Power Rangers has a practical reason for Lionsgate not moving the March release date: its toys are on the toy shelves right now.  Moving it to August, and closer to the August 28 anniversary date of Power Rangers, would mean those toys would be on the shelves for over half of a year before what they are associated with appears in theaters.

I suspect that they'll be sold on clearance soon. It's already been mentioned anyway that this hasn't stopped studios from moving films' release dates before.

Personally, I think this movie is screwed no matter where it lands. But that's just my viewpoint.

There will have a 15 min footage showing to cinema managers on Tuesday evening(premiere). But none of them wanna watch that.

Only one media screening will play the film(not sure if that is the whole film) before opening(7pm Dec.15).

China Film Group hope the film could make ¥3 billion(about $430m) in China.

If it were to make that much money, imagine how that could change the dynamic of the film industry in Hollywood.

Of course, this won't happen. But it'd be a nice paycheck.

Not many do. But since China made more money for it than the US, we are getting a sequel starring complete non-name actors and not even directed by Del Toro anymore. GDT needs to start following through on the projects he conceptualizes, way too many "developmental hell" movies he is associated with currently.

Unfortunately, GDT likes making passion projects. Hollywood doesn't go for those.

  4. I just don't see this making more than $200 million, if it's even fortunate enough to make nearly that much. The marketing for this has been the usual fare, but with the number of likes the official Facebook page has (less than 200,000), the number of views the trailer has (less than 10 million)--especially compared to Logan and company--and the coming competition leads me to believe that this may not catch on unless there is a flurry of advertising in the coming months like Warner Bros. did for Godzilla. Either that or people just aren't interested.

We still have four months left, though. Maybe things will change.

  5. Some of these opening predictions are bold. I think that Beauty and the Beast and possibly Power Rangers will suck most of the air from Logan and Kong: Skull Island, resulting in people saving their money. I'd be happy as hell to see this make $300 million domestic. But with so much competition in a month not known for handling so many blockbusters at once, I'm not sure if that should be expected.

So, I've never much cared for this film, teaser was fine but still meh on it, you know? Then I've watched this trailer and I really enjoyed it, so I come here expecting to find everyone excited about it and I find people whining about humor of all things. I think "what the fuck" and proceed to watch the trailer again and yup, I still really enjoy it.

You guys are nuts. Is humor the new cool thing to hate on? Cause I'm starting to see a trend.

Only when WB is doing it.

Yeah, I poked fun at BvS for being "dark and gritty," but it's gotten to the point where every time humor appears in one of their trailers, people see it as WB wanting to "be like Marvel." Never mind that this is more of a Legendary Pictures movie than a Warner Bros. movie. The latter may be distributing it, but it's mainly Legendary personnel who brought it together. Otherwise, King Kong would still be collecting dust at Universal.

How will they bring back the Kong in civilized world ?

Don't think a boat big enough ever existed to transport such a beast.

This franchise makes no sense at all.

It's pretty clear that Kong won't be going to a city (2020 could change that, though).

Also, dinos are probably extinct thanks to the Skull Crawlers. The "no dinosaurs" rumor seems to have been validated with this trailer.

    "bring proof that monsters exist"

So what's the continuity of this with Godzilla?  Does this happen at the exact same time as Godzilla so everyone is surprised that big monsters exist in both?

Kong: Skull Island takes place in the 1970's. Monarch is involved in this film and will probably make things go "hush hush" after the film's events. The world didn't learn that monsters exist until the events of Godzilla. So the two are not really going to be connected until 2020.

  8. I actually want this to separate itself from Godzilla. After so many people pissed and moaned ("15 minutes," "he's barely in it"), I expected a different response. I'm up for an adventurous movie, anyway.

And for those who have been talking about Brie Larson not getting much dialogue: Tom Hiddleston himself hasn't been speaking much in these trailers either. I wouldn't mark her off as being just a pretty face yet.

    I'm ready for this.

I just hope, they don't make the same mistake they made with Godzilla....Kong needs more screen time and more action needs to happen during day time...

In the Entertainment Weekly interview, Jordan Vogt-Roberts said he wasn't a fan of the "hide the monster" trick. At least, not for 40+ minutes. While I don't expect more than 15 minutes of screen time for Kong (because let's face it--this almost never happens in a lot of films), I'm pretty sure a good deal of action will take place during the day.

Considering its still 2016, that tweet is beyond bullshit

Are you talking about the early cut or the "best movie of 2017" part? Or both?

Because Slash got to see Godzilla three months in advance, and it was an early cut as well. If you're talking about the latter, then....yeah. I would take that claim with a grain of salt.

Warner Bros has had a much better year compared to the last two years but I would say their midbudget films like Sully and The Accountant as well as the New Line films have been a factor along with the big tentpoles.

Precisely. They even had a few notable Summer releases that made bank (Me Before YouCentral IntelligenceThe Conjuring 2Lights Out). Aside from Tarzan which didn't completely crash, WB had great Summer numbers leading into the Fall season.

How fitting it is that for a franchise that has since the beginning been about selling toys for Bandai, that it gets its 2017 movie Megazord revealed in The Hollywood Reporter, in toy form.  I'm not sure that is a good sign for the movie however.

Lol, I'm going to Redbox this shit now. I'd rather pay $1.50 to see it than $7.50 after what I have seen so far.
