  1. Nice to see the film doing well but unfortunately I didn't like it as much as Part 1. This one felt less coherent and didn't have the ethereal feeling of the 1st film. The last third of the film felt very rushed and I also didn't like how they completely sidelined Jessica.
  2. Global weekend was $13.2m. Looks like it will finish near $425-430m.
  3. ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series Zeroes In On Premise As Selected Writers Pitch Their Ideas To Max Deadline understands that there may also be an opportunity for more than one of these writers to be involved, and that Max is open to the possibility of developing more than one idea based on Harry Potter. 4. FB3 was very popular in the US home market relatively speaking. It has earned almost $20m in video sales as of May 2023 according to the-numbers.com. Very few films have managed to reach that number lately.
  5. The Depp controversy, Ezra Miller controversy, and the pandemic hurt these films more than anything related to Rowling. Based on the interviews from Yates and Heyman, Rowling was very collaborative during the screenwriting process. For example, shifting the focus from Newt to Albus Dumbledore (and Hogwarts) wasn't what Rowling wanted (in fact, she had to be convinced to do it in The Crimes of Grindelwald).
  6. As a fan of the Hunger Games films/books who hasn't read the book for this one, I enjoyed this film quite a lot, more than I anticipated. I think it was as good as the original Hunger Games films. Hopefully, it does well at the box office, because it was obvious the creators put a lot of care into the film: acting, set design, cinematography, special effects, soundtrack, everything about it was very good. P.S. The trailers don't do Viola Davis justice: her performance was amazing.
  7. Looks like its gross will be very close to The Flash both domestically and internationally.
  8. An MCU film is on trajectory to have OW similar to FB3 domestically: FB3 had 6M previews, and x7 OW internal multiplier. The tracking thread here suggests almost identical numbers for The Marvels. (Overseas I am sure it will probably end up grossing much less.) It is a bit incredible that global powerhouse franchises like Wizarding World, DC and Marvel managed to reach such lows in a span of less than 2 years. At the same time I don't think it means the franchises are doomed. Just because one film underperforms, doesn't mean the franchise has to be reset. Both DC and Marvel also had mega hits during this span. I hope the recent struggles of Marvel and DC convince WB to give Fantastic Beasts characters another chance. If they rebrand the films, shift the focus of the story, and hire a director with fresh vision, it will surely attract interest and the fans will show up.
  9. Overall, I liked this. It wasn't perfect, but was original and had many of the elements that made me a Star Wars fan. I wish this had been the storyline of the sequel trilogy instead of what we got.
  10. With this weekend, Blue Beetle is now likely to overtake Dark Phoenix ($65.9M) and maybe even Morbius ($73.9M) if late legs are good.
  11. I don't think even $140M is reachable at this point. In the very optimistic scenario where the film reaches $75M domestic, its ~55/45 domestic/OS ratio would amount to $136M worldwide total.
  12. Couldn't finish even the 1st episode, unfortunately. Adult Ahsoka seemed a bit too dull, didn't sound and act like the Ahsoka from TCW at all (I know that the actress is different), while Rebels characters were utterly uncompelling.
  13. Would be a nice drop for Blue Beetle. Could reach 70m+ domestic, if it happens.
  14. Based on tracking seems like $70+ mil domestic total is a probable outcome. With another 70-80 from overseas, it can do 150+ WW.
  15. I think MI7 lost a bit of goodwill with some fans after the way it treated a certain major character. Personally, I decided to skip the film in theatres as soon as I learned about that plot point, and will skip MI8 too unless they somehow reverse what happened.
  16. The past 3 years have been terrible for WB tentpoles. Half of the 10 movies with $100m+ budgets bombed catastrophically, and only 2 were really successful: Title Budget Global BO Multiplier The Flash 200 300? 1,50 The Batman 200 771 3,86 Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore 200 407 2,04 Black Adam 200 393 1,97 The Matrix Resurrections 190 157 0,83 The Suicide Squad 185 169 0,91 Dune 165 402 2,44 Godzilla vs. Kong 155 470 3,03 Space Jam: A New Legacy 150 164 1,09 Shazam! Fury of the Gods 125 134 1,07
  17. Unfortunately, I can't see this doing much more than the Shazam sequel. Best case scenario imo would be around $30-35m OW and around $90m finish domestically, and maybe a bit more than that internationally for a $200m worldwide total.
  18. My ranking (from most satisfying to least): Man of Steel Aquaman Shazam! The Flash The Suicide Squad Birds of Prey Wonder Woman Wonder Woman 1984 Black Adam Shazam: Fury of the Gods Batman v Superman Justice League Can't rank the following two because I've never watched them properly: Suicide Squad ZSJL
  19. I am happy about this announcement, but Dunk and Egg are set decades after the events of House of the Dragon. The latter is supposed to run for another 3 seasons, so will not end sooner than 2026/2027. Are they going to wait until then to release this? I can't imagine them doing two Targaryen-related stories set in different eras running in parallel.
  20. The notion that they wouldn't have agreed to appear in a Cursed Child adaptation has no factual basis. If they were so against Rowling, why did they agree to participate in the celebration of her book's adaptation? The Cursed Child didn't happen because Rowling didn't want it (as she has stated multiple times, and it's been hinted by other WB insiders).
  21. As a big fan of the books (and the films too), I am very excited about this, even if I didn't think I would be. Many of the naysayers will become just as excited as soon as more substantial news come out about this. The cast is going to be amazing, I am sure.
