  1. Seems like the post-Thanksgiving weekend drops were softer than usual. The only film in the top 10 with a drop bigger than 50% was Justice League, while last year and the year before had 5-6 films with 50%+ drops
  2. Same thing happened to me the other day with Coco. To be fair though, most of my friends aren't animation nuts like I am, and I have had some people ask me about it after I watched it.
  3. WOW... $590M OS would make this the biggest Pixar original overseas, and that's with the exchange rates the way they are now. Imagine if exchange rates were more favourable for the box office... these numbers would have been even more insane.
  4. Just got back from this. It's not my favourite Pixar film (neither is Wall-E despite what my profile pic might suggest), but it's certainly up there with the best of them. Plot is familiar Pixar fare, but I don't mind as long as it's written well, which it is. And the music and visuals are amazing. As for the Olaf "short", I don't hate it with every fibre of my body, but it's pretty bad. It's ridiculously bland and overly long, and the transitions to the songs are not smooth at all. Also the aspect ratio bugged the hell out of me because of the ridiculous crop.
  5. I don't think it matters as much here as it did with Divergent - unlike Allegiant, this one was always intended as the last installment and isn't getting split into two.
  6. I know trailer views don't exactly correlate to box office, but I love how this already has more views than all of Coco's trailers combined.
  7. Some of those ads are a chore to watch sometimes. And a lot of them pop up everywhere. I GET IT CINEPLEX. I CAN USE SCENE POINTS TO GET FREE MOVIES. Hopefully this Christmas short is as good as the other two. I never got sick of Lily & the Snowman and A Balloon For Ben. Though I could do without the little popcorn clips that pop up right before a movie is about to start. Those rub me the wrong way...
  8. At my local theatre, Coco has half as many showings as JL, and also fewer showings than Thor and even Three Billboards. Plus, Coco's showings here are less expensive than JL's on average.
  9. Assuming this plays out like: • The Good Dinosaur (2.22x), $158M • Enchanted (2.61x), $185.5M • Tangled (2.92x), $208.1M • Moana (3.03x), $215.8M • A Bug's Life (3.56x), $253.4M • Frozen (4.28x), $304.9M I think this will leg out somewhere between Moana and A Bug's Life (3.3x), which gets it to a run of $234.6M. I'd still remove the Frozen "short" ASAP if I were Disney. Coco can survive on its own with excellent WoM and the Frozen brand really doesn't need to be hurt like this.
  10. I've only shed two tears watching Pixar films - once while watching the end of FD, the other during a rewatch of Up (for the record, it wasn't from the first 10 minutes, it was much later in the movie). Lady Bird completely destroyed me last week. I'm gonna make sure to bring a tissue for this one if its as tear-inducing as everyone says it is.
  11. Planning on watching it next weekend. There's a big part of me that is very curious to see the Olaf short to see the hubbub about how bad it apparently is. Sadly, showing up to the theatre late isn't much of an option for me. I go early to the theatre by nature because a - showing up to the theatre less than 15 minutes early almost guarantees that I don't get a good seat, and b - I need to rack up more points from pre-show games so I can get more "free" movies.
  12. I guess, the 2nd movie and the series take place before the 2012 short.
  13. Tangled: Before Ever After, if you want to count that, which also led into the TV series for Tangled, where Rapunzel has all of her hair again.
  14. Probably won't happen. Toy Story 4 is supposed to be last sequel from Pixar for quite some time, but I'll believe it when I see what their 2020 films are. The Zootopia directors have their hands full with other projects right now (Rich Moore has Wreck-It Ralph 2, Byron Howard is co-directing something with Lin-Manuel Miranda), and apparently the 2020 WDAS film is being directed by Paul Briggs (someone asked him on Twitter), so it's probably an original. Edit: And Tangled 2 is technically already made.
  15. The Olaf "short" seems to be a limited time only thing, I'd imagine it'll be removed sooner rather than later if word of mouth for the short is SUPER toxic (Mexican theaters removed it after the first week). Coco itself seems to be getting overwhelmingly positive reception, so for the time being it'll most likely be a "come to the theater late" type of thing.
  16. Moana was the first Disney Princess film after Frozen, so there was already more pre-built hype on top of WDAS's consistent quality year after year since 2009. Coco, on the other hand, was the first Pixar film to get the Thanksgiving date since The Good Dinosaur, and was hot on the heels of Cars 3 from just a few months ago, so I think people were expecting numbers closer to those films than say, Moana. Plus, Moana was tracking about $20M higher than Coco was. I do agree that Wonder's success is more surprising. I didn't expect it to finish at more than $30M DOM yet it's already gonna be near $80M by the end of the weekend.
  17. MT 1) Coco - 26.7% 2) JL - 18.3% 3) Wonder - 14.1% 4) Thor 3 - 8.4% 5) MotOE - 7.3%
  18. Boyhood got its first rotten at 110. I know for a fact though that it has 100 on Metacritic though.
  19. 1) Up 2) Inside Out 3) Wall-E 4) Toy Story 5) Ratatouille 6) Finding Nemo 7) Toy Story 3 8) Finding Dory 9) Cars 10) Cars 3 11) Brave 12) The Good Dinosaur 13) Cars 2 As for the other 6, I haven't watched them in full yet.
