i am sure Avatar 2 will make tons of money and it has high chance to make 2B+( mainly due to china), and i wish it beat Avatar record as i really liked the first , but to say that the floor is Avatar 2.78B is stupid, there are no metrics, trailers or even huge buzz to prove that, that is like me saying EG will make 2.7B back in 2014 when phase 3 was announced, cause i am sure people would have laughed at me then and they will have the right to do so.

Again, I tried to give Avatar every advantage possible to prove the point I know that 40.8M is wrong, never believed it, and even without knowing that ATP for Avatar was as high as EG, I guessed that is grossed about 28M, if you take the 3D release of Titanic as comp (which sold 21M ticket in China) And apply the same ticket price to Avatar (as both were 3D and released only 3 years apart) you will get 28M for Avatar.

100M is a bit of exaggerating, he May revise Avatar numbers I think, but let's do sample math, Avatar has a lead of 50-52M over EG in EU, Japan and Australia, the former made 96M, 10.1M. 7.5M, while the latter made 53M, 4.01M, 5.7M, that's about 51M gap which will be closed by EG in china alone (86.6vs 28), now add LA 2 biggest markets (Brazil and Mexico),EG made 44,while Avatar made 21.1M (23M gap)+ USA 10M difference This leaves EG 40.6M ahead of Avatar(23+10+7.6) and that's excluding South East Asia, India and rest of LA which will widen the gap. P.S: even if we take the 40.8M number in china for Avatar, which is reported in china BO thread, EG will still have about 28M lead, now add the remaining markets and you are looking at 50M at least. EG will have AT LEAST 50M lead over Avatar anyway, and it should be compared to Titanic original run only. Titanic is the G.O.A.T btw

Avatar run was impressive, the thing is it made most of its money in EU and USA. put it this way, Avatar made nearly 1.1B in EU, EG made about the same in Asia, and putting into consideration that ATP in EU countries is way higher than it in Asian countries and the favorable ER in 2009, it is obvious that EG made more admissions, not to take away from Avatar but if we will talk about admissions i think Avatar should be compared to IW as both are near each other in the total sold tickets, while EG should be compared to titanic as you said. imo, i think it will go like this GWTW-titanic-EG-Avatar-IW-TFA maybe the original star wars with its re-release and E.T can be in this list too.
