converse it to dollar = $1,000,000

Second weekend the ER fell to ¥1 = $0.5

    Let's say 500,000 tickets sold

On real value it should be :

    ¥500,000 x 0.5 = $250.000 so the total should be $1.250.000 BUT BOX OFFICE ISN'T LIKE THAT

Box office uses the old ER when the movie opened (¥1=$1) therefore the math goes:

    ¥500,000 = $500,000 and the total is $1,500,000

If they adjust the ER for the total gross then it must be pretty stressful cause ER changes every day.

Around $31 million without China, can't give you an exact number because exchange rates at the time messed with weekly grosses in China, so the total dropped week to week instead of rising (exactly what happened with Endgame, by the way, only to a lesser level).

But I can tell you it's not smaller than $29 million and it's not bigger than $31.2 million, so somewhere around there.

And by the way (not directed at you Zatt, this is in general because I see a lot of misconceptions around here) the actual final gross in China, what the studio reported, what they actually made over there is $614,316,021, the number on Box Office Mojo. Why? Because the final gross is counted in the local currency and converted on the last day of its run to dollars at that day's exchange rate. Disney gets 25% of that, so naturally that's what they report. If the exchange rate between Yuan and USD would have stayed leveled we'd be looking at an extra $16 million worldwide right now and a much closer finish to the worldwide record, where a late push could have actually made a difference.

So in essence the trade war screwed up Endgame's shot at the record big time.

How many times the same thing needs to be repeat again and again and all over again ???

The ER adjustment on Mojo doesn't mean shit. They just a site who collects number not an official source.

Disney is the source and they ( likely other studios as well ) always uses the ER when the movie released to determine the total.

For Example , Mojo adjust the China total to $614M from $629M that Disney has. Therefore the WW total on Mojo should change to $12M lower than what Disney. But in fact it didn't Cause Mojo ER adjustment IS USELESS. The studio is the real source.

  3. Opening weekend : $123M

    second weekend : $78M

    that’s an OUTRAGEOUS 36.5 % DROP.

could target 35% drop with actuals.

I’m expecting $335M OS total until next weekend.

    Great things are

-the frontloaded China already opened (it also seems has a decent hold there tho ).

-the leggiest market still to come ( Japan )

so expect a great hold over next weeks with DP looking to flop , KotM and MiB looking to be an underperformed and SLOP not looking too good ( UK is an early indication )

Logically, you'd think it might be affected somewhat

But Disney seems to defy logic this year, so probably just increase the predictions for TLK instead.

Yes. Everything can happens. Defying logic , over perform , crashing and break out always fun when it happens. But prediction is fun when you're using logic , comp and data history. So let's discuss using logical way 😁

1 month is plenty of time. If anything it will be more a problem for FFH, but that should have pretty different demographics for its OW than TS4 would be getting at that point.

1 month is plenty of time when you're opening blockbuster but not enough when you're opening uber blockbuster. Let's say TS4 with $200M makes $500M with shit legs then Lion king makes like most people predict around $600-$700 tot.

Now you have $500M and $600M movie in just one month. Out of 13 over $500M domestic movies rn the closest is I2 and IW with almost 2 months apart.

    Edit : wrong month count

  5. Mine :

    1. Beauty and the Beast - I watched it 4 times

    2. Aladdin - Hard to choose between this and BatB. Let's say they're on the same level. Currently 2 times watched. Will be going for 3td time

    3. Christopher Robin - Pooh is my most favorite Disney character

    4. Maleficent - watching this in theatre. Pretty good.

    5. Cinderella - pretty good too. Lily James

    6. MPR - plot is so thin and simple. The song saves this.

    7. Pete's Dragon - not so bad. But....

    Eh...

    8. Dumbo - mediocre. At least Dumbo was cute.

    9. Jungle Book - I don't like it. Maybe because I have too much expectation after the reviews out.

Never watch Alice 1, 2 , Nutcracker and others.

  6. This will have a good opening at least in Indonesia. 5-day OW with Thursday being a holiday will be a big boost. I think it’s a lock this will be the #1 movie beating Aladdin second weekend going by traditional opening weekend count ( 5-day ow vs 3-day 2nd weekend ) But I’m Not quite sure if its FSS can top Aladdin second weekend yet. The real problem is the screen count. Godzilla gets all the premium seat ( IMAX , Premiere , etc ) and 1-2 regular screens ( depends on how big the theatre is ) while Aladdin still occupies 2-4 regular screens thanks to great WOM. Either way , most showings for those two movies are full and they both will coexist just fine. More likely a good opening for Zilla and strong hold for Aladdin.

Did I watch the same movie as everyone else here? The movie felt about as hollow as I was expecting it to be. I guess I’ll give it points for making more of an effort to deviate from the animated film compared to Beauty and the Beast, but it still felt like another factory made remake that is completely inferior to the animated one, and that just dragged on, despite not even being that long.

Are you sure that you were watching Aladdin and not Dumbo?

Or maybe I'm an outside eye with no dog in this fight that can see both sides on equal footing and tell that one side is not worse or better than the other, despite what they might think of themselves.

Don't be so quick to judge a book by its cover, I might look new but maybe I'm not so new.

Well , so you’re a neutral side. Congrats. Yet you were saying that this shit in this thread started when people trying to dismiss Avatar so this circle jerk shit keeps happening again and again. Therefore we are the one who you ‘blamed’ and told us  to stop. While in fact , all this shit happened because some certain Avatar fans invaded and said something which have no correlation with EG. Sorry , brother. Maybe you need to stop pretending to be a wise one.

Or you know people could just stop trying to present one as being better than the other when they're all equally incredible in their own different way. Trust me, it's not that hard, it really isn't.

People trying to dismiss Avatar now that it looks like Endgame won't pass it creates this neverending circle jerk where the Avatar fans come and claim differently and so on and so forth. If someone really feels that deeply for Endgame and the fact it lost this race, just try and be the better user, admit defeat (which is silly to even talk about but I guess we're here, what can I say) and move on respectfully and if other people continue to troll just ban them and that's it. We don't need to bring down one box office run to lift another, especially when we're talking about the two highest grossing movies of all time, the only two movies in history to make over $2.7 billion worldwide.

I see... Buddy , you're new and have no idea what happened here
