  1. I'm a big fan of Spy x Family (and probably also one of the first ones, I started reading it on its first day on MangaPlus), but there is something that doesn't totally convince me in the anime adaption

Maybe it's the pacing that isn't fast enough or Anya's iconic faces don't look as good as in the manga, but I don't know if anyone else has this feeling

  2. Reposting this before Dead Reckoning:

    4) Rain Man - 10/10.5M (estimate)

    5) Minority Report - 10.3M

    6) Top Gun - about 10M (estimate)

    7) Eyes Wide Shut - 9.7M

    8)Vanilla Sky 7.8M

    10) Collateral - 6.9M

You mean 光.遇?That is the game made by the Chinese man called Chen Xinghan, and that game is very popular among the otaku in China, maybe only after Glory of King ,PIBG,Genshin impact..etc.

Ah yeah that's the game, and after checking he was indeed the founder of the company together with Kellee Santiago who instead is from Venezuela

And I'm glad to hear the game is so popular at least in China, it's very enjoyable and relaxing but it seems to have a low number of downloads in Europe

  4. We are in the middle of the year so I wanted to analyze my forecasts from the beginning of the year:

From the idea of @Simionski on the Bulgarian thread, some box office forecasts for 2023

    Likely over 10M euros:

    - Fast X: tricky one, seventh and eight did really well but the ninth (damaged by covid) only 5M. We'll see

    - Super Mario Bros Movie: it needs to do much better than Detective Pikachu and Sonic, and I think it will do it

    - The Little Mermaid: despite the actress looking nothing like Ariel we are still talking about the Little Mermaid, grossing less than that would be quite bad

    - Indiana Jones 5: this one will be interesting because the actor and saga are very popular but the previous one only made 12M

    - Dune Part Two: previous one made 7.4M with some covid and some important competition

    Likely over 5M euros:

    - L'Ultima Notte di Amore: first and last Italian movie, interesting premise and Favino as the main actor

    - Aquaman 2

    - Guardians of the Galaxy 3: the previous ones grossed 7M, I don't expect an huge increase

    - Transformers Rise of the Beasts

    - The Flash: ok with nostalgia but he isn't Spider-Man and we still don't know anything about quality

    - Mission Impossible 7: despite the enormous popularity of Tom Cruise all the Mission Impossible movies have strangely grossed only 5/6 million euros, I hope for a miracle but to exceed 10M we'll probably need to wait for the eighth film

    - The Marvels

    - Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

    - Ant Man 3

    - Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse: hopefully, because the first made only 2.8M

    - Oppenheimer

    - Barbie

    - A Haunting in Venice, if Death on The Nile did better I would have even said 10M

    - At least one between Elemental and Wish

    - At least one between Gran Turismo and Ferrari

    - Kraven the Hunter, Morbius is less popular and probably worse and made 3M, so why not?

    - Wonka: "the Chocolate Factory" was very popular especially on tv, maybe it can surprise us and reach the 10M

As we can see there isn't any film likely to gross over 20 million euros, last time it happened was in 2017 when Beauty and The Beast which was quite uncertain managed to end at 20.4M

For the ones over 10M I was wrong with Indiana Jones (should finish at 7/8M max) and surprised by Mario making 20M, numbers that I only expected in my dreams

For the ones over 5M I was wrong with The Flash, Transformers and the Italian film, while I completely forgot about Creed coming out this year and surprised by John Wick making almost 6M. Guardians of the Galaxy instead managed to overperform and gross over 10M

Nice, but I'm quite surprised by the X men, does it includes Wolverine and Deadpool solo movies?

Yes , an officer killed a 17 year old teenager who has an Algerian background which sparks the foreign population of France ( who suffers from racism and discrimination since ever ).

And now they're rioting against the country by targeting everything from buses , cars , shops , supermarkets ..

Today 45K officers will be deployed for the night .

To be fair respectable French people suffer damages from these people much more than those suffer from racism, and the real problem with the French police is that they are the most violent in Europe (a few years ago during the yellow vest protests at least 20 people lost an eye due to rubber bullets)

    1 INDIANA JONES ~ €431119 (+44.3%)

    2 ELEMENTAL ~ €240187 (+41.9%)

    3 THE FLASH ~ €53456 (+39.8%)

Quite a good jump for Indiana jones, obviously it didn't have a great number to jump of so still not good.

