Intouchable was a a phenomenon. Praised by critics and audience alike it opened huge then went on to become the 3rd highest grossing movie of all of time in France right below Avatar.
the Upside will be fine but don’t expect it to duplicate that success
$300M and $100M inches away, what a homerun for WB on their holiday releases. As a matter of a fact save for CoG underperforming their second half of the year was full of hits, MeG ,CRA, ASIB, NUN even Smallfoot then finally The Mule and Aquaman.
Oh it is passing TDKR for sure. The Dark Knight Rises is only $85M above the billion and Aquaman should reach the billion by next Saturday. It certainly can crawl past more than $85M for the remaining weeks of it runs.
Wonder Woman releases date was pushed up to that “3 weeks prior” after Transformers was put against it.
as for bumblebee it opened in half of it overseas market the weekend of the 26 I don’t see they couldn’t place it there. Both placements were arrogant and they payed the priced Wonder Woman manhandled the hell of TF5 but Aquaman straight up murdered Bumblebee.
You’re naïve. We don’t live in a “would’ve” world and Hollywood exces certainly don’t. The narrative will be a Transformer movie made less then $400M worldwide and that’s bad optics for the franchise.
Bumblebee matching T5 would have been a bona fide succes. Bumblebee making $500M would’ve have been nice quite a promising and bright future for th franchise but bumblebee making $350M-$375M just look bad.
Paramount retooled the whole franchise for it to have second life not for the first entry of that retooled franchise to be by far the lowest entry in the overall franchise.
