  1. My theaters aren’t doing private showings up here. I called about one for a Christmas present, and they said that was just a Covid special. They weren’t gonna do them for the foreseeable future
  2. I am no longing accepting previews, so I suspect they just voided it cause they don’t count.
  3. I am not tracking them post pandemic, but when I get home tonight I’ll pull up my old data I have. I found they weren’t necessarily the best to track Because Lincoln Square tended to always over perform since it is the premium theater in the city. I was actually trying to figure out a way to do an adjustment scale, but then Covid happened
  4. I reference Pika Pika specifically as “something that has good trailer viewers, had massive massive hype, and then none it translated into box office sales.” As I said; I don’t deny the pre-sales have been massive. That’s not what I am saying at all. What I basically implied is I don’t know how much more growth we’ll see. It’s very possible that it’s burned though 50-60% of its demand already. Yes. Which is part of the point I was making: you will need that demo to come out on OW for a truly massive (215+) , and I don’t think they will. Same. I would not be shocked at like 50 Th 50 Fr 40 Sa 30 Sun tbh. Off the Internet, Non-fandom people know that I am fandom person; so people always talk to me about movies and comics. The folks talking to me about Spiderman know the movie is coming out, havent talked to me about T&A at all, and all said that they are going to “wait to see it after it’s less crowded” cause of their COVID concerns. My aunt won’t go to the movies on the weekends anymore. 🤷‍♀️ And it’s second weekend has Christmas Eve on Friday/Christmas Saturday will is brutal. The good thing is that it should have January almost all to itself. So those people who don’t care about spoilers, and want to avoid the crowds, definitely have time to go see it.
  5. I am not hyped for this at all, but I won’t lie. I watched this interview like five times last night. 😍 like, oh shit, maybe I am gonna lose my shit after all?! 🤔 I was gonna keep this to myself, but your post is kind of a perfect segue. I legit sent this to @Porthos last night: So my issues with the Spiderman data, are unfortunately not really scientific. And therefore really aren’t worth posting it because they’re just gonna get dismissed as not Analytical, but more empirical. But privately I have a lot of thoughts. First and foremost, I have no doubt this baby is going to be huge. It probably will make 200 million. I personally felt like 160-180 was always the goal, but I could see it doing something with the 2xx before it. That said: I’m having a weird Detective Pokémon flashbacks. I feel like we are insulated in the perfect environment where the user base here is heavily in favor of NWH, and heavily in favor of watching it in a movie theater. You see that by their immediate correlation that breaking the all-time record and trailer views in the first 24 hours is going to automatically translate into some Endgame level financial success. Obviously, I am very skeptical. Insert blah blah blah staffing shortage, blah blah blah Covid variant, blah blah blah lack of repeating shows, blah blah blah all the talking points you and I have discussed ad nauseam. But what Bestie and I have been coming back to of late is: I don’t think the female fandom is going to show up. I don’t think we’re gonna get the big number the boys want. If I have learned anything in the past four years that I’ve been here, it’s that the habits of a fanboy and a fangirl in terms of how they consume their media is incredibly different. I think it boils down to the concept of spoilers. I have found that men are far more spoiler concerned. Most of the discussions are based on speculations. This is my new theory on how it’s all connected. I need to see it immediately or else I will be spoilers. That is why we’re are seeing increase in the male demos on opening weekends. They are frontloading the whole thing. Contrast this with fangirls that who literally have something called a “mistake” spoiler, Which is I want to know the entire plot of the movie, to make sure that it syncs up with exactly my worldview, otherwise I don’t want to go see it. (This legit happened with Eternals. It got so fucked with the tumblr crowd early on cause of the out of context Hiroshima spoiler that got out). Fangirls consume a significant amount of a fan art, fanfiction, and gifs sets. This is going to sound crazy, but I cannot tell you the amount of times I have run into people who have not seen something like Endgame, because it’s too upsetting that Tony Stark dies, yet they write Tony Stark fan fiction and they’re really active on Twitter. Still to this day! All of those girls might be watching the trailer multiple times to see their fave fetus twink, But that doesn’t translate into tickets sold. No different than everyone watch Detective Pokémon trailer because the cute Pokes, but they didn’t go see the movie. The other thing is girl fandom has other MCU properties to distract them while they wait for either the crowds to die down, or they just wait to watch it on Disney+. Eternals is dropping very soon. Hawkeye just will be just finishing up. They have fight 120674970210 over Wanda to entertain them. They haven’t really been coming out all year, and I don’t see any reason they’re going to start now. And Porthos pointed out that a lot of the younger female fans are SUPER into the Zendaya and Tom ship. That translate them into obsessively following the press tour only to not show up opening weekend.
