Nah, as long as studios overwork CG artists to create weightless goop because it's cheaper and easier (kinda related to a topic that's been hot on this thread over the past couple days), hating on it is completely fine.
Loved it. Brutal film. Proof that the only filmmakers making actual movies for adults within the studio system today have been doing it for decades. And this looks like it was made for 10x the budget of the other Jodie Comer Fox movie that released this year. One thing that stood out to me is the movie's suggestion about how a woman's rape is turned into entertainment for the masses (which works on a meta-level).
And I definitely didn't expect horse-fucking lol.
Why are you using some rumor mill as a source? You know this is bullshit when a simple google search would show you that editors do fall under IATSE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_Picture_Editors_Guild
Feel like people complaining about talking too much about this are the same people who complained about talking too much about COVID at its early stages even when it became clear there would be a big impact.
Pretty sure outsourcing like that is illegal.
Edit: Seems like it's not actually. But still, there's a lot of complicated work done in post-prod for big movies like this that can't just be outsourced.
I just remembered. I found the lack of IMAX footage really distracting. Whenever the movie went to a big action scene after the Cuba scene, I was like "aspect ratio gonna get big now" and it never did.
Anyone here use Regal Unlimited before? Is it any good? I spent about $70 on tickets to my local regal cinema last month and I feel like I wasted a lot of money.
Also, looking at WB's 2022 slate, it looks pretty dire in terms of Oscar contenders. They should switch this around with Aquaman 2 and make it their big Oscar push (I'm half joking).
Yeah, I guess Gucci too. West Side Story might aim old but even ITH opened over $10 mil. Shouldn't be too hard to pass that. And King Richard might be HBO Max but its target audience is less likely to have HBO Max (due to wider accessibility problems), which could help it a lot. It's a part of the reason why Space Jam 2 overperformed imo.
Didn't really think about it, but now that I am, below $10 mil would be awful. Going below The Counselor even though this is an easier sell would especially be really bad. If even this movie can't open past $10 mil, then I don't see any other smaller adult-oriented movie this year besides West Side Story and King Richard opening past that mark either.
The jab is that the actual eternals fan accounts have no clue who Chloe Zhao is. Really more a jab at the ignorance of those accounts. I mean there's a reason why they intentionally did a shitty crop there.
