Oh, okay, I didn’t know that. I liked all those movies, although JC seemed too long and I think it was a mistake to hire Depp for Lone ranger, he was too captain Jack-y
They would probably make one or two lone ranger/wrinkle in time bombs as well, I give you that. But yeah there were years that disney distributed only two tentpoles (2010 I think)
Why 2009-2019 42% growth is chimera:
first of all Avatar’s run was mostly in 2010 - bigger year than 2009
emergence of chinese local films
other presumed local films (french, indian, idk)
dissapearance of medium films (bo top heavy - isn’t fair to compare only top 10)
mcu/disney live remakes - those are new genres. If in 2009 horror didn’t exist and in 2019 it made $5B no one would say that other movies could earn that money
I am not saying that without mcu bo would go down $5B but at least substantial portion of that ($3B for example). The same with local chinese movies 2009 vs 2019, that’s at least $6B. That money couldn’t be allocated to hlwd films
To be honest I’ve never understood watching comedy films in theater - only one I’ve seen was hangover and that was because it was a date. Comedies are glorified tv films
I was 14 when Titanic was out and it also missed me completely. I liked armageddon, something about mary and other movies more and have seen titanic in 2002-4 on tv first time and maybe once after that
It shouldn’t be too difficult to apply inflation to Gavin’s numbers. For example argentina averaged something like 25% per year ~250%, making $200m equal to $57m (200/(1+2.5)) if my math is correct
Yeah, prices
we have cheap mondays for $6, regular $7-$8, club card gives $1 discount and costs $5 yearly. Twice a year we have cheap sunday for $2.5. I don’t go to imax, but 3D imax for Infinity war was something like $12. Students have $1 discount (stackable with card, so on mondays they go as low as $4)
