  1. We know this is going to Netflix everywhere but the US on January 31, but when does it stream for folks in the US? Asking because I'm wondering if this will completely die in theatres on that weekend and thereafter. It would be a shame given how well it's playing in theatres right now.

Still waiting patiently to see it.....

  2. So my mom went to go see this with a guy she's been seeing. I warned her ahead of time that, while I didn't want to spoil it for them, that the film was a universal flop with the critics. the audience. at the box office; everywhere. She said thanks but we're going to go ahead and see it.

Tells me today that she fell asleep on the guy. Said it was awful. My mom's the sweetest. most diplomatic person I know so I really feel bad for this movie that it got that treatment from her of all people.

I think the only May date they release in again is May 1. Expecting DS2, BP2, untitled MCU May 2023 to all become April. That’s how it’ll be OS for sure due to Labor Day, and after it worked so well twice it seems like there’s every reason to keep making the DOM releases day and date instead of having to wait a week. Especially for movies with big spoilers/importance to the rest of the MCU, which will be a lot of “May” releases since it’s the traditional slot for the biggest movie of the yearly slate.

Anyway, we’ll see in like a year.

Question for you: how big is International Workers' Day compared to other international holidays? Asking because it seems like it's a big priority for Marvel to always roll out their spring releases in time for this day. Is it a really big deal/a really lucrative day for overseas grosses? Something is ringing a bell that it's one of the biggest holidays in the world for some reason....

Funny that domestically Labor Day is a "no 1 currs" holiday and the weekend is always one of the slowest of the year haha.

Here's to shittiest prediction I have seen in long time.

    https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/12/30/2020-movies-box-office-predictions

    • 12 films over $250mn:hahaha:
    • Fast and Furious 9 $357mn
    • Dune $470mn plus
    • Uncharted $270mn plus but Onward under $127mn.
    • Soul at 11 below Raya and Last Dragon
    • Ghostbuster over $225mn

Lol! I know. They have zero clue about they're doing. Leave the box office to more qualified folks, IGN, and just do what you do.

Officially cut the cable cord today...even once my promos are over, I'll be saving $45/month over my last package...

Still have a home "triple play" with Cox Internet, Sling TV Orange plus Comedy package, and Ooma home phone...pain the the butt making it all happen, but it's done...and now I can move between tv I like at will (planning to pick up CBS all access next fall to catch up on spring shows and get NFL football for the season, as an example)...

I feel 10 years younger today...I managed to enter the decade 2 days before we leave it:)...

Nice move! Cable really isn't worth it. The only thing cable providers and networks are relying on now big time is sports. Without those, yikes.

In the Heights: Lin-Manuel Miranda had already graced his artistic excellence on Broadway and at Disney. But now, he’s here with the redeemed Jon Chu with the film adaptation of the show that got his name on the map. Lin’s name is still big, and the trailer promises plenty of amazing music and dancing that will excite a lot of people. In fact, exciting a lot of people. There already seems to be a huge amount of excitement going off the trailer, and this hype seems like something that could continue. The rest of the film honestly looks like an effective crowdpleaser too. And with this basically being the only major non-superhero release this summer that’s really targeting adult women, this should be another notch in both Lin and Chu’s film careers. And you know what, let's just say this is gonna have legs for days too. I'll be controversial I guess. 50/190 (3.8x)

Top Gun: Maverick: Admittedly, I don’t think it was the best idea to do a year-long marketing campaign for this, and this probably would have been a bigger deal a few years ago. But while there are a lot who are pessimistic on the film, I think this could surprise. Top Gun is still an iconic film that was a box office monster back in the day (adjusts to over 433M today), and I’d argue has a lot of nostalgia towards Gen Xers and boomers. And unlike, say, Terminator or Charlie’s Angels, this is the first time we’re seeing anything Top Gun related since the original film, so it’s not like the property is oversaturated or full of mediocre sequels or remakes. If the Cruise Missile really delivers on the flight scenes, even better.

In a way, the only real drawback is just coming out on the heels of Wonder Woman and Soul. I mean I’m being very optimistic towards both, especially Soul. But if you took out one of the two, I would be more confident in something like 180M, especially with how mediocre the first half of July looks (again, we’ll get to that tomorrow). But at this point, I'm sure Paramount will take anything. 45/140 (3.11x)

What a weekend this would be if you were close with your predicts!

    Soul 2nd weekend 50+

    In the Heights OW 50

    Top Gun Maverick OW 45

    Wonder Woman 4th weekend 20

I was talking more about the people who clearly weren't familiar with LW already, like when

      Reveal hidden contents

The movie sticks to the basics of LW, not entirely, the biggest deviation from the other versions is the way that the story is told. Anecdotally, I wonder if that aspect will work with younger people and/or the easily confused.  The 1994 version definitely appealed to middle schoolers and as a book had many fans that age. I overheard a couple of preteens as I left my screening, they liked some things but were unsure about others. Oh well, makes it harder for kids to use the movie to get by on tests/book reports, lol.

    Ah, gotcha. Thanks!

Not sure yet...I gotta book my Atom deal still...and I'm torn since my kids won't decide if they want this (or if they want Dolittle or some other January prebuy:)...

They are also deciding if they want more movies or bowling...since they have done 2 movies the last 2 weeks, they like variety, so I'm not sure yet if they want 3:)...

God, I haven't been bowling in so long. As much as I love movies that would actually be a tough choice for me.
