Most shocking box office runs of the 21st century...

TOP GUN MAVERICK?

American Sniper

300/Wonder Woman
Let’s not forget the legendary double of Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle and The Greatest Showman.
Jumanji did a 52 million Wed-Sun opening and nearly a 8x multi to hit 400 million and become the highest grossing comedy of all time.
and TGS looked dead in the water opening weekend, but did a 13x Multiplier from its FIVE day opening weekend.
and they both opened THE SAME WEEKEND

What's the last non cbm (which will always be frontloaded) non animated blockbuster that had amazing WOM and how did that translate to legs?

Curious to see what Cruise does post TG and MI movies. Hope he doesn't go back to doing generic crap like Jack Reacher or The Mummy or whatever.
He's a really underrated dramatic actor, I'd love to see him in a non-action role again
I have heard he still wants to play Les Grossman again.
The obvious solution is a movie where Les Grossman is producing the new Tom Cruise movie and getting pissed that that sawed off little punk keeps trying to get himself killed.

The Lost City will make it to 100M. Good for Paramount. I just wish Sonic would have done 200M. Still 180M+ is very good
Yeah, even if Paramount sacrifices most of TLC’s theaters to Maverick, it will surely get some of the drive in pairings with it to get it over the number.

So around a 40% drop, including losing all the PLFs from last weekend.
not bad at all.

As for that B+ nonsense, Wolf of Wall Street got a C+ and I’m pretty sure people liked that movie.

Damn strong opening. How are the holdovers holding up?
Surprisingly well!
DL has Bad Guys dropping 32% this weekend, Sonic under 40% and EEAAO under 50%

They will make sure it crosses $100M.
On the one hand, it will hit P+ after next weekend, but on the other, it’s certainly going to get paired with Top Gun in the drive ins and Memorial Day is a strong drive in weekend.
meanwhile, EEAAO could have a strong hold as the likely backup choice if Strange is sold out.

Still curious to see if Father Stu gets any Easter boost

I didn't dislike Jurassic World. Liked it perfectly fine in a three-star out of five way, ya know?
But I never bothered with Fallen Kingdom. Trailers were unappealing, reviews/reception didn't make me think I missed out and from the looks of Dominion, they are pretending they never played the Nostalgia Card (annoyingly so, to be honest) while hoping for "finale factor."
The thing about Fallen Kingdom was, even the people who hated it usually admitted that the end hooked them for the next one.

Jacob Kowalski is by far the best thing about the movies and they’re giving him a wand in this one which seems like hardcore pandering at this point.
but good for Jacob tho.

I think both it and The Bad Guys should’ve opened in mid March. Ambulance on the 18th and Bad Guys on the 11th. Good counterprogramming and less competition for both.
Bad Guys should have moved to May 20th.

And Spidey didn’t even get a significant boost from drive ins because Uncharted seems to have mostly been paired with GB:A

14x Thursday previews is really strong for Jackass, right?

And with Friday’s gross, Ghostbusters: Afterlife has surpassed the domestic gross of Ghostbusters: Answer The Call (2016).

So Moonfall was selling decently well at Disney Springs tonight……..in the Dolby.
the 7:30 showtime in the enormous Theater 2, however, as of around 5 it had sold 12 tickets.

I know some theaters were adding last minute shows for Jackass tonight, so some smaller titles might get dinged further by losing showtimes.
Disney Springs added two shows today, for example.

So, who had The King’s Daughter somehow having a better hold than Redeeming Love?
-
Meanwhile, keeping an eye on Ghostbusters to see if it can get past 2016, which is likely at this point, should get back in top 10 this weekend unless Kings Daughter has a small drop out of nowhere.

Par have a pretty good line up this year. The Lost City looks to be fun and perform fairly good. Then Sonic, which i think it will do good business. Then Top Gun 2 which is a question mark and their biggest risk
Don’t forget Mission Impossible, which keeps getting better.

So it’s very likely 5cream’s opening weekend is going to beat Scre4m’s total.
well done.

"We Don't Talk About Bruno" predicted to climb up to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Without radio support, the likelihood of it reaching #1 is immensely low (#1 song "Easy on Me" has over 100 million audience impressions). However, with a discount and release of different versions, #1 might be possible even without widespread radio support.
The movie has all but become a behemoth. I cannot recall of a time where a movie had every quadrant of America in the palms of its hands since the days of "Frozen."
We need to get Surface Pressure in the top 10 as well.

If they get the drive in pairing with Jurassic, that might get them over the top.
