  1. They’re gonna make a movie or a mini-series about this in 10 years lol. Insane
  2. Do the great reviews coming in change your mind on this? I feel like there’ll be a great review bump
  3. Mission Impossible gonna bamboozle us all over again. Tepid pre-sales until it invariably gets amazing reviews, blows up late and surpasses the previous entry’s opening weekend I personally can’t fucking wait! Doing a rewatch of the series this week
  4. Very goofy, occasionally funny, but lacking in the thriller department, this is best seen with a crowd. I saw it back in the theaters in early February, for a little break from Oscars homework. The reactions to a couple of the kills and jokes made it a lot more fun. Still, unexpectedly, I found myself a bit bored through a lot of the runtime; there just isn’t enough meat in the plot and the relationships between characters aren’t interesting enough. Still though, two consecutive set pieces, one in a visitor center and the other in an ambulance, were definitely the high point, those were a blast. Too bad the movie couldn’t match that for most of its runtime 5/10
  5. Plus, that was Del Toro, it had an inherent draw for Academy voters. Something like Nimona needs to do very well in terms of viewership to get on the academy’s radar. Maybe the critics will pick up the slack a bit? Don’t think so though
  6. Something tells me Elemental will earn a nom. Feels like it’ll go the Encanto route: disappointing box office, but blows up on Disney plus. Its legs to me really signal that it’ll be huge on D+ On the other hand, Nimona sadly doesn’t feel that way. It’s barely on the Netflix top 10 as of right now. Quality is there, just not enough eyeballs
  7. Eh, it will probably max out at 2x its budget (circa 90 million). I wouldn’t call it a success, but it made enough that it’ll break even with VOD (especially given Sony’s deal with Netflix). They were probably hoping it would break out more, but it’s not a disappointment either.
  8. Whenever Soul came out in theaters, it did very well (including China). I think it would have done by far the best of the Pixar pandemic trio

  11. Quick math- despicable me 3 opened to 72 million in a weekend with the 4th on the following Tuesday back in 2017, and dropped 27% from Sunday to Monday. That ended up having a 3.66x multiplier. Now Indy dropped 35%. They’re targeting different audiences of course, and it remains to be seen how it’ll be affected by MI and Oppenheimer, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to see a 3x multiplier for Indy based on this
  12. the funniest cinema experience I’ve had was my second time seeing TGM. Went to a neighborhood, old school theater, so me and my friends were the youngest there by far. So many older people would be talking to the screen like it was Dora the explorer lmfao. Stuff like “you’ve got this Maverick!” And “go get them!” it was honestly endearing
  13. Amazing film. On my end, I’m watching Sleepless in Seattle for the first time ever and just thinking of how impossible it would be for a movie like that to gross more than 200 million today
  14. Where the fuck are people watching these movies Like every Reddit thread about theaters people are bashing them and complaining about people being on phones, talking loudly, getting up and doing some outlandish shit. Like damn I go to the movies once a week and rarely experience any of that
