It’s graphic. And deeply, deeply upsetting. I cried about 70% of the movie. I spent the first like hour of the movie just really angry and tense. My mom actually turned to me halfway through the movie and said: I don’t like this. And I said I don’t like it either. I don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone that likes animals. I actually don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone with small children. And before you go on about how like everyone is so weak and sensitive nowadays with their content, nope. Not animals, man. I’ll watch humans suffer all day long, but if a hair is harmed on that dog, I’m gonna lose it. I went home and immediately hugged my dog. The movie ultimately is good, yet If the animal torture is going to upset you, I would wait to Disney+ where you can fast forward through it.

I mostly agree with this, (second film not again well withstanding). I think it getting canceled, then not canceled, then delayed, did a lot of damage to the hype and excitement. Feels similar to Black Widow. That film in 2020 directly post Endgame would’ve hit so much different than whenever the hell is was released later when it just felt like a non-event. This kind of had the non-event end of the road feel to it. I would also add in that COVID and Disney+ eroded a lot of the audience. And they’re not doing anything to really retrain people to go back to the movies. I also wouldn’t underestimate the marketing of this is the end of the Guardians and any one of them could die vibes. There are some fans that probably have no interest in watching that, or would want to watch that in a very controlled environment of their home.

My friend canceled on me cause she got some spoilers for “content warning” and said she didn’t want to see it. She wasn’t kidding. Half way through the movie, my Mom lended over and “I don’t like this.” I responded, “I hate it.” I am trying to balance my “I went to film school” mind that acknowledges there were some really nice character moments and pay offs here, with my emotional “fuck this film; I have not hated an MCU so much since AOU, I am upset, and exhausted, and unamused, I want to leave and hug my dog” self. But my thirteen year old nephew liked it. So yay for that.

He can suffer through it. Like a true friend.

I am flying back to LA In November to see it with my friend (and force @Plain Old Tele to come with).

I just popped in to say that Cap is the best trilogy.

So no Guardians for me until Saturday. we got to the theater, and printed the tickets. And they said it 3-D IMAX. And my friend and I both went wait. No. That was nowhere on the tickets or the website when I purchased them that is completely unacceptable. And after about 10 minutes, we finally were able to get tickets for Saturday in 2D!

WGA/SAGAFTRA Strike Discussion Thread | SAG Ratifies Contract
Cap replied to Eric Quinn's topic in The Speakeasy
It’s a long time when you’re a writer with zero income coming in and bills to pay. I actively remember the 2007 strike. The first month everyone was on the same page, the second months there was a bunch of rumblings, and the third month they caved. I agree that from an objective POV, waiting it out to June makes the most sense. But who knows if all 9000 members also think that. -
WGA/SAGAFTRA Strike Discussion Thread | SAG Ratifies Contract
Cap replied to Eric Quinn's topic in The Speakeasy
The real deadline for this is June 30, when the DGA and SAG-AFTRA’s contracts are up. The true collective power to get what they want comes when all the Guilds go out at the same time. But who knows if the WGA can, or wants, to stay out that long. -

John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Cap replied to Eric Quinn's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
This reminded me a lot of like a really dense and delicious chocolate cake. First bite, amazing. Second bite, delicious. Third bite, it’s too much and I am gonna be sick. Too slow to start, and got too excessive at the end. The whole CGI nonsense with the cars in front of The Arc De Triomph could’ve been cut. Considering how GORGEOUS the previous hours worth of cinematography and fight choreography had been, this just felt like some out of place CGI/green screen whackfest. I also need this cinematographer to direct a musical ASAP. The long fluid takes of full body wide shots has me ASCENDING. 🥰🥰🥰 MVP was Donnie Yen. So magnetic and his movements are so fluid. Every movie should have Clancy Brown. Solid B+ -
Giiiirl. First off, unless it’s a baby or a Skippee doll, I’m not giving a Barbie to a five-year-old. There’s too many choking hazard pieces. Second off, every little girl for the past 60 years has played with a Barbie. And if they didn’t play with the Barbie, they played off of the knock off version of a Barbie, and they still called it a Barbie. The brand recognition on this is super high. Third, have you ever met the adult toy Collector market? The idea that Barbie only appeals to children is lol. like come to Comic Con and see the Mattel booth on preview night. Madness. And there’s not five year olds there. and now I’m gonna go back to playing with my virtual dolls
