Not bad for Challengers assuming that is the pure Thursday number. $20M isn't certain, but a high-$10Ms launch isn't too bad. But yeah, the lack of any appealing product made this month pretty pitiful. Hopefully the busier periods later in the year bring in better results.

I love how Ant Man's giant body (with skeleton) is some kind of stronghold.
His movie flopped so bad he got shot out back by Feige. His skeleton being used as a prop is just salt in the wound at this point.

Apparently, the new Knuckles series mostly focuses on Adam Pally's character, and the ending doesn't tie into Sonic 3 in any major way (ie. No keanu tease).
For what it's worth, the reviews themselves seem pretty positive so far. It's just that Adam Pally has a bigger role than fans would like, and Kotaku running with a headline today about how Knuckles is "barely" in it isn't helping at all.

I finally got to sit down and fully watch the trailer, and I have to say, it's looking good! This trailer was less exciting than the first one, but this one is much funnier and showcases the core of the movie better. Had Marvel not made the mistakes it has made, this would've been an easy billion dollar hit. But even still, this can easily get to Homecoming/Guardians 2/Thor 3 numbers, with maybe a bigger domestic skew.

Deadline calling Civil War's 56% drop a "great hold" is hilarious. Adult-centered movies have the most legs. A 56% drop is passable at best especially with weak ass competition.
Civil War is an exception here, not only because it is very fan-driven, being an A24 Alex Garland picture, but also because of its highly polarizing and volatile nature. Under that context, that drop seems like a miracle.

What a huge shame for Abigail. It's great, and deserves to make a whole lot more money than it's about to.

I wonder if Universal, seeing the highly volatile reception the Transformers trailer is getting, deems that movie not big enough of a threat and decides to stay put.

I'll be cautiously optimistic about this for now. I really like the art style and, surprisingly enough, Hemsworth's performance. But I'm not feeling the humour, at least not yet.

I wonder if they'll have another teaser tomorrow with a bit more Shadow.
We can say it's too early, and hell maybe it is, but we thought they'd wait until June to announce Shadow's voice and here we are.
I imagine they'll take a page out of Marvel's playbook and avoid formally announcing it themselves until a special occasion, like Sonic's 33rd anniversary or Comic-Con this year.

Ah ok I see, thanks everyone.
Same as what Sponge Bob did back in the day, spoofing big films around the same time with poster tributes.
I'll ruin all of your days by reminding you all that Sherlock Gnomes, the random Gnomeo and Juliet sequel no one ever asked for, also used a lot of parody posters for marketing. I don't think it worked out for them.

Either a really good hold or some decent opening locations.
It opened this weekend here in Turkey for example, in order to avoid Ramadan. I imagine we're not the only market with a staggered launch.

My dream Godzilla movie at this stage would be a King of the Monsters do-over of sorts. That movie was such a waste of some excellent characters that I'd love to see another one try that concept again, but do them proper justice in an actually good movie not bogged down by a story that is too ambitious for the talent attached to this franchise.

Any previous Monsterverse film in the franchise you’d wish/want to see a theatrical re-release of?
It's an obvious answer for me: Godzilla vs Kong. Because of theaters here being closed during its release, as well as the easily piratable instant HBO Max copy, it never got a theatrical release in my country. Getting to see the sequel on the big screen was insanely satisfying and cathartic for me, and I'd love to get a chance to see the first crossover the way the filmmakers intended it to be seen.

GxK going to be a drag to 200m it looks like. It’s having a good run, but was hoping it would pass G14 with ease after the opening it had.
The novelty factor was simply too strong with the 2014 reboot. It was the one chance the property had at Marvel-level stardom, and Edwards's choices caused it to blow it. Without another 15-year slumber, Goji ain't reaching that high again. I also think that Civil War being a lot stronger than anyone had expected ate into it this weekend.
Still, it's still performing unabashedly great, especially considering King of the Monsters by all rights should've killed the franchise years ago. That this one is even coming close to the novelty-driven high of that 2014 reboot is a big accomplishment not many saw coming. That alone leaves me grateful.

You know, I'm kind of jealous of the people who got to attend Disney's CinemaCon panel, as they saw exclusive footage that may likely be thrown out and never see the light of day during the impending reshoots. I'm also surprised they even showcased it in any way as those reshoots haven't even commenced yet. Maybe they're not Josstice League-level? I'm still pretty worried about this though.

So no word on the new Mel Gibson movie FLIGHT RISK there?
I heard they premiered a trailer for it.
I've heard it was present, but they danced around explicitly mentioning his name by using "from the director of Braveheart, Hacksaw Ridge and Apocalypto".

So all that and Lionsgate didn't promote White Bird? Lol that's getting delayed again isn't it?
They're likely giving up on it, akin to Paramount not mentioning The Rhythm Section by a word back in their 2019 panel. I frankly don't get why it even got made. Wonder was a solid hit for its time, but not only has it not left much of an impact on pop culture, but its story seemed pretty well-concluded to me, with not much room for more.
-
And with the Disney panel, this year's CinemaCon has drawn to a close. Overall it was pretty lukewarm, with the big exception of Paramount's unexpectedly bold and ambitious showing. I guess it was to be expected taking into account the impact those strikes made. Hopefully next year's CinemaCon is better.

WHAT?
After a decade of false starts, it still hasn't registered to me that we're actually getting a live action Minecraft movie. Insane. I wonder when we'll get our first look. I have a feeling that whenever that comes around, we'll be back in the "CHRIS PRATT IS MARIO?!?!" era as if it was yesterday.
-
Paramount's panel was excellent. So much news, and a lot of exciting footage shown. They'll likely win the convention considering how lukewarm Disney's slate looks for the year.

They'll announce the cast for a movie coming out October 2025 but not one coming out December 2024.
lol
Sonic's birthday is in just a couple of months. It makes so much thematic sense to save the Shadow casting reveal for their Sonic Central stream at around that exact time. I wouldn't be shocked if he has already been cast, but Paramount can't reveal it yet because of a gag order courtesy of Sega. They are a big outside party who will no doubt have final say over marketing after how successful the first two movies were. Also, this movie's cast was already revealed back in February. Shadow is the only missing piece.

So... are they gonna show a trailer publicly tomorrow or it's gonna be Cinema Con exclusive? Any word about this?
They have marketing material up on the floor, so it's likely a public one. The one hurdle is that IF's trailer has been confirmed for a public release tomorrow, and I don't see Paramount releasing two CinemaCon trailers.

That reeks of utter spin. They're going to need a whole lot more than action to save this movie. I wonder how much of the Wiseman cut is going to make it into the finished movie. I guess anything Lance Reddick filmed, for one.

So Lionsgate just started their panel, and while it is still ongoing, so far they have announced that Margot Robbie has signed onto their long in gestation Monopoly movie and they're partnering with Blumhouse on a Blair Witch reboot. There are also more details on Guy Ritchie's next film, Henry Cavill's Highlander reboot and the usual exclusive previews of impending movies. You can eventually read about them all here:

Oh, and also, Fall Guy was amazing. I really hope that one is a hit when it arrives in America next weekend. David Leitch is 4 for 4 to me so far.
