I don't see this being a flop at all. But I'm struggling to understand why it cost 3.5x more than the first movie.

The bar is so low for a Fantastic 4 movie. Even with Marvel being shaky at best, lately, I can't imagine them screwing up worse than the previous attempts.
-
Sheesh. Lot of undue pessimism about this casting.

Can't do worse than the last attempt.... 🤢

May or may not go anywhere. But thought it was worth posting here since it seemed relevant:

Reminds me of... Alien vs Predator: Requiem. Young adult horror flick about dumb teenagers vs xenomorphs with C-level cast that tries mask absence of plot and characters with excessive gore and shock value. It worked so great last time we are truly in for a treat! But I'm not gonna be there to witness this masterpiece, I don't watch movies that remind me of a movie I gave 1/10 to.
I mean, Requiem had other issues beyond the tasteless gore that made it bad. But point taken. I hope it's not as mean-spirited and needless edgy as that wreck was.

Damn even the creatives are looking away in horror over what they've made.

Sounds like we're in for what could be the most gnarly Alien movie to date.
I love it.

Personally, I just feel bad for Sasha Calle. She was cast as Supergirl a mere three years ago, and WB pretty much made her handle the promotional tour for The Flash by herself on the count of Ezra Miller’s controversies, and she has practically nothing to show for it now.
I mean, the character was killed off in the movie, anyway. But yeah, it is unfortunate.

"During a recent round of reshoots, Merced and some nearby cast/crew got to watch a significant chunk of the film on Álvarez’s iPad, and one scene in particular prompted everyone but Merced to look away in horror."
“There’s a scene that I’m in, and they all had to turn away. Not one person stayed looking at that iPad because it was so disgusting,” Merced reveals. “And I was watching it like this … (Merced pretends to hold an iPad with a mesmerized look on her face.) I was so excited.”

Looks certifiably bonkers. I'm in.

Really hoping this movie surpasses expectations, lest Zaslav decides to shutter the whole thing if it isn't the mega blockbuster he wants it to be.

I do not trust David Zaslav to leave Gunn and Safran to work on their DC universe in peace.

Why are all the film sites posting about “Alien film gets a title…” ?
We’ve known it was Romulus since November.
It's officially confirmed now, at least. Which isn't a major update, but it gives these sites a morsel to report on.

Called shot: they're gonna screen Alien here
Maybe. Or at the very least, go deep into it.

Nah it happens and the precedent is there. There was at least two in 2019: Scary Stories and Hobbs & Shaw both got spots. After the huge success of Avatar 2 and the sinking ship that is Disney's animation/remakes/Marvel/Star Wars, they'll be going HARD on the Fox properties cause that's where the money is.
They're putting their money on the things that have their shit together somewhat (Pixar). And while Alien hasn't had the best track record, the announcement of a new film should at least generate some excitement.

I was trying to decide if just saying $102M DOM OW would make me a nut...decided it might:)...
In hype factors, you also forget the build toward Dune in Feb - there is now both the rerelease of the original and the rerelease of the remake hitting theaters in Feb, both being hyped before this hits...
It's gonna be a boulder rolling downhill and picking up steam - it's the movie event to start 2024.
If I hadn't blown Color Purple so badly (another movie, like Dune 2, out of my wheelhouse), I'd be WAY more confident. But I am at least confident enough that everyone is thinking too low ($50 OW as even in the possible range - nah) to let Shawn know to come on board and start thinking higher than he is...
That, too. People who maybe missed out on the initial hype now have the chance to discover it. The first movie is going to be fresh on their minds, which will help going into the coming weeks.
I think anywhere between $55-100M OW is possible here.

Not that I ever truly doubted, but I'm slowly getting sucked into the hype on this one.
- The goodwill from the first movie (in its initial release and streaming)
- No HBO Max or piracy this time
- The increased star power of Timothee Chalamet (and Zendaya)
- The fact that February is a barren desert for new releases
