  1. Man, the hate toward X3.. I mean, is the movie really THAT bad or was this a case of coming off the excellence of X2, That expectations were just too high??? I mean, the only thing I scoffed at with the movie was how Jean Grey and Phoenix were handled, but other than that, it was action packed I thought..

Wasn't as bad as the jump from IM1 to IM2…or the grand canyon sized jump of quality from the avengers to the joke that is IM3…just saying i agree

  2. I can't concentrate on numbers. My two little dogs escaped today and I've been out looking for them. Only problem is they got out of the house middle of the day, and we didn't find out until the evening. Tomorrow's agenda: visit local shelters, prowl the area, and (I guess) make "Missing" signs. :(

uhhh. That's rough man.  Any true dog lovers know how much of the family they become.  Really hope you find the little guys, positive thoughts/vibes being sent your way.  GL

As for Neighbors-not surprised at all at those numbers. Some comedies just have that perfect vibe that you know will hit with high schoolers, college kids, all the way up through people in their 30s to even 40s.  I always thought it might break out in a way similar to the first Hangover- my 47m prediction is looking pretty solid.

  3. It's not a matter of the genre dying - though that will happen eventually (it's all cyclical). It's silly to expect it to die out within two decades, when it's really only reached its current height less than a decade ago. I'm speaking of certain characters getting worn out. What happens with the 6th (or 7th or whatever) Iron Man movie, when RDJ steps down? Are you confident that it won't experience a TASM-like drop?

Oh god save me if anymore iron man movies come out.  The 3rd was the biggest sell on what just happened for the avengers. That movie sucked ass. So bad. I mean I still give it a 7 cuz it was entertaining but all I have to say is Guy Pearce shooting fire balls and Gwyneth paltrow saving the day.  Feel really good about that marvel fanboys.  Cap 2 was great. But lets see what DC has in store, I think its going to be amazing, but that's just me.  And yes I did like MoS a lot.

  4. Captain America fans have nothing to feel bad about really. Barring some disastrous holds it's going to beat Thor 2, which is a big accomplishment seeing as how I'd say Thor/Loki were far more liked and impacting in TA over Cap. OS is a massive improvement over the first one. They also got a movie that got rave reviews and most fans seem to love. 60%+ drop or not this weekend, TWS has an impressive showing.

I agree…and lets be honest here. Isn't the point is if it was well liked and received by most of the fans?  I mean, a movie called "Captain America" might be a hard sell in some areas around the world for basic reasons that we all might like to ignore but they're there.  The movie is doing amazing…I don't think huge marvel fanboys or cap fanboys should be disappointed.  Pretty much everyone I've seen it with thought it was a really fun/good movie, me included, and it'll hang around for awhile.  Cap2 is doing great. geez people.

  5. Agreed. What sort of shit is this "it's all about Avengers 2"? Way to throw Cap and GOTG under the bus. Talk about a fair-weather fan.

bro, he's a marvel fanboy obviously but he really is more of only a avenger fanboy- he ultimately champions "Avengers" because that's what shut everyone else up to him and won him his war against like batman fans i guess. So he really doesn't give a f about the singular movies whether they're awesome or not-he'll just say "TA2, thats what everyones been waiting for…its going to break box office records and kill everything". BKB in a nutshell for the next year

  6. damn, Telemachos, a LOT of movies I would put and love are on your list-well done!

Zohan, one of the funniest sandler movies ever, scratch that, one of my favorite comedies ever-I think for this movie you have to really allow yourself to laugh at dumb/cornball comedy or you'll hate it, cuz I've met a few people who when I say it's hilarious think I'm on crack…holy shit turturro is comedy gold-phantom haha

Dark Blue/Narc and Ill add in Street Kings- All pretty good corrupt cop movies, I love the genre.  Street Kings has an early Evans and a surprisingly energetic/badass keanu in it.  Narc had great performances by patric and liotta, and yea can't go wrong with Snake.

Reign of Fire- love the setting, love how grimy and badass Mcconaughey is, just one of those action movies Ill always watch when I'm flipping around and find it.

The Grey- love survival movies, love adventure/outdoorsy movies.  Add in some good characters in addition to liam and that ending. good stuff

Mothman- creeped me the f out and if I remember correctly gave me some restless nights after I first saw it

Ill have to think of some more to add of my own-and will have to watch Southland Tales which I was always tempted to rent but couldn't bring myself to do it

  7. I find Event Horizon to not be a good movie yet somehow it always sucks me in. And I know I saw Mortal Kombat but don't remember much. And I haven't seen any Resident Evil movies and that's alright alright alright

I was amazed find out the W.S. directed Event Horizon-it's not really a movie I'd peg as his style.  But holy shit, saw that movie for the first time when I was 11/12 isn and had a very active mind…lets just say I had nightmares for many nights-movie scared me to death.  I actually like a few of his movies - maybe a bit of a guilty pleasure - soldier, a few of the RE movies (1, 3), heck even mortal Kombat and AvP I had a "this movie is not that good but i'm pretty entertained and having fun" type of vibe.   Recently though, it's been not even fun- just bad.

  8. TLR will probably make more money than Ronin.  So if it's a massive flop, then so is Ronin.

Oh yeah, I know I figure TLR will do more but TLR had a larger budget right? 300m to 220m...or something like that, not positive.  Baumer what do you think Ronin will end up doing domestically after that CD?  Prob hard to know really till after the weekend numbers

And good god TLR was bad imo-going to see Ronin in the next few days-I don't think there's any way I could like it less than TLR-tho reviews have been pretty brutal haa

  9. FROZEN will hit above $260M but will miss $300M.

How many movies have the potential to hit $300M this year

    but miss it?

IMO Man of Steel would've easily crossed 300m if WB flipped the opening with Pac Rim.  The competition in the weeks after Pac Rim was pretty ho hum compared to what Man of Steel faced the weeks after its release.

As for the new releases-Im laughing thinking of the elderly people going into Wolf and totally getting blindsided by the huge 3 hour hardcore party flick they got themselves into.  Im secretly rooting for Ronin (keanu fan) and Im glad it didn't absolutely flop-though it's going to lose a lot of money at least it can hopefully stay away form bomb of the year - Lone Ranger and RIPD

  10. So I guess the question is now: Does ANCHORMAN 2 warrant a What Went Wrong thread or it too soon for that??? Never thought I'd asking this question for a movie like this that seemed such a shoe in.. Congrats to Dexter if this should fall flat..

B-don't give up yet bro.  I have confidence this can do pretty damn well this weekend...obviously not as well as your absurd predictions but damn well.  I still see this having a very good take over the holidays
