  1. There were eleven of us in the theater at the twilight show and we all stayed in our seats as the credits began. the ending (and I won't spoil it) was more than I expected from this seemingly B-movie. The effects were good, the screenplay, good. The acting was okay. Most were fine, but the lead had a few moments where I thought of the low budget Youtube 5-minute episodes that I watched earlier that day. Still, the action sequences were unique and edge of your seat. We know from the start that we are set in the 'near future' and life looks nice if you are on the right side. A statement about economics, drones, being off grid, etc can be found as I absorbed this world and accepted things like anyone should to enjoy a scifi action film. If bad acting makes it hard for you to suspend disbelief, then the ending might not be enough to make this film end in the green. For me it was a solid hit that I hope to enjoy again when it comes to other services.
  2. if this preview came out a few weeks sooner and had more exposure, the film would have made oodles more cash.
  3. I liked the film and now see this a a first in a series of stories. Han with Jabba looks to be next. The film is apparently set in the time before Darth Maul is killed. having him is nice, and there is a limited range that this new story arc can exist in. Still another adventure would be nice. I thought the glow weapon used by the villain was a bad move. This story doesn't need a force-influenced character or a reminder of that world. That was distracting and unexplained. The coarse the female will take in that tall ship she commandeered is a mystery. I do not think that Han will get the girl, and his adopted name solo will have new meaning. getting to know the birth of the resistance and that whole development was uninteresting and under developed. A twist was fine, and we got plenty of that (too much) during the showdown battles between central characters. That whole ending was rushed and unsatisfying. Yes Han shoots first, and yes they had a tough upbringing. We did not really see the lowlife underworld that Han can thrive in, just the one line on people that came and went with this mission. It was a great space epic tale and I found the effects and the style fresh.
  4. I saw it and liked it. I felt betrayed that so many websites were asking what Domeno's power is, and once I see the film I thought of that like a spoiler, and not so much a question. No one flagged that, and it ruined a piece of the film for me. Seeing the demise of his team was an unexpected treat. The scene in the tree shredder with acid will stick with me for a while. Unfortunately so will the baby Deadpool genitalia that flashed on the screen. Those jokes were off color. Cable came too quickly to be a nice guy, even putting up with DPs jokes. tolerating being called a racist etc... It was too convenient. This Is (conveniently) a family film, and I hope DP will go after hitler in the next film. Steel a plot line out of the Misfits maybe. The battle against that big Ram dude in the end was too quick, and we barely got to see the teen lady's powers. That needed more. I liked the credit scenes, and the R rated soundtrack (the first ever?) was there for us when there was no scene at the Very very end.
  5. First off, the film broke (during trailers) and I got back in line for an exchange, waited for 90 min, then got free refils, and sat through the same F.. trailers again, so I wasn't in a good mood. Overall I liked it, but boy was I tearing it apart being it didn't succeed in lifting my spirits that rainy afternoon. here goes: We begin with Asgrard survivors and I had to remember where the last film from a year ago ended. It seems the idea of going to Ireland is over since no one apparently survived that. Great lead in for the GOTG, meeting Thor but otherwise a boring start. Hulk and Dr Strange get more time in this film, and that is Banner not Hulk getting the time. Did fans want more of them? are they the ones with lengthy contracts? (I went in with deathspectations) Then it occurred to me, how long will it be before the gang gets together? They never do. The previews with a climactic battle only has one group of them. Others are elsewhere and Rocket Groot, and Thor are elsewhere. "the only weapon powerful enough to defeat him" Only a god can absorb the power of a sun to power the reactor to build the weapon, now with a tree stump handle. That whole theme is necessary in any scifi battle movie. I liked that hulk thanos battle, and hulk being a turtle safe in his shell (safe metaphore) has to be resolved in the sequel just like Thanos needs to learn to be loving and bring back Gamora and use the time stone to resurrect humanity in all it's contractual glory. Maybe even (with Strange powers added) introduce a new younger iron man, etc.. Anything can be reset so none of it matters anyway. How many died in Marvel universe before? I liked the comic interactions, and some of the new pairings' drama. The 'dad's" comic debate was LMAO. I never even noticed that Hawkeye and Antman (and Waspgirl) were absent. Too busy. The ending credit scene did two things for me. I got the tease of Captain Marvel and (since I know that Sam Jackson CAN'T die), I got the safe knowledge that things will be reset. Perhaps she will fly around the world really fast backwards.
  6. I remember a lot of people went to see Three Musketeers and Sister Act 2 Just for the preview for the lion king. It surprised me that things like this could actually happen.
  7. this film gave us some great characters, really getting us inside their minds and gave us an apparently honest detail of a dark chapter in our history. it was moving and engaging with great acting.
