The wild swing is the fact that it was as idiosyncratic as it was (which TLJ even wasnt). Structurally the movie is a mess and it acts on an entirely different wavelength that makes it feel more like therapy for Lana than an actual sequel. When was the last time we had a big blockbuster feel this slight?

The entire movie is just Lana projecting her thoughts and (completely justified) frustrations on today onto the franchise that defined her career while also giving a ending to two characters that deserve a reunion. The movie is low stakes and it doesnt do what a sequel is supposed to do, but I thought it worked great as a way for an artist to just go through her own feelings on the past 20 or so years of her life. Its totally a film made for her than anyone else.

I agree with you here, but I just disagree with the notion that there is a lack of interest in this film or franchise as the other guy said. -

I mean sure, but the GA hasn't seen the film yet though. The scores on review sites are fine so far (which matters more than the contents of the reviews themselves). And wasn't PS chugging along just fine until Spider-man hit? I just don't see how interest would just collapse with no reason at all. Maybe Spider-man isn't the entire reason, but I think it started a domino effect and killed any momentum this movie had after its initial trailer. Edit: Obviously, I don't blame Spider-man for taking a lucrative spot. I blame WB for being a bunch of idiots. Hey, maybe they do want people to think this movie had no interest so that they could go ahead with that reboot they had planned years ago. -

Nah, it still works. A sequel to a 2016 kids film has way less in common than nostalgia sequels to huge 2000s franchises. And Matrix is on streaming, while Sing 2 isn't. Matrix 4's biggest audience is more likely to have seen Spider-man than Sing 2's and are more likely to stay home than go to the cinema again (espescially since they can watch the film at home). -

Yeah, I'm sure it's just a lack of interest and has nothing to do with the film releasing 3 days after the 2nd biggest opener of all time (that goes for almost the same demo). -
I dont think it wouldve been hard to imagine that The Last Duel wouldve made more than something like The Counselor though. The Last Duel is still far more accessible than that and yet it only made about half of it. Just a couple years ago we had a Ben Affleck starring, Fox October release that was just as dour as this make almost $400 mil.

Who tf are these parents that are taking their kids to watch Sing 2 even with this Omicron scare and everything? -
The point of marketing is to give people a reason to watch a movie. If people are ready to eat-up 100 Spider-man movies, don't see why no one would be interested in one new adaptation of a classic. And c'mon, we just had a shot-for-shot remake of The Lion King two years ago make almost two billion dollars. An updated, more relevant version of WSS that looks as wonderful as this does would've made money even a couple years ago.
