Could we really get a sub 50 drop in the second weekend?
I highly doubt that. Superhero/Marvel movies are by nature frontloaded because of the fan rush and the first few weekdays may also not be the best indicators for the 2nd weekend drop because of some spillover business. Looking at past Deadpool/Wolverine movies, a drop in the 60% range seems far more likely to me.
I know Deadpool and Wolverine is kind of its own beast in a way since its basivally a crossover movie between X-Men/Deadpool/MCU, but i dont think that aspect of it will prevent the typical superhero movie 2nd weekend drop.- 2

if Alien Romulus is Good i think we could see rated R blockbusters become a lot more common
My dream would obviously be a R-Rated Jurassic Park movie, i. e. a JP horror survival movie. We wont ever get it, but one can dream.

I mean it’s very likely it’ll pass The Lion King anyway. Maybe even surpass Jurassic World WW and most likely domestically. It wont.

Funny "Jurassic World" run is still so dominate 9 years later.
Thats because it was a true phenomenon.
I know many people here dislike the JW films, but the first Jurassic World was literally a bigger global phenomenon than the first Avengers. It was THE quintessential summer popcorn movie and people loved it.
And while both Fallen Kingdom and Dominion have decreased both in box office and in quality (though i personally love them despite all their flaws ofc), i think its still hugely impressive that the JW trilogy consists of consecutive billion-dollar grossing films. Like how many trilogys can claim that?
Thats why i truly think if the new movie next year is closer in quality/entertainment factor to the first JW than FK or Dominion, its poised for a HUGE run.- 1

Like I think both Jurassic World and Deadpool 3 are some of the worst movies to come out in the last few years, but I feel I can dog on Jurassic World all I want and say it's an affront to cinema with nobody caring
I care ...
SpoilerBut i mean critizising Jurassic World movies is totally fair (like any other franchise) as long as its not done in a way that insults people who actually enjoy watching them i think.

The opening in North America is great, but overseas should have been minimum 300M
Nah i think the OS results are really good. Deadpool is not only a Superhero or Marvel movie but also a R-Rated comedy, which is one of the hardest sells for OS audiences as humour is just culturally very different/especially subjective.

6 years ago i made a horror countdown here and had Shining at my No 1. It still is.
I consider The Shining to actually be a perfect movie. I cant think of a single thing wrong with it.- 1

I know its a meme coming from me, but Jurassic World 5 next year also has a non-zero chance at a 200M OW, completely depending on the movies premise, the trailers and ofc, if they can manage to recreat the pure fun energy of the first JW or not.
Though to be clear, atm i would predict more like a 140M OW for it, close to Dominion.

For me, if a movie is playing in a movie theater, its cinema.

Per Box Office stat firm EntTelligence, Deadpool & Wolverine clocked 13.6M admissions stateside. The last time a film reached 13M patrons in a 3 day stretch was July 2023 with Barbie at 13.1M. Only Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (13.8M) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (20M+) have had more post pandemic.
Interesting stats. I think what surpises me the most is that MoM had higher admission numbers than Deadpool and Wolverine. Its easy to forget because its reception was so mixed-negative, but MoM truly had Hype.

That's pretty much it from Comic Con 2024.
There are only 3 scheduled events for tomorrow as far as I know. And one of them is about some dinosaurs or something called Jurassic World Chaos Theory. But who cares about that!
Right @Brainbug?

All this talk of Inside Out 2 not passing Jurassic World is interesting considering that we haven’t even seen for sure that Inside Out 2 will be behind Jurassic World
@Brainbug, hold on before claiming victory lol, you could get your dreams crushed
Na, victory is mine. Inside Out 2's hope (Labor Day expansion) wont be enough. Mere emotions are not enough to defeat the dinos!

5-day opening, so you may be safe.
Or maybe it really blows up and you're not. Still not sure what the upper limit is for that one without seeing a trailer.
Didnt know about the 5 Day opening yet ... but even so, i fail to see a scenario where Shrek 5 doesnt get close to 700M DOM, unless its a bad movie ofc, then it may crumble relatively fast. But Shrek is just so ingrained in meme culture and is hugely nostalgic to everyone whos older than like 20, so it has immense potential.

I just want to lament the state of the two major box office websites.
BOM, they are slow to update and they ruined what used to be a wonderful and informative interface. and they make a lot of input errors.
The-Numbers updates in real time, but their layout was clunkier than the old BOM and now their pages take a long time to load (as far as I can tell on my end).
I miss old BOM so much. That was actually the site that got me interested in box office numbers in the first place back when Godzilla 2014 came out and i wanted to track its performance. The current BOM is like a rotting corpse in comparison and thats just so sad.

Doing my best. Ive had a number of failures (TFA, BP, IW, Endgame, NWH, Top Gun), but i think ive sacrificed enough goats, schnitzels and lemons at this point to secure that JW stays in the Top 10 DOM forever.
Only movie that is allowed to pass it ofc is Jurassic World 5 next year.- 1

I do think one driver for Deadpool & Wolverines success is that probably many Marvel Fans who felt that Phase 4/5 is disappointing and that theres just way too many Marvel movies/shows out now, just wanted to have the "good old" Marvel movie Fun back that movies like The Avengers (2012), GOTG or Thor Ragnarok oozed. I think people who thought that stuff like Eternals, The Marvels, She-Hulk etc was bad, waited for a movie like this.
Coupled with the fact that Deadpools prior two movies were received very well and Logan (2017) made sure that Hugh Jackmanns Wolverine is now more beloved than ever, it was kinda like a perfect storm.
