You wonder if Universal oversimplified the equation for success with this film (ie. RDJ = blockbuster!!).

Art shouldn’t be about analytics at all.
Unfortunately, Tele, when art is a business that's when the analytics come into play.

You're all overreacting. It's an incredibly basic automated analytics tool. Studios are just gonna replace this with market research and analytics tools that are becoming more and more outdated (and less efficient) today. It's not gonna make creative decisions for the studio. That's still gonna be done by humans. Nothing's gonna change for consumers here.
I love how everyone freaks out when they hear "AI" lol.
I guess you're right. I'd still feel better about people doing the market research and analyzing though.

Perfectly decent and enjoyable. Found it tricky to follow when it has plot reliance on characters with barely any screen time.
Even though the film is all exposition. (It's literally one person telling a story to another person for the whole run time).
But for the most part, funny and engaging. Hugh Grant is superb.
So basically this film is another example of one in which some of the stars basically have cameos (like, say, McConaughey in Wolf of Wall Street)?

January is the month of dumping season. Look at the marketing for Underwater.
I only know the movie is getting released, thanks to this sub. lol
Have you heard anything about the movie Run that's also supposedly coming out on this date?

Nada, it's being dumped. Imagine it's for a good reason too considering filming on this began around this time two years ago.
Yeah, this was supposed to come out last February, I believe. It's a dump.

The point is, it would be nice to know that actual human beings are behind as much in the industry as possible.

I meant, it's off the schedule completely, at least on BOM. The Numbers still has it opening limited.
Update: It's been moved to March 13, 2020 for a limited release.
So that's basically a full year's worth of delays. It was originally supposed to debut wide on March 15 last year I think it was.

Kinda mildly hope this actually makes a solid opening, but I just don't see it.
I feel like it could benefit from the other wide debut - Like a Boss - being so unappealing.
Then again, the wide expansion of 1917 is probably going to kill both. I'm kind of intrigued though. I may see it on Tuesday after the OW.

Problem I have it it looks too much like just a big screen version of a made for TV movie.
Yeah it doesn't really stand out in any way. Looks like whatever buzz there was for Jamie Foxx's performance died too. Like I said, though: WB won't mind, given all the accolades Joker is getting.

What kind of an opening are you anticipating for this, @dudalb?
-
Yeah, kind of an uninspiring choice, but oh well. Hopefully Hans and Co. having something up their sleeve. As others have noted, we're only 3 months away from release.
Has any film ever been delayed due to the music not being ready??

What at the fuck are you saying?
It's not an easy thing to bring baby to world.
Do you want a 13 year old girl raped by his uncle to give birth to baby?
Abortion is the right of women. Men shouldn't be allowed to interfere. It's their choice.
Whatever the circumstances, why would one allow a baby to get to almost full term and then abort it? I can see in a case like you described getting an abortion early on. That's why the issue isn't black and white for me and I'm not necessarily anti-abortion. I just can't get over women actually fighting for the ability to get an abortion at almost full term.
It is their right, which is why I'm not fighting against it or anything. I just don't like it and I have a right to my opinion.

So iran just sent rockets against a us army base.
Well um shit.
I've been reading more into it. It's "symbolic revenge". They wanted to display some show of force and save face. There were no casualties. I doubt anything escalates too much further.

I'm not anti abortion or anything, but there is something that doesn't feel right about a room full of Hollywood greats applauding someone who just admitted on stage that she aborted a pregnancy so she could win a golden globe.
Imagine if her parents had felt the same way.
It's disgusting. Not necessarily abortion but the whole attitude towards it, that it's all about women's rights and their empowerment. It's like sure, it is your right, but do you really realize what you're fighting for? Do you really WANT to be able to abort a baby when close to full term? It's disgusting.

They are underestimating 1917 for sure.
Yep. I've been on the $40M train for awhile now. It's going to be big.

Well, that theory just went up in smoke..literally.
Indeed. I'll take that one in the teeth and just hope it doesn't escalate too much from here.

Well, my parents saw this and both hated it. They had no idea why I liked this film. Then again, they don't like most movies I like and watch animal videos and America's Funniest Videos all the time. So, that should tell you everything right there.
What did they hate about it? Did they know generally what to expect going in?

$11,404,113 OW for The Grudge. With the toxic word of mouth it has. have to think it drops around 65% next weekend ($3.99M) and disappears pretty fast after that. Too bad.

Oh yeah, JM's reception is just fine. It's actually gone up a few points on RT from 79 to 82%. Box office wise, I'm thinking a wide opening between $7M and $9M.
