  1. This just isn't true. Barbie is a very sympathetic film about male pressures. I think that really helped its success. Ken is a very sympathetic character.
  2. I think its just really poor direction. Somehow everyones acting is stilted in Eternals. Feels like it might have been a weird set.
  3. This is also a thing I don't get though. People are acting like this is a deep MCU film suddenly. Its not. Its a fucking comedy spoof of superhero films with an underlying good film to back it up.
  4. Its still an R rated film and will be held down by that. I see nothing that will boost it beyond DP2. It'll be one of those (many) films with high interactions but average results. I still think matching DP2 is a big strike.
  5. I think its well over-egged by people on here but then I was in the Avatar missed the boat crowd so we'll see. But personally I think DP3 probably matches DP2 or falls short with a high 600M - which is still good.
  6. I think Joker will pip it. But also I think we don't have any billion dollar films next year.
  7. Its a wider female problem with their writing. It should not be a surprise that a fan favourite was Wanda and she did have a romantic/sexual storyline. What are women 25+ connecting to with The Marvels where Monica is a nobody whose defined by her job; a teenager who is written much younger than she is supposed to be; and Captain Marvel who despite being a human female from Earth acts disconnected from everything. These aren't real women and their not empowering. Meanwhile the men... Iron Man - Sex and romance Captain America - Some sex mostly romance and some jokes about the lack of sex Thor - SEX AND ROMANCE GotG - SEX AND ROMANCE Woman superhero? Can't have sex and romance that pigeon holes her. Even Ant Man is getting some.
  8. Your talking about a billion dollar plus slate cost wise. A film which right now is going to be a multi million loss. I agree Star Wars is different (the error was Disney trying to make it the MCU) but Disney will have to make changes after this and the delays we are seeing. I think we see Avengers delayed to protect the brand. If am Marvel and can do what I want (spoilers they can’t, they need to negotiate contracts/time) my slate would be: Thunderbolts (merged with Cap) Fantastic Four Doctor Strange 3 Spider-Man 4 X-Men (featuring Deadpool) Avengers (Single film) That is a very strong line up imo. I think it’s a mistake (however they actually perform) to sign up to a 600M budget two part Avengers story without testing out the characters more. Also can’t help adding your moaning about arm chair analysts on an Internet forum discussing business results. Lack of awareness there.
  9. The reason for this stuff is because some over hype as well. I don’t think anyone expect The Marvels to be a mega hit, and all signs were a bomb since tracking began. DP3 will do well but I keep seeing people online setting it up for a loss with ridiculous expectations.
  10. It’s eye rolling, people act like the actors are toys on a rack. And that audiences just turn up for them no matter what which is not the case.
  11. Potential billion dollar loss year honestly. Which is the danger of these universes when the budgets balloon.
  12. Considering the weakness of the concept/lead I would be looking at merging this with thunderbolts.
  13. Pre production on this movie was planned when 200-250M was a respectable budget for MCU. I don’t think reshoots are always a terrible thing but Disney are getting a bad trend of expensive reshoots for expensive films. In the short term k think they need to start cutting their losses and focus future production on lower initial budgets.
  14. I want more Shang Chi but the answer to MCU woes it not to stuff characters into things. That’s a sure way to fire burn the brand.
  15. Am insane or is this suggesting Captain Marvels felt costume is…CG in significant scenes?
  16. Not really for this thread but I would have more confidence in Aqua 2 if they were bothering to push it. The Marvels is dying due to disinterest.
  17. The issue is I think the GA don't see CBMs as 'CBMs' - I maintain GotG is not a superhero film and that helped it. BP2 had its dead lead thing but it was also one of the best receptions for the first film so good will fed in. I think outside Avengers these are all treated by the public as different franchises. GA would not blink if Batman turned up in Avengers.
  18. Big issue for Disney is really 2024. Cap could be a difficult one, Thrunderbolts is a bit of a rogue element. Thats a huge amount of money currently spinning on the table. Next three/four years for the MCU is a multi billion dollar investment. As a concept the MCU can have dud films which breakeven or make small losses, but they cannot have the scale of losses this is going to drive. Leadership decisions will be based on confidence in the future, not the past.
  19. I think she should absolutely get a season 2 of her show but if the character is not working they can't afford the dead weight.
  20. The user was talking about the character. The actress is not coming back in a role if that role is not working.
  21. I know there was a conversation around bringing back RDJ/CEs and I stated that they would burn good will if their not brought back properly but marketed that way. And I have just been reminded of the mess of the Guardians in Thor 4. Want to share.
  22. The longer they hold back Doom the more likely hes going to be a D+ villain.