  8. I went in with high hopes, and the film did deliver exactly what I expected. some of those sequences require a big screen to sizzle the viewers. The story with a key searching mystery was where things fell short. Keep in mind I liked this film. I'm just being critical. we only have a few people searching We only know of these archives after most people stopped looking there, but we never really see any one else doing any competitive looking. Just the love interest and the evil corp. The climatic game, which involved a secret ball in a secret room was not nostalgic to me at all. It was plot convenient to have that, and for that matter finding keys and knowing quotes and history make the whole search uninviting to Atari-familiar nostalgia seeking viewers. that left me with a few cool graphics when they are in the zone/matrix/world. and the climax had him standing with a console in the boring arctic world going room to room. the ending had to be better than the race scene or the dance scene or the shining scene (unexpected, not in previews, Bravo). it ended flat. a little time getting to know the interface tech and how to upgrade, connect, block others, etc would make things more involving and complete. some knowledge of the economics of the time, which lead people to this world would be nice, as this one corporation is trying to keep control, perhaps other corps caused the trailer park industry to house the population of consumers. Some message about how the world will change along with the game would make this epic in scope. Not being epic enough is the start of my biggest concern, It felt a bit like it was rushed to make the date the film marked 2 years ago as tent pole films mark territory in advance. now they tend to disappoint when the timing doesn't work. still a great film that I enjoyed.
  9. I liked this film, and it reminded me a bit of Hangover and Mystery Date. I got in touch with this group of misfits, and the story was full of surprises. There was one more twist at the end and then another, which might have been overkill to a degree but it ended up adding to the film's complexity. I would end it with their kids becoming competitive.
  10. I saw this and enjoyed it. I wish it were more diehard in the vault rather than throughout the streets with crappy shooting. I doubt you can walk on trucks and overtake them in any reality. And then the film just ended. it was Weak, but enjoyable none the less.
  11. I just saw 1945, a foreign film at an art house here in FL. It was fantastic, and worthy of review and a wider audience. If you have it in another section, please tell me.
  12. I liked this film. It was a big risk that appears to be well received by fans. We have an introduction to a fictitious and stereotypical African nation that has our super hero having his powers removed for some fight scenes just man vs man. the use of him in our world with super powers is second fiddle to everything going on under the radar. I agree with a blurb in Entertainment Weekly about how the themes in this film hit home where Black Lives Mater. This film opens the floodgates on some discussion that could expand as Infinity War opens. (we see in the previews that all of Wikandia joins in the fight against Thanos). Even the decision to share the tech and metal with the world may matter as the world needs to come together to defeat Thanos. The ending credit scene with Bucky apparently cured is also a neat peak ahead at the next chapter. I think the world coming together heroes and villians alike to defeat threats from beyond will be forthcoming and this film sets that up making B Panther a central figure in the next phase. As you can see, I enjoyed this both as a stand alone risk and a peak into the whole MCU.
  13. this was a great film to watch. I think it could make twice as much released in early May, but that is trivial. As a remake this works since we capture the best parts of the original without being a copy or a repeat. It also stands alone as a film not requiring you to know anything from the original. Jumanji did have a sequal and a Galaxy Quest-esque reboot is possible there. Zathura would sell in this format. We do get some nice laughs and the characters resolve their disputes conveniently. The breakfast Club did that drama better than this film, which also lacks a bit in the SPX dept. The animals looked fake and the whole subplot of the villain and his abilities is dropped. Still, this was an enjoyable day out at the theater.
  14. I loved Pan's Labyrinth and even the first Hellboy was a good counterpunch to the DC VS Marvel movies. I heard good things about this, and went in with high expectations, and I left disappointed. The same thing happened with Justice League 1 which improved after a second viewing when I was less critical but the same won't happen here. The visuals are stunning, the lab has an abundance of custodians which told me to suspend disbelief beyond the whole creature part of the story. Great setting and characters so far. The lead female, has a nude scene before we even get to know her name, she is kind to a neighbor, and she is surviving in a cruel world. Nice character and she plays it well. Michael Shennon's character is better acted and thus more interesting. the cast is fine, but he is the only one who might get a nom from oscar. I knew the premise, so finding a way to manage an escape, with the flawed to be willing coworkers, was by the numbers. For an artsy movie, they slow played that quite well. It wasn't until the first sex scene (thankfully offscreen) that I couldn't take the film seriously. Could a towel under the door crack allow an old building's bathroom to be filled shoulder high with contained water. Would they not be discovered from this or sooner? Once I can't take the film seriously a whole chain of dreck emerges, and it detracts from the art. I also needed to see M Shannon's character interact with his kids more and his wife, well less. It was gratuitous and un needed, while being a good dad would make me feel bad for this guy. Smashing his car belonged in a hangover kind of movie, and was karma but out of place in this hoping for prestige award. a C score was generous, but it was Christmas. We found 3 other films sold out, but there were plenty of seats in this over expanded film.
  15. http://www.imdb.com/videoplayer/vi705668633?ref_=ttvi_vi_imdb_12 this one generated quite a buzz. the film had it's faults but it's reception was boosted by this one, telling us how different things are as a reboot.
