I imagine if it wasn't for Annabelle Creation, they'll have moved It up to August already. I think WB will keep It in September where it could potentially break the September record.

I'm thinking the same thing. 4+ million trailer views already and over 100k tweets. Definitely feels like a $50M opener, and could break $60M if the marketing stays strong.
$40m is pretty hard for a September release never mind $50-60m.

Bit of a stretch calling Chris Meledandri a visionary, I admit his strategy for making animated films for under $75m, using simple but appealing concepts and marketing the shit out of them have made Illumination a big player but he's nowhere near as good as Lasseter or anyone at Pixar and WDAS.

Almost forgot about RP1, very excited for it.
I imagine the first official trailer won't debut until Comic Con but I suspect they'll show early footage at Cinema Con.

Hoping for the following from WB:
- DCEU details
- WAG film information like SCOOB, Ninjago, Smallfoot along with more Lego details
- Monsterverse details
Ninjago and Smallfoot info seem likely, not sure on SCOOB as it's not for another 18 months. I can expect Ready Player One will get a sneak peek.

Woah! I had a few people tell me about the trailer today, and so yeah I had it pretty hyped up for me, but I was not disappointed! To to be honest, I'm loving the Stranger Things vibes, and I honestly think the popularity of that show is going to help this.
If quality delivers in a big way, dare I say 40M OW (or even the September record) is happening?

$30-35m OW is the floor IMO $40m+ would be great, I'm not sure if it will break the September record though, there hasn't been a $50m OW for a horror film since Paranormal Activity 3.

Yeah, I'm not worried about its box office. I'm just curious to see what its OW total would be.
I'm also expecting an opening in the range that you suggested.
Warner Bros are the kings of marketing, you can bet they'll be another trailer at Comic Con or with Annabelle 2 and a real push ad wise throughout August.

If the reviews are great and if it satisfies the fans of the books, I could see it pulling a Conjuring style run. The trailer is already trending on Twitter, and the reactions seem to be glowing.
Apart from Ninjago and Kingsman 2, there isn't much competition.

I want to believe that this could break September box office records. I'm not expecting it to top Hotel Transylvania's OW ($48.46 million), but I want to believe that it could theoretically top Insidious Chapter 2 ($40.27 million). Assuming that it tops the latter film, that would give it the highest grossing OW for a horror film in the month of September.
I'm just not sure if a Stephen King adaptation--even one with enormous nostalgia potential like It--would have that kind of pull. September is a shitty month for box office potential, and $40 million+ opening weekends are atypical.
$40m seems doable but I imagine WB/New Line would be thrilled with a $30-35m OW which would be a solid OW for September.

That's what I'm talking about! That is a terrific trailer and it looks way better the TV movie. I have no problem with them splitting it up because the novel incredibly detailed and very very long. It looks creepy as hell and it's taking them 30 years but that is what IT should be all about.
Warner Bros should move it up to take advantage of a lacklustre August but I think it'll thrive in September. $30m OW is the floor but I could see it doing as much as $40m if reviews are good.

No, I'll just rant about it being a two-parter.
Splitting into two parts make sense as the original novel's pretty long and the structure of the novel allows them to split it evenly with the kids in part 1 and adults in part 2.

Looks great. Are we going to hear the same whine as with the others ..."but it's a remake...."
It's not a remake, it's a new adaptation of the book.

It'll be interesting if The Dark Tower or It manage to outgross The Green Mile which is currently the highest grossing King movie at $136.8m. I think both will fall short but I could see It doing over $100m domestic if it's well received.

what is it rated? PG 13 right? I see more than that
R rated I believe,
-
WB/New Line Cinema has a good record with horror, It looks solid, I could easily see it doing over $30m OW.
-
Wreck it Ralph Breaks the Internet would have worked better.

P.S. that 30 million participation bonus to Rowling, Yates and David Heyman, make not much sense to me.
Rowling likely got a good chunk of change as writer and producer so it's no surprise she gets the most money, I wonder if it was $10m each or $20m for Rowling and $5m each for Yates and Heyman?

Maybe Billion Brick Race.
Is that still in development? I'm hoping it's Bone or an original idea.

Paramount wanted a Nicktoons movie themed like Avengers/Roger Rabbit, could be one of those dates.
I was referring to WAG for their 2019 film, I'm guessing Nicktoons film in late July 2020 could be that.
-
I'm surprised Fantastic Beasts were only slightly more profitable than SS, I guess Rowling, Yates and I guess Redmayne had a good percentage of bonuses and gross.
Pets, Zootopia and Rogue One must be top three with The Jungle Book at 4 or 5. I wonder where Bridget Jones's Baby came, I guess it missed the top twenty but that must have made a healthy profit.
-
Paramount using Nickelodeon as a way to make movies along with sequels and originals is similar to what WAG is doing with Lego and their animation library and IPs although WAG is doing original movies with Smallfoot although I'm curious what their other 2019 movie is.

The Loud House is arguably one of the most popular Nicktoons. I think for once Paramount may have the upper hand.
WB have an untitled event film for February 7th 2020 and August 7th so I guess the first one was planned for a WAG film, I guess they could an animated film in August or September
-
I bet if WAG announces a February 2020 film, The Loud House will move pretty swiftly.
I'll be curious if Scooby Doo remains in September 2018 against Goosebumps 2 or stay put.
