  1. Barbie audience coming out in full force for Snow White talk is giving me flashbacks to TGM audience will come out for Mi7 or Indy 5 will be the TGM light.
  2. I thought it was a weak movie as well. I guess never underestimate date night for the latest horror movie and teens who have nothing to do.
  3. https://deadline.com/2023/04/biggest-box-office-bombs-2022-lowest-grossing-movies-1235325138/
  4. It was a straight forward drama IMO. My guess is the crowd was just your average person who goes to work everyday and church on Sunday. I think the word is out in church going circles that this is a movie they should see. I think its that simple.
  5. I also saw SOF. My Cinemark showing was almost sold out, just the front row was empty (probably a 50 seat auditorium). The crowd was older (average age 50ish) and white. Last time, I saw a movie with this type of crowd was Hacksaw Ridge. I thought the movie was okay, kinda of a bore but leaving the theater I saw some people in tears.
  6. 4.)Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Dis) 3,865 (-735) theaters, Fri $3.3M (-57%) 3-day $11.4M (-58%)/Total $144.7M/Wk 3 If Deadline isn't lowballing...that's really bad with next weekend coming
  7. What do studios take away from the box office so far this year? Gen X and older millennials are going less to the theater or are just extremely picky what they'll see. Gen Z doesn't care about theaters unless its a Tik Tok/Meme that they can be a part of or make it about themselves. I have a feeling next weekend will be ALOT of Tik Toks with people dressed all in pink but once inside they'll be on their phone watching Tik Toks instead of the movie. Mario and Barbie will be the 2 biggest movies of the year. So, find more IPs that cross over multiple generations to make movies of....
  8. GOTG3 making 30 million < GOTG2. TLM making 50 million < Aladdin. Spider-verse at the moment seems like the only true win of the summer. A business with increase expenses, increase ticket prices yet revenue isn't matching 2017 and 2019 seems like a failing business model. I'm probably wrong and I hope I'm wrong.
  9. Every few months we have a movie that covers up the box office warts.....TGM, Avatar 2, Mario and soon Barbie. March 2023 had opening weekends of 30 million plus that made headlines but the total gross was $638 million. $638 million is 2009 numbers. The summer box office is down 200 million plus vs 2022 if Box Office Mojo is correct. Barbie is going to cover the summer warts. The summer movie season should be packed with new releases so I don't buy the to many movies excuse. I don't want to be doom and gloom but the pattern seems to be happening. It takes a lot to get people to the theater. What's the 30th highest grossing movie this year vs 2018 or 2019? The box office is being saved every few months by movies entering the top 20 highest grossing Domestic movies of all time. The tracking tread has ATP. The ATP is is what 25% higher vs just 3 1/2 years ago? Yet, revenue is still down 25% from 3 1/2 years ago. I'm going to assume movie theater expenses are at least 25% higher. I don't have a solution to fix the problem but maybe this is just the new reality.
  10. SMH, Everything is a conspiracy to these people. They'll say they are open minded but conspiracy people are closed minded. They "do the research" to come to conclusion that fits whatever they think is the "truth".
  11. $1M+ CLUB: TUESDAY 1. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ($7M) 2. SOUND OF FREEDOM ($4M) 3. INSIDIOUS ($3.4M) 3. INDY ($3.4M) 5. ELEMENTAL ($2M) 6. SPIDER-MAN ($1.5M)
  12. We have had disappointing weekend after disappointing weekend this summer and I'd expect the same this weekend. But, like a volcano erupting we finally get to what feels like the Main Event....Barbie-Oppenheimer. These two movies are going to knee capped all the other movies but will save the summer box office.
  13. The Insidious drop looks like a normal drop for a horror movie during the summer compared to recent summer horror movies. Nope 56% drop Black Phone 48% Boogeyman 56%
  14. I never even heard of it until Deadline's article saying that it had 7 million in pre sales a couple weeks ago. I also, didn't know Caviezel was deep in the QANON rabbit hole. This movie and it's star are so far outside of shit I follow or keep up with that I'm definitely not the target audience. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and saw this movie yesterday afternoon. It was okay. It's kinda like a dark Lifetime movie with a bigger budget. It's slow paced, dialogue is cliché, and I don't care if a movie is slow if I invested in the story but I really wasn't. I got the message sex trafficking is happening spread the word. The subject is important I just wish it was in a better movie.
  15. This "pay it forward" thing explains what I saw yesterday at the theater. At my Cinemark, Sound of Freedom had 10 showtimes yesterday and almost everyone was sold out online. We saw a 3:30pm showing of Elemental (the movie was good) on the way to the showing I walked into the Sound of Freedom auditorium and their we like 15-20 people watching the movie in a 50 seat auditorium yet online it was sold out. Anyone, who works at a theater and notice the same thing?
  16. hmm, If i'm remembering right she loved The Flash and hated Mario. But, after seeing the movie I kinda feel the same as her. The movie is okay. It felt soulless (not sure if thats the right word) like something was missing. The wit and charm of the first 3 were missing IMO. It didn't feel like it earned the ending. Hmmm, i love the first 3 movies and this was better than Crystal Skull but not much better.
  17. From Indiewire. This weekend is about $110 million (pending Sunday results — the order for the Top 10 looks correct, but some of the estimates might be a bit high). It is the second-worst June weekend in 20 years by a considerable margin (excluding 2020-2021). In 2019, the last normal year, the weekend grossed $164 million.
  18. Didn't you bet your account that The Flash would have an opening weekend above Transformers Rise of the Beast?
  19. That Flash number is impressive just how bad it is. Imax screens are going to be a ghost town this weekend. The Flash could be the biggest bomb of all time.
  20. I don't remember much at 5 so your Dad remembering seeing it like it happened yesterday as a 5 year old is crazy. I do remember Batman 89 and Batman Returns being on cable ALL the time in the mid 90s.
  21. The Super Bowl commercial, all the fan screenings, the insane number of commercials for The Flash during the NBA playoffs....all of this to open around Black Adam numbers. It seems like this will be an epic fail by WB trying to manufacture hype.
  22. If someone did a man on the street type interview and asked a 100 random people do you know who Ezra Miller is? How many say yes? 5? 10?
