  1. And don’t forget Civil War, a true Oscar contender from what’s I could read recently
  2. I mean this is true not only about animated movies, that’s why we have too many sequels coming out this year. Sequels became like a safer investment for studios.
  3. Internationally between 80M and 90M, Chinese release this weekend is projected to make ~20M
  4. If Sony release them using the right strategy they together can easily top any box office weekend against any movie coming out this year. We are basically talking about a 10 billion franchise.
  5. lol Some people get me wrong cuz I’m always trying to be realistic. But I really love Dune, the first and the second one even more. Denis is highly influenced by French cinema and in one of his interviews he basically said he holds a Deleuzian view of cinema. Dune is arguably the greatest representation of Deleuzian cinema ever produced. People should just understand this kind of cinema is not for everyone’s taste. The fact that Dune is hitting 200M domestically should be seen as a great win. But when some people start talking about 1 billion/ 300M+ this just sets others for disappointment.
  6. that is very much true. It deserves every praise, and Oscar nominations should be higher than in 2022, specially because it seems there are not many high profile movies coming out this year, right now only Civil War seems to be the one that can face Dune in the Oscars (unless we have a big surprise till the end of the year). I watched Dune Part Two in an IMAX dual Laser location. During the movie I kinda had a malaise. It’s a really strong movie. It’s in my top three best post pandemic movies along with Oppenheimer and my favorite one Killers of the Flower Moon.
  7. 24M Saturday (a 100% increase from Friday)… haven’t you laughed as well? Lol
  8. People seem to be loving it, specially kids. Reviews are at 70% on rotten tomatoes, meaning it is a good movie, although nothing specially great
  9. wow So those optimistic projections at 60M seem possible now, right? really impressive !!!
  10. it won’t, it will lose even more locations next week. Just because there’ll be no blockbuster release doesn’t mean there’ll be no movie releasing! OL will end lower than 90M this weekend so how do you think it could make 10M in 7 days lol
  11. Charlie said it was it was 19.25M This would mean 15.5M pure Friday. maybe 22M on Saturday? Closer and closer to the 60M projections
  12. I’m not into wars, archive is available to everyone (and I was not talking about you)
  13. everything depends on how big is Po’s jump this Saturday. At this point I don’t think this is impossible.
  14. so you’re missing this forum for some weeks I guess lol, some people even called out @Shawn Robbins cuz his first projection was basically like “Calm down, Dune won’t be making a 100M OW”, and he turned out to be right. However, some weeks ago some people were overhyped after some news saying that “rival studios” were seeing Dune making 1 billion. Shawn was the first one (or at least one of them) to bring down to earth those crazy expectations. Some people (not only on this forum) got upset because he was not even considering 100M as a possibility. Who? I won’t be exposing anyone. Tracking is a really hard thing to do, people who this for love deserve every praise. Sometimes you get it right some times you don’t. And this is ok.
  15. I mean 100M (by the usual optimistic ones) + 65M (by WB) / 2 = 82.5 it was written in the desert stars lol
  16. yeah… as well as some trackers projected it to make “possibly” 100M+. It ended up in between though.
  17. Unless you’re utterly optimistic, 300M was never a real possibility to Dune table. The only guys I’ve seen trying to suggest Dune could make 300M+ domestically and over 50M this weekend are the same guys who 3 weeks ago were arguing that Dune could make 100M+ OW and 1 billion worldwide. So…
  18. wow 18.5M pure Friday??? Panda then have a real chance to get close to those 60M+ 😱
  19. Given the optimism coming from the industry projections, Kung Fu Panda 4 got almost 150 new locations. King fu Panda will be released in 4035 locations. A blockbuster release level that can allow Panda to live up the most optimistic estimates which are right now at 60M+ opening weekend. Be ready for what may be the greatest walk ups for any movie in a long long time.
  20. it’s not about opening day, it’s about how go it is doing for the weekend plus family walk ups speciation. Here in the NY pre sales had an amazing boost over the past couple of days. On Saturday it’ll make over 20M. That said, I also think 56M is a bit of a stretch. Yet around 50M is a real possibility.
  21. it is not only you, this good and continues growth for Ghostbuster is also been reported by @TheFlatLannister and @abracadabra1998. Here in NY some theaters with PLFs halls have screenings almost sold out.
