  1. I loved Thor4, cried a little at the end, 8.75/10

as for TRoS, there’s something I love about it, not as an actual movie, mind you, but what it represented.

To me, it represented a father who catches their kid smoking and makes them finish the whole pack so they never want to smoke again.

Disney was MAD at the hardcore TLJ haters, and realized that they were never going to satisfy them no matter what they did, so they decided to give them everything they said they wanted……and make them regret it.

It was the old “Fine, leave, and don’t let the door hit you on the way out” to the most toxic fans, and since then, that’s when Disney was like, we’re not cutting crap out for the bigots in countries like China and Saudi Arabia, we don’t need your money, we are tired of trying so hard to pander to a relative handful of loud jerks who will never be satisfied unless you tell them they’re the most special little dumplings and only they matter.

Disney stopped caring if they complained because they knew half of them would still buy their crap anyway, and focused on the next generations.

Yeah, the third act being Evil Dead 4 was fun but the big problem was that end of first act stretch from the pizza shop to Wanda's "farm" being absolute dire zone-out. Just the worst, laziest exposition. The film truly never recovered from that for me. The reshoots and obligatory dialogue really stuck out

I do eagerly await America Chavez and Kate Bishop bonding over pizza.

  3. Both IMAX near me (one AMC, one Regal) are both doing the same thing this weekend.

jWD gets the first and third showtime, Lightyear gets the second and TGM gets the late show.

Maverick is also going back into the 4DX nearby.

and as for the Dolby at Disney Springs, it’s an even split between Lightyear and Elvis, Lightyear gets the early shows, Elvis the evening shows.

Last week $126.7m to me, it is a overperformance overall but not crazy performance. $125m-130m has always been the high-end number of the some of the tracking and TGM hit the mark.

But this 2nd weekend number, most of the people had it around 65m-75m during mid-week with very few seriously shouting 80m. And with actual of 90m, I would say this is what we call CRAZY! as it surpass the even most optimistic expectation and wish.

Scott Mantz gets to gloat, he predicted $85-95 and it landed right in the middle, he nailed it

OT: But we used to talk about movie subscriber numbers...and then Covid happened.

Cinemark has now made public that they are the 1st "US Only" chain to hit 1M movie subscribers (so that's 1M tickets/month in play at the chain...+ family tickets).

And if you're a subscriber, play their points giveaway - I got $3 off concessions for my June movie (aka 75 pts), so that will come in handy.

We need to consider how these subscribers can rally to one movie in a month and really sky it...or split amongst a few and have much lower, but wider, impacts...

I’ve had A-List since July 2018, except for March20-May21) and have used it 168 times

Let me help you.  Myself and others said that TG2's weekend was more impressive.

For whatever reason, you interpreted that to be some statistical value of bigger.

Myself and others maintain that TG2's opening weekend is more impressive given all the factors.

    Yes, agreed.

A 30+ year later legacy sequel, that was delayed for two years, DOUBLING Tom Cruise’s biggest opening weekend is far more impressive than a conclusion to a trilogy failing to match the opening of the middle chapter that broke the OW record less than a year before.

I disagree here. Back in 2015, even days before JW opened ... there was practically no "hype". If you go back to those threads, you would see that the most optimistic predictions for it where in the 120M OW region except for the lunatic @excel1.

Thats why its opening was so suprising and epic because nobody saw it coming. I would honestly say the hype for Dominion is a lot bigger right now (atleast online) than it ever was for JW. Ofc that doesnt have to mean that it will also approach 200M OW even though i believe in divine justice and thus in 210M+ OW, but yeah, i see a lot more hype among fans for it than for either JW or FK back in 2015/18.

I feel like people forget that it broke the OW record.

possibly the most forgotten breaking of the record since Ghostbusters 2

So it is then 127m instead of 124m. 6.6x of Preview multiplier, compared to 6.2x of batman.

Even if Monday come in line with paramount estimate at 27m, that would still mean a record breaking 154m and I am hoping a military-themed movie will fit well as a go-for-choice on memorial day.

27 million would be a 27% drop which would be in line with the worst drop for a major Memorial Day release in the last decade (as in not that lame Poltergeist remake)

if it has a drop like Aladdin, then you get 31 million

Honey I Shrunk The Kids already has a sequel that is going on Disney+ at some point (if they in fact moved forward with it) that has Moranis and Josh Gad.

Austin Powers 4 can't work unless Mike Myers loses 40 pounds and finds a time machine.

I’ve thought the solution is recast Austin with Eddie Redmayne but Myers still plays his other characters, lean into the Bond recasting jokes.
