  1. Is Hobbs in prison there? Nobody goes to prison in this franchise. In the Fast series, if you're an FBI agent or in the DEA you are granted immunity for all crimes up to and including mass destruction and homicide.
  2. Avatar 2 is still going to be a huge event film. James Cameron is going to introduce the world to some shiny tech that may or may not be worth seeing in IMAX/3D or whatever BUT people will not want to miss out on that. I think the OW will be HUGE. It could crash hard but the intrigue will be enough for audiences to swarm at least initially.
  3. "You're not in America, Shaw. This is Coooobaaaa."
  4. Mixed bag. Most every Marvel film performs up to and beyond box office expectations but I do think they've made a couple films that we'll say weren't for me. I enjoy the movies to varying degrees.
  5. If this happens a month ago it would have taken Snyder off the hook a bit. I mean people scoffing at $870M, what does that look like in comparison to $525M?
  6. Wow I never expected barely over 26M for X-Men. We're seeing it either tomorrow or Monday but man it's dead. DEAD. Moving forward everything will have to revolve around Deadpool. For better or worse.
  7. I don't view the MCU as a TV-show in movie form. Civil War is about as close as it gets but most of the movies have loose ties at best. There's a lot of stuff that is just tacked on. There's not really a lot of mystery to unfold or foreshadowing or depth to the characters that will later pay off in some way. I should note that's not a knock on the movies. For the most part they are enjoyable, I just view them for what they are. A fun ride. I don't see them as Game of Thrones on the big screen. Everything is more surface level and that's all they need to be. Same goes for most.
  8. I'm very happy to see Nathalie Emmanuel back, she should be a full member of the cast why not. If I were an actor, there's not a blockbuster franchise I'd rather work on. It looks like they have so much fun during filming R.I.P Paul, it'll be weird without you.
  9. I live my life one weekend at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bullshit. For that one weekend, I'm free.
  10. I might be in the minority here but Jessica Jones did nothing for me. I thought the concept was cool and purple man was a great villain but somewhere in the middle of the season it all fell apart and left me pretty underwhelmed with the whole season. Daredevil is great. I love that series. Luke Cage could be good but the actor didn't do much for me in Jones. Right now I would rank DC television ahead of Marvel in terms of quality because I'm only seeing Daredevil as a good show (a show I love as stated before).
  11. Isn't that [overall sales numbers] because the Star Wars comics are selling like hotcakes? Whenever I see the comic book chart Batman is still the highest selling superhero by far. It just so happens that now Marvel has the Star Wars machine rolling along, it's not really a fair comparison if the goal of this thread is to look at DC and Marvel in terms of traditional comic book entities. Overall there would probably still be more interest in the Marvel heroes as a whole, I don't have the numbers in front of me but I think Batman is still the #1 guy or maybe Spider-Man depending. Spider-Man definitely when it comes to merchandise from the figures I've seen.
  12. I don't disagree. The DC Extended Universe had a chance to plant their flag in the genre and while I think the end number is a perfectly fine result, they somewhat squandered an opportunity to be Pepsi to Marvel's Coca-Cola. It's not a disaster but you only have one chance to make a first impression. Now there's more pressure on Suicide Squad because they're still looking for a home run. But this time the Homer has to come from the 7th-place hitter instead of the clean up spot. It's a lot to ask. It's amazing how a round number changes a lot though. Say this somehow crawled to a billion. We're talking a difference of a little over a hundred million which isn't massive but in this game that hundred million means everything. It's the difference between hitting 490 home runs and the 500 club.
  13. Regarding the Civil War numbers, they are in no way a failure nor is the movie underperforming. It was just the hype/tracking and critical and audience reception that had a lot of folks thinking Marvel could grow their audience and I think what we're seeing now is that 1.3 or 1.4 is probably the absolute maximum at this point for an Avengers related tie-in. The reason the trolls are out in full force is a combination of things but Marvel fans can't be spending weeks telling people that $875M for another movie is a "flop" but $1.1B is fantastic. It doesn't make sense. $1.1B is fantastic and $875M is really really good. It's only a disappointment because of how much sources have said that WB spent on production/advertising. This back and forth between fans was always terrible. I imagine the crossover between the two franchises is massive so its just an odd thing. Personally, I want both of them to do well.
