Not even going to do comps because they haven't changed much. Only one of note is Wakanda, and A2 is up to 77% of the final presale for that with two days left. Weather isn't helping in-person purchasers either as yesterday the roads were icy and snow packed, and more storminess is predicted for the first half of tomorrow so we'll see if that has any effect on the walk ups.

Article in NYT this morning about how Bejing is basically in a self imposed lockdown. The govt. has lifted the most stringent restrictions, but Covid hesitancy has led to people sheltering in place. Businesses have no customers and their employees aren't reporting to work anyway, so it's a vicious cycle. It would be hard to imagine a worse environment to release a movie in.

Anecdotally, I was talking to some folks in my supers crowd today and none of them are going on preview night. But every single one was planning to see this over the holidays, with several having already purchased tickets for Christmas Day. If that's typical, those Black Adam and Wakanda comps look even more impressive with four days still to go.

Previously, it had increased 19% over the previous 72 hours, but today it's up almost 23% in just the last 48. Friday and Saturday are both looking strong as well, with Sugarhouse Friday already at 150% of Thursday, and Saturday close behind at 125%. Next week is going to be crazy!

It's a strange world indeed when Netflix decides to give one week in theaters for Glass Onion and Disney foregoes theatrical altogether with Hocus Pocus 2. Each could have made bank and still had plenty of gas left for the streaming release.

Oh man, I didn't see that Orchard Park report. That is just NUTS. Thanks for the heads up, I'll give The Weather Channel their due. I'd love to see some of that snow in Utah but we've been stuck in a terrible drought for years now. ☹️

I wondered that too, but it's less a true winter storm and more of a freak lake-effect event, and even then, the only cities of note it's affecting are Cleveland, Erie, Utica, and Buffalo. The Weather Channel was saying a few days ago that Buffalo might get 4-6 feet, but so far the totals have been far less than predicted. (Buffalo is expecting 4-8 inches tonight.) I doubt it's having much of an impact, TBH.
