Lol...I signed in for the sole reason to like this post, ha.  Just saw it b/c I was a big fan of the Evil Dead remake. Was really entertaining as a thriller type movie. Def not scary to me, but some suspenseful parts for sure.  Some of the tracking shots and camera work was well done.  Pretty much it's a movie that is well made, will thrill the avg. movie goer and I'm happy it's doing well.  For me, I'm a lil disappointed because it was not scary at all, and I always hope I'll get freaked out by something on the screen.  Im happy to see alvarez go into more of a thriller direction and have success because he's a really good director, but from some of the reviews I glanced at I was expecting a little scarier.

    7.5/10

ps....now that i think about it some more reminds me a lot of Panic Room

Seems like the purpose is to create a 'safe space' for DC fans ;)

Whatever, there are no comic book movies for a few months so forum will die down for a while...

Nah, it's actually just to keep peeps like you and filmbuff ( who liked your post, shocking) on track and to discuss the numbers instead of just repeating your hatred towards DC and their movies, which sometimes you cleverly disguise.  It's really not that damn hard.  Marvel/DC thread, it's that way, go to it - Have fun.

  3. It is absolutely hilarious though...maybe im repeating someone else, but like, I swear 6 months ago, SS, to just make 90 m opening weekend would be f'ing huuuuge.  Now that it made 130 ow- it obviously adjust things and people are surprised it drops so quick.  Like really, all of us a year ago were not even close to a 130 million ow.  People would laugh their asses off at that.  So, it did that, now of course its going to have a massive drop.  Leg wise doesn't look great but holy crap SS made 130 m ow....that's f'ing huge.  DC is f'ing fine.

Just awaiting futurist or filmbuff to come in with some garbage about how amazing marvel is

  4. So I've actually followed a lot of this weekends thread.  Pretty entertaining but obviously the same shit rises up.  IMO, there's really 4 or 5 people who stir marvel/dc shit up and honestly its really easy to see.  If baumer, tele, cjohn and the rest of the mods really wanted to end a lot of the poisoning...they could because its f'ing obvious.  You ban them, boom, site becomes a 100x more tolerable. Like it's painfully obvious reading through these weekend threads who the pieces of shit are- excuse my language but...IT is obvious.

  5. Checked it out. Agree with some of the pros/cons from dajk's little snippet.  I had a good time, there was some pretty awesome action sequences.  I particularly liked the part where kirk and chekov go back to the enterprise, along with the attack on the enterprise early on.  There's lots of gravity defying scenes in this which I always like to see.  But, idk, it's not going to be a memorable movie for me.  Besides the fact I really like all the characters/acting and their interactions, and the action was solid the story/script just wasn't quite there for me...I just didn't give a f in the end.  Still a solid movie. I'd give it an 8/10 or so , def behind ST09 and prob right around into darkness.

  6. Wasn't planning to check this out, quite a few movies I've missed in the last few months that I wanted to see more, but got done with a nasty week and was like F it...checked for a late time, flew out the door and done.  Trailers were pretty solid, and enjoy ocean/shark/surfer stuff because, well I've pretty much lived by the beach my whole life.  Movie was awesome.  I really enjoyed it.  The cinematography was legit - some of the underwater and just great ocean/wave shots did enough for me.  Blake, who I think has done a good job in some things before but also a not so good job in other things was really solid.  It had just enough back story to get you to care for the character, but the main point was the duel.  The shark looked great and boy was it a beast and an asshole.  I mean there wasn't really one shot that I can recall that was like oh, that's Deep Blue Sea CGI shit right there.  There was quite a few times I was kind of on the edge of my seat - and I usually don't get scared of shark stuff - but a few parts were just well done.  Overall, pretty happy I went to check it out.  I might even be a little skittish going out tomorrow.   8.5/10

  7. Matrix at #1 is a brilliant pick.  IDK exactly where it would go if I made a list but I know it'd at least be top 5 - in most important and my favorite films ever.  The feeling I had walking out of the Matrix for the first time...pretty indescribable.  There has definitely been other films through my life where you just get that pumped up feeling, and are grinning ear to ear after seeing something amazing but nothing was quite like the Matrix feelings I got.  Never forget them.  Mind blowing movie and it holds up incredibly well after seeing it and Reloaded (yes, I liked it a lot) prob around a 100 times each.

