  1. MODERATION: With the news of WB and Disney pulling their international releases in Russia, we are temporarily going to lock this thread. We don't want this to turn into a breeding ground for off-topic heated discussions. The Mods will post box office updates as they come in. Until then, you can visit the Politics Sub Forum if you wish to talk about global politics.

  9. #54 16 POINTS, 2 LISTS, Av PTS 8, HR 1 Rey / Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Last Jedi Prompt: Kylo and Rey making crafts. When tabulating this list, I really found that the Top 69 lived and died by the God Warriors. The folks that power ranked their OTPs because, god damn it, they're GETTING on that list. None might be more evident than our #54, which thanks receiving a #1 Ranking, hyperdrove its way into the Top. AO3 TAG

  15. Nope. NOPE. We are not remotely doing this. 1. It is not insane that comic books are the biggest source of theatrical entertainment now. Adapted materials for movies have existed since the dawn of movies. If this was the 1920s, you’d probably be saying I can’t believe that Coward plays Are the only source of theatrical entertainment. Remember that 30 year period Where everything was a Western? Hollywood finally has the technology to adopt comic books, so that’s where were at. In the stories and adaptations just keep coming because there are literally thousands of stories and characters between DC, Marvel, and the indie comics that they can mine for source material. Next point. 2. Maybe if my life centers around these movies, and I would argue that my life probably does center around these movies, I’m in no rush to watch a three hour Batman movie on a Thursday night. And as exciting and as beautiful as the footage looks, it’s still a Batman movie. He dresses up in a bad suit, he goes and he fights crime, and his parents are still going to be dead. This has been the same for 40 years. This is not Batman fatigue. This is Batman pigeonholing itself. The best example that I can think of, and I’m sorry for pulling Star Wars into this, is that get the eff off Tatooine. There are other planets. There are other stories. If they came out of the gate and said this Batman has Dick Grayson as Robin, that be a different story. If they came out of the gate and said we’re going to make Bruce Wayne old, and we’re going to do Terry McGinnis, that would be a different story. 3. This literally has nothing to do with Disney. This has nothing to do with the MCU. There have been financially successful Warner Bros./DC films during the MCU raise. They coexist. And they will continue to coexist. The only reason they would not coexist, is if one team imploded. And there’s no indication that that’s going to happen anytime soon. So, please do not come in here with your concerned trolling. And if you want to pull that, you can go over to the Batman thread. This thread is for numbers and data.
  16. Remember folks: 1950: Sunset Blvd 1952: Singin’ in The Rain 2014: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  17. Totally anecdotal, but my Thursday night movie crew that we do the MCU movies with all said they had no interest in seeing this on Thursday night. They said that they get to it sometime during the weekend or the week. And they’re all the prime demo of the single, male, comic book fan. And they are not one or the other fans. We do all of them. For Tracking, I just eye balled my IMAX up here. It’s about 40% full for Thursday
  18. I just really like JLo and liked watching JLo. No more, no less.
  19. SOOOOOOOO... To paraphrase an Elite Wrestler, "Who's ready for Storytime with Cap Bay-Bay." I was preparing for the next batch of posts when I noticed that something about wrong with the upcoming entry. It said it was on TWO lists, but when I searched for the two lists (because I was looking for a Tie Breaker Rank to see the order to post them), I only came up with one. I did what any smart person would do in this scenario. I ran to @Jason, Mr. Captain Spreadsheets himself, and asked him if he could run a quick formula to make sure everything was on the Up and Up. No joke. No joke. Jason and I were literally on the phone for like an hour, but we figured it out. It only took him having to write a formula, for the formula to not work because ALL of the data entries were different (the / v & v AND was a nightmare). Then I had to reformat EVERY entry by hand to make sure all the movies and couples lined up EXACTLY. And then he ran his formula again, and... there were still issues due to different data entries. So I got off the phone with him, and I recounted the ENTIRE list manually. To go BACK on the phone with him, for him to run his formula again, for... there to still be data point difference. Cause apparently we can't spell Philadelphia! And the formula REALLY didn't like the multiple George and Marys or Marian and Robins. Freaked right out at that! Two hours later, we're confident the entire list is now accurate. So, wait! What the list NOT accurate!??!?! Turns out -- We spent all day staring at a spread sheet to find out that... the list was like 97% accurate. There was ONLY ONE ship that was ranked in 69 and higher that fell out of range. That was Jo and Laurie from Little Women (2019). I originally counted that as THREE lists. Well, turns out, SOMEONE likes Amy and Laurie better. It was only Jo and Laurie with TWO lists, and Amy and Laurie with ONE. Another case of shipping wars splitting the movie total. I will go back tomorrow and edit that into original #70 post, which is where Jo and Laurie landed. I will reveal what list SHOULD have made the Top 69, but didn't when we get to its REAL position on the Countdown. (And TBH, it's an absolute laugh riot.) When the whole list is completed, I will share the Google Document for you can see both lists, and you can see all of the work. Trying to be as transparent as possible here. Jason also suggested if we do this again, esp for the TV Ship List, that we move everything to a Google Form. 🤪 Meanwhile, I am done staring at spreadsheets for the evening. Time for to take the sleep meds and watch Drag Race. We're going to pick back up everything tomorrow! AND I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! THANK YOU TO JASON. VOTE FOR HIM IN THE BOFFYS FOR THE MVP!!
  20. Dune getting like 15 nominations and Eternals getting zero is my villain origin story. But on the other hand it didn't get Worse Picture, so that's a win. No Bob Chapek for "Best Villain" feels like a snub, not gonna lie. And thanks for thinking I'm funny and useful, y'all. As the Best Aunt May say:
  21. Basically! It was even ABO! Y'all insane. That'd be a bloodbath. (We can discuss it though!! Maybe November Premieres!) And no reveals tonight. Been sick all day and am just gonna call it a day.
  22. Oh my god this does sound so much better. Thank you for telling me this. Because I feel better that I wasn’t the only person going there’s _no way in hell_
  23. they are # 71 and #70 I’m not on my desktop, but when I get back there I’ll re-added this post with the chart. And then obviously at the end of the countdown I will put the full charge together with every movie rightI’m not on my desktop, but when I get back there I’ll re-added this post with the chart. And then obviously at the end of the countdown I will put the full charge together with every movie ranked!
  24. #60 14 POINTS, 5 LISTS, Av PTS 2.8 Emily Gordon / Kumail Nanjiani from The Big Sick Prompt: Emily gets the hiccups, causing Kumail to laugh every time they try to talk until Kumail gets the hiccups too. A true life happy ending gets the Hollywood treatment in this adorkable dramedy that reminds us that Kumail needs to be cast in EVERYTHING. Every. Thing. AO3: No Link cause technically this is RPF. And that's it for the evening! My game plan is to get 10-15 up a day for the rest of the week, so hopefully we can get this wrapped by before the BOFFYS and 2021's Top 25!
