  1. You're being really optimistic lol. WOM isn't going to save a film that opened so low.
  2. That explains the really high cinemascore. If there were more families in the film, I feel like the cinemascore would have been lower. It's definitely a film made for older audiences. Not sure how that translates to legs.
  3. Saturday looks really high. Chance Saturday makes 200 million yuan?
  4. The problem with Spider-verse is that the target audience for it is much older than the usual animated film. Families likely won't watch it (I don't see kids being interested in this movie or even finding it funny) and many adults wouldn't want to watch animated films because animation = for kids (although there are some exceptions like the Pixar sequels which appeal a lot to an older audience because of nostalgia). It's the same reason why adult animation is dead (outside of TV) and masterpieces like Anomalisa couldn't even make 10 million WW. This is also why it's doing worse than even The Lego Batman in many overseas markets. That film was more family/kids-oriented.
  5. No, its definitely going over JL. 30 mil is probably happening. Christmas legs are a thing in the UK too. I think even if Mary Poppins plays out like The Last Jedi, Aquaman could end up playing Jumanji here.
  6. Umm, they are both biracial and both movies were pretty unclear about their ethnicity. Only the comic relief characters can be clearly identified as African American.
  7. No too sure about China. The jokes for Spiderverse was very dialogue-y and the Chinese are super racist (which is why Black Panther flopped after opening weekend) so having a black lead character isn't going to help. Also,Spiderverse dropped from 2nd to 4th place from Wednesday to Thursday in the UK. It's all up to America now. When the hell are Thursday preview numbers coming out?
  8. Spiderverse opened lower that Mortal Engines in Germany... An opening of 85k.
  9. Holidays don't really affect international by much. Usually a small boost. The biggest boost is always domestic. I'm guessing a 70/30 domestic-overseas split by the end of the run.
  10. 5213 in pre sales (releasing today. For comparison, Aquaman already has 25,000 presales and is releasing next week.
  11. Does anyone have overseas numbers for Spiderman? I heard they are underwhelming. I can only find the Russian OD and South Korean presales.
  12. How is Black Panther a good comp? It didn't even release during the fall and it isn't animated either. If we were going with February movies, The Lego Batman would be a better comp because it is animated and also a superhero movie. Let me guess, you think BP is good comp because both have a black character as the main character?
  13. Does that mean 90 mil is possible for Friday? Monday could have made 90m if it weren't for the night (and that is probably because it was a weekday the next day) but the day after Friday is a weekend so the nights should be better.
  14. I mean beating the second highest grossing superhero film in China isn't an easy task.
  15. https://variety.com/2018/digital/news/bumblebee-again-tops-studios-tv-ad-spending-1203086007/ What type of ads were made with that money?
  16. Is it worth watching it just for the animated section? That is pretty much the biggest reason I want to watch the film. How long is it also?
  17. One thing to mention is that Into the Woods (also by Rob Marshall) got similar critical reception and had horrible audience reception. This led to pretty average 3.5 multiplier. Maybe that could happen again but let's wait till audience reception I guess.
  18. These were the only movies they could use. Since it's almost blackout for foreign films, it seems like the Chinese government wanted to choose films that would not do well in the Chinese market to be released around the time. It is the same reason why Aquaman released in December instead of Bumblebee. They thought the former would do really bad in China and wouldn't interfere with the other movies.
  19. Musicals usually do better than they should in awards season. Same reason why Bohemian Rhapsody got nominated for Golden Globes and SAG and why Greatest Showman got awards buzz even though it was utter shit.
  20. Miller wasn't involved with the film. But either way, Lord also made The Lego Movie which was pretty much the best movie of 2014 so... everyone would have thought what you said.