  8. haven't read thru all the pages yet but eh pulp eh.  It's a damn good movie...I like some other QTs better though, especially Inglorious Basterds.  But pretty much any QT movie is cool with me because he writes scripts like no one else.  I'm an action junkie and even if there's barely any action going on in a QT movie...it still keeps my attention.

IM3 actually held better over the weekend than CW did. The difference between the two OW wise will be of around 4m, despite the fact that CW's opening day was with 6.5m bigger than IM3's.

It's really f'ing sad im3 made as much as it did....Just got back from CW and it's 1000x better than that garbage

But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman. They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man — not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?”

    Zack Snyder

Blank Man has a sequel, with a tentpole slot.

Any news about Superman s sequel Zack ?

    Karma is a B.

lol, the dude is still directing Justice League after all this hoopla and you're calling out karma

I thought Drive was great but Only God Forgives wasn't. Pusher was ok but Bronson is his masterpiece. I still don't know how i feel about Valhala Rising.

One thing is for sure, every Refn film is a must see from an aesthetic point at least. Can't wait for this one.

Agree all around pretty much - Drive was great and that soundtrack!  Still put it on sometimes and it just gives me good vibes.  Only God Forgives had me entertained but it just wasn't that good. Pusher, meh.  Bronson was solid and valhalla was just like wtf.  Will def check this out, and it has keanu in it, and I pretty much see all keanu movies...cuz he's the man.

double post , shit. I kind of just want to have a podcast where tele and baumer just debate why one of them loves a certain movie and the other hates it...would be pretty hilarious.

ok tele, this is true but its really hard to watch baseball in april.  The playoff race may come down to a game or two but when you play 162, damn, ridiculous.  Here's to NBA playoffs and the spurs ... even tho i know it's a lost cause

There isn't such a thing as a Snyder's Justice League film anymore. They had the opportunity to plug that on Conan yesterday and instead it was one of the most weird talk shows ever, with the actors regurgitating the same stories they did on Kimmell and Fallon. Snyder isn't directing Justice League anymore, if they needed any reasons whatsoever to drop him, this is it. Not just the dom numbers, the China, UK, and Australia numbers and hell everywhere else. Sincerely not sure if it gets that far away from $800m. I'm not completely sure if it'd gross more than Deadpool if both hadn't China either.

It'd be nice if just for once you stop acting like you know all this shit...you don't know anything about what's actually going on at WB...just more ijack fantasies - shocking.  Bad drop though.

  16. Haven't been in a weekend thread for awhile, forgot how damn hard it is to keep up with these monster threads. Full time job I swear.  Anywhoo, went to see it again (unplanned) with my cousins (both late 30s) and saw it with my 'rents (60s) last night - none big comic fans.  Everyone of them liked it.  I mentioned to my cousin what he thought of the editing and plot and if he thought the middle parts of the movie were messy/jumpy and he surprisingly liked all the different story lines and how they came together.

Saw it in San Diego and theatre was full besides first two rows of mostly adults from what I could tell.  Second time around was better than the first - I'm digging this movie, prob 8.75/10 but I was a MoS fan so that's not shocking.

Wow, I must be really desensitized then.  I didn't find any of those other scenes difficult to watch at all.  I guess that says more about the films I have seen though.

I feel I'm pretty desensitized having seen movies like Martyrs or august underground but something about this just captured the realism of it all, just to survive.  I really felt like I was out there.  Maybe that's why it felt so intense.  That bear scene.  My God.  Just brutal.  Just the whole way of life out there was just crazy.  Add in the soundtrack, great acting, and amazing camera work and it got me.  I gotta see it again, but for me it was one of the more immersive experiences on film.  I loved it.

  18. Unbelievable....f'ing amazing.  For me this was so intense, probably one of if not the most intense movies I've ever watched (and I've seen a good amount of nasty horror/thrillers).   The cinematography as mentioned by so many was amazing - the weaving, long shots throughout a battle or an upcoming danger...the just gorgeous, yet so dangerous environment captured perfectly .   Direction, amazing.  Soundtrack, bravo.   Dicaprio was flawless, I mean I felt his pain.  I said to my buddy after, I really didn't feel I was watching dicaprio, I was watching some poor dude in the early 1800s.  He was great.  Hardy was awesome also.  Both of these guys should be nominated.  I just loved it, but it is a hard watch.  Really brutal, savage, and just a beat you down film.  I've gotta see it again...and I couldn't care less if inarritu is an egotistical ass in real life...he just entertained the hell out of me