  6. OLOLOLOLLL I was looking for that gif and couldn’t find it!!!
  7. The demographics for larger cities are going to be bread and butter to this movie. I believe that’s what he saying.
  8. Happy Endings is just fifteen minutes of Holy shit this woman looks and sounds exactly like her mother.
  9. My entire game is moot at this point because I did all of my predictions off of the assumption that everything was going to move because we were going to have a month-long industry strike. C’est la vie.
  10. oh no it’s only going to make 199M. What are we all going to do?!
  11. (Deletes my fury of crumbling memes I had cued up)
  12. I open up my app from where I want to watch the movie, I put it in full screen. I make sure that my phone is in landscape. And then I put it up against my desktop monitor and watch it for background noise while I play the Sims. It’s a pretty effective little system I have. And I use it all the time
  13. Okay, I actually rebuilt my spreadsheet. Finally. I guess I'm really back at this. SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME REGAL FOX RUN Total Available Sold Percent Showings REGAL TOTAL 992 636 64.11% 8 FLAGSHIP Total Available Sold Percent Showings FLAGSHIP TOTAL 552 254 46.01% 6 APPLE CINEMAS Total Available Sold Percent Showings CT - Barkhamsted 539 89 16.51% 5 CT - Lux Dine Hartford 532 52 9.77% 5 CT - Simsbury 806 175 21.71% 7 CT - Torrington 367 73 19.89% 5 CT - Waterbury 536 214 39.92% 6 CT - Xtreme Hartford 1023 127 12.41% 8 ME - Cinemagic 1016 476 46.85% 8 ME - Westbrook 2141 175 8.17% 7 MA - Cambridge 621 309 49.75% 6 NH - Hooksett IMAX 837 474 56.63% 7 NH - Merrimack 1098 193 17.58% 5 APPLE TOTAL 9516 2357 24.77% 69 REGION TOTAL 11,060 3247 29.35% 83 SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME v Final Sales Comps Regal - Fox Run Mall Widow 19.25 Shang Chi 13.82 No Time To Die 22.9 Dune 15.59 Eternals 20.41 Falmouth Flagship Widow 13.3 Shang Chi 14.51 No Time To Die 14.16 Dune 12 Eternals N/A CINEMAGIC Endgame - First Day 25.1 Endgame - Last Day 13.51 TROS - First Day 22.93 General Notes: Comps are mostly there "For The LOLZ" since I don't have complete data. The big take aways for me are; Spider-Man: No Way Home has sold as many tickets at Flagship in a week as Black Widow did in its ENTIRE run of pre-sales. Apple Westbrook sold 79 tickets since Monday, which is comparatively excellent for them, but Apple Cinemagic only added 47. IMAX is gone (only first row and handicap left). Most of the prize seats are gone for 2D shows. 3PM is definitely not anyone's first choice; it's lacking behind even the 10PMs across the board. We're still no where near Endgame (662 first day tix sold behind ) up here, or even The Rise of Skywalker (354 first day tix behind). Apple Cinemas definitely made the right choice snagging the ME and NH theaters from the previous owners, because they're the best producers of the bunch (other than Cambridge).
