probably that. But Strange World proves the bottom is very far down.
The barebones marketing for Strange World was a clear sign that Disney had no faith in it. Besides, Sci-Fi Animation seems to be box poison in general (Treasure Planet, The Iron Giant, Mars Needs Moms).

hmm thinking more clearly about this...
This might be another bomb like Strange World if they can't give the audience a nice hook for the story.
I think it has an advantage over Strange World simply by being a Disney Princess Musical.

Are the presale numbers that bad?

Either way, he's being a crybaby diva and needs to lay off.

If The Batman was a critical and commercial flop, I'd understand. But it made money, people liked it, so why fix something that ain't broken? Meanwhile, Superman's last standalone film was incredibly polarizing and that iteration (along with most of the DCEU) has not clicked with audiences.
At least this way, DC is putting out content of some kind while Gunn is getting the house in order. And who knows? Maybe Reeves will change his mind and bring Battinson over. But for now, just leave it alone.

What's the harm in having something to tide audiences over while Gunn and Safran figure out how to get the house back in order?

I seriously cannot stand this much versions of whatever ‘auteurs’ want to make for DC characters. It’s not like The Batman is The Godfather. It’s a good superhero film, right there with the best Batman films of all time, sure. But if he is isolated from the universe that they are building, you all can enjoy it but I’m likely giving up on that, even if I loved the first film.
What I want is what Gunn is envisioning for the DC Universe. I will follow that instead.
We're so far away from any of Gunn's plans coming to fruition that we can afford to wait and just let Matt Reeves do what he's been doing.
-
Most of what they're planning is still in early development and won't be fully realized until at least four or five years from now. Let Reeves do what he wants with Batman.

This is basically Gunn and Safran saying that nothing is going to deter them or change their minds moving forward.

The early months look rather unremarkable to me, though maybe might still be an improvement over last year.
Hopefully the US will avoid any more huge covid waves and this can really be the first "normal" year since 2019.
I fully expect January to February to be slow but with steady surges (I.E. M3GAN, Knock at the Cabin, Ant-Man, Scream 6, Shazam). Then things will pick up a bit in April before things get busy in May and June.
-
If I had to guess what their marketing schedule is going to look like:
December to January: Second trailer for Ant-Man 3
February to March: Trailers for Guardians 3, Little Mermaid, and Elemental; Possible first look at The Marvels at Super Bowl
April: All focus on Guardians and The Little Mermaid; Trailer for Indy 5 and The Marvels
May: Shifting the focus on Elemental once The Little Mermaid is in the rearview mirror; Trailer for The Haunted Mansion
June: Focus on Elemental and Indy 5; first trailer for Wish
July: All hands on deck for The Marvels; trailer for Haunting in Venice
August: TBD
September to October: Ramping up the marketing for Wish; first trailer for Elio
November: First trailer for Inside Out 2

I'm still hopeful that 2023 can bring the box office back to pre-COVID levels, especially with a promising slate of movies. May through July in particular is looking guaranteed to be a very busy three month stretch.
Expect it to be up from 2022, but no more than that. The market still needs more time to fully stabilize.
-
June is so damn crowded. I'm predicting that one of those moves forward or pushed back. And until we get a Flash trailer, I'm not even sure its making its release.

A film with Cavill against Braniac seemed like it would be appealing and Steven Knight seems to have a solid resume. Gunn better make something that blows people away otherwise people will not be happy
While I'm sure it would have turned out nice, there was just too much baggage surrounding this iteration of Superman.

Hoping on news soon on the slate as a whole and this movie
I wouldn't expect any casting announcements for at least another year or two.
-
Frankly, I think they should have rebooted the DCEU after JL.

Sure, I agree. But acting like this is some huge backlash is hilarious. Any backlash will blow over by January, and as soon as someone is hired as Director and Actor, only Snyder fanboys will care.
I guarantee that most general audiences will move on from Cavill and be like "Oh cool, a new Superman movie" when the trailer hits.

But the cast was well received...? This is a tough spot for them, but this aint the answer.
You wouldn't be able to divorce those actors from the vision that turned off the general audience. Too much baggage.

I don’t understand this logic. The thing that “got the brand to this point” was Zack Snyder’s vision, and he’s been gone for years now. Its just weird that James Gunn would reboot a universe that he himself had already left his stamp on. That’s what’s surprising.
Snyder has been gone, but his touch and baggage still lingers as long as they keep this cast.

Hopefully 2023 is stronger for animation than 2022 was.
