GWTW is virtually zero in the east, Titanic isn't. GWTW was basically NA, Europe phenomenon. Titanic is worldwide at same level. I haven't really seen anywhere where Titanic underperformed. TBH I don't really buy the 200mn admits in NA but even if it is, there is a film in India, Sholay which had 250mn plus admissions. It did great in USSR but I will overstating if even 1% in West even heard its name. That's what GWTW is. Popular with less population (Europe + NA) less than India.

Titanic rules obviously. The biggest movie success of all time worldwide. Star Wars (original), Endgame, GWTW, Avatar are no match at all.

I guess you are taking the yearly ATP as ATP as Avatar ATP or whatever source you look upto is doing that but that's not how things are. e.g. using the same approach in USA gives around 100mn admits for Avatar when in reality it had 70mn Approx admits.

Admits weren't less due to that but Gross was. If Avatar had ATP equal to 2009 rates, it would have grossed $500-550mn Approx.

I just realised, Avatar is the least watched film to have domestic crown with just around 70mn admits. Endgame shall be around 80-85mn if crossed TFA.

Regarding that Maoyan likes/interested thing, its been 10 years since that page has been made, so I am not really surprised. The highest increase in single day is around 4k, on day sequels were announced.

Yeah it's 155mn. I rechecked it. Avatar at Maoyan is ¥1.34B, which at early 2010 rate ($=¥6.9) is $195mn. I said $190mn just for approx number but that's not the point, point is that 1. Success of an original in early 2010s doesn't guarantees the same level of increase as in the market increase. 2. 2nd and the most important being the Wolf Warrior 2 ceiling. I don't think it is doing 60% of that even.

Regarding, Avatar. I don't think it will cross WW2 admits. WW2 had much more appeal to Chinese masses than any Hollywood film ever can IMO. Yeah, Avatar original did around $190mn (around 30mn admits) in 2009 but so did Pacific Rim did $111mn in 2013, the sequel wasn't even $100mn Grosser or for that matter Journey to the West did ¥1.24B in 2013 and sequel did barely ¥1.65B. WW2 did 145mn and the best Avatar can do is 100-125mn IMO. That would be ¥4.5-6.25B depending on what ATP of Avatar is ¥45 or ¥50. @Olive what say?
