If someone wants great writing, great characters and adult storytelling they turn to TV and miniseries today. The theatrical space was essentially overstuffed with familiar franchise IP that followed a hero’s journey template, action and comedy mix for the entire 2010s and now launching a movie like Challengers to audiences just won’t do.
Cost of living is just hitting people too hard. Even if the experience improves people won’t pay to watch a movie when they can just wait a few weeks and watch it at home.
Unfortunately he is very right here. I just don't see a healthy future for the movie industry, just a few lightning in the bottle moments every few months to keep the pulse alive.
6 was great and refreshing after so many Sidney and Woodsboro centric movies. I’m not sure why people think Kevin Williamson will direct a better movie than Radio Silence.
It's sad how few movies nowadays really appeal to me. It feels like a lot of directors are on autopilot and then even some great movies that are being made aren't marketed well. Doesn't help that the franchise obsession has led Hollywood to have so few new bankable movie stars created in the last decade.