Elemental is down only 11.4% from last friday, if it can hold 10-15% on sat and sunday this is surely looking to beat TGD total. Also €6m seems very doable at this point no?

Every time I doubt a day of bad weather with cold and rain can have some increase on the box office then the data arrives to prove me wrong, but obviusly better that way  🤷‍♂️

I reached out to The Numbers to find out what the source of the discrepancy is. It seems BOM uses official numbers provided by Universal, whereas the Numbers is also using numbers provided by local film boards. The main issue appears to be the inclusion of numbers from the Russian film board, which Universal is not including in their own numbers possibly due to it being an unofficial distribution due to the boycott. There are also some small differences with Universal vs local film boards, with some markets reporting higher numbers than Universal. That explains the large gap in Universal's OS numbers on BOM vs The Numbers, particularly for Fast X.

At least they answered, I wrote 3 different emails to Boxofficemojo to ask them to adjust the data of some famous movies re-releases that had grossed a few thousand euros but on the site appeared to have a gross of 2/3 million or even more, without any response

Minions 2 had one week of IMAX and had excellent legs. 200m WW OW and made 930m

Mario had 400m WW OW. Billion was guaranteed no matter where it released. IMAX is not as important for kids movies. On top of that, it would have summer weekdays which is an advantage it would not have in April. The WOM and IP strength was too good for it to not make a billion. Exhibitors would’ve kept it on screens.

If released on Spider-Verse’s date, Mario’s second weekend would’ve beat Transformers OW and third weekend beats Elemental and possibly Flash OW

Not to mention that all these discussions about Imax screens always seemed so strange and distant to me (and also not as relevant as many people think), and I recently found out why: the majority of Imax screens worlwide are just in two markets: North America and China. The rest of the world has some scattered here and there, and Italy in particular has 5 and apart from those who live nearby no one has ever heard of them

Every INDIANA JONES movie has been the #1 movie overseas the year it released.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull grossed more overseas than even Dark Knight and Mamma Mia, and probably would've grossed a billion had it been well-liked.

In contrast, no STAR WARS film has been the #1 movie overseas since The Phantom Menace.

Attack of the Clones was beaten by The Two Towers, Chamber of Secrets, and Spider-Man.

Revenge of The Sith was beaten by Goblet of Fire.

The Force Awakens was beaten by Furious 7.

Rogue One was beaten by Civil War, Finding Dory, Zootopia, Jungle Book, BVS, Fantastic Beasts, and the Mermaid.

The Last Jedi was beaten by BATB, F8, DM3, and Wolf Warrior 2.

Solo was beaten by 35 different movies in 2018.

Rise of Skywalker was beaten by Wandering Earth, Ne Zha, Hobbs and Shaw, Aladdin, TS4, Joker, Captain Marvel, Far From Home, Frozen 2, The Lion King, and Endgame.

Indy 5 is definitely breaking that streak though.

Interesting, and what would the results be in overseas excluding China? The Force Awakens would be first but what about the others?

Yes thank you. That's what I was getting at by saying this opened in a severely crowded time frame as opposed to Mario which was the only big player in the entirety of April but you gave it much more detail and brought receipts.

It would've been an amusing scenario if AtSV and Mario dates had been swapped. Mario losing screens in June and not living up to its potential because of it would have started a 'Woke Hollywood is flopping with its feminist Princess Peach' narrative by the haters

Your are talking like Mario would have lost half of its gross, in reality making 1.2B instead of 1.35B wouldn't have started anything...

It also makes me think superhero fatigue is definitely a thing, perhaps not so much in USA/Canada but definitely internationally. ATSV and GOTG3 would have been easy $1b+ movies that made 9 figs in China if they came out in 2019.

I thought at least here on BoxOfficeTheory I wouldn't see people throwing 1 billion predictions to every movie expected to do over 700M, Spider Verse 2 never had any chance
