The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Protesting how terrible JL is and demanding refunds, amiright -

At this point it doesn't matter, I resigned myself yesterday this would disappoint (domestically anyway). Clearly the public doesn't care and Warner likely just wants to move on from the Snyder era. Yes, I know I've said this before, but it's worth stating again. -

But that won't maximize revenue for the theater. BTW, here matinee prices are only $5.25. After 5 or 6 (can't remember when), it's $8.00. -

And yet for w/e reason people will still buy at the same prices as the other rows. Wouldn't surprise me with the rise of reserved seating if there will be tier pricing (i.e. more expensive for the middle center seats that usually sell out first on big releases) -

I know at my theater I would refuse to sit in the front row. Heck, the third and fourth rows for me was too close when I saw Logan. I have to be at least five rows and above to comfortable. -

But even The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had a pretty good increase, in terms of OW, over the previous (62M vs 91.6M). In fact, adjusted for ticket inflation, Amazing Spider-Man 2 is $98M. If JL goes to around that, that's beyond disappointment to be on that level. -

If that's the case, it's clear Thor took any thunder for the GA's appetite for a superhero movie. There's only so much disposable income and they might decide that they'd rather save it for Star Wars next month. Oh, and at this point wouldn't surprise me to see a sub $100M OW. -

Based on that, looks more and more likely for around $105M. Oh well. -

Biased hate? Lol, I'm one of the few who has generally liked all of the DCEU movies, even Suicide Squad, though my feelings on that one has waned with each viewing. If I have any hate, it's toward the studio and their mandated 2 hr running time. If that was Whedon's decision to make a more streamlined film, fine, but it was done for financial reasons. -

Yes, but independent trackers were near $100M, this time both are on the same page. -

Well, they didn't get the message when meddling with BvS so why would things change after this? They'll just find another excuse as to why it under performed. -

That's... not good if it holds. If you would've told me the third Thor movie would make more on its OW I would think you'd be crazy. -

Has anyone actually examined how these numbers translate to the OW? -

Yeah, I noticed that even with Wonder Woman at my theater. Not very many sell outs with the 3D showings vs. 2D which just about every one was selling out late Friday through Sunday. -

We'll see if sales bare that out. Should be interesting. -

Personally, the only way I see walk-ups being better is if people feel this is more family friendly. BvS being so dark and Suicide Squad having, well, the name Suicide in the title (not to mention Harley Quinn), might've turned off some families taking their kids 10 and under. Of course, by the same token, some didn't have a problem taking their kids to an R-rated Deadpool so who knows. -

Unless sales picks up next week, which it could, at this point I'm wondering if it'll get to $100M. As I said, the Thursday sales aren't fantastic, if I wanted to, I could still get a good seat at 6:30 or 7 (I'm going Friday morning as that time works better for me). BTW, I just checked, and the first 2D showing for JL on Friday morning... I whopping 3 tickets sold including mine. The other two have been sold for a few days now. The first showing of the day (3D), none sold. Even it being a standard weekday, I would think there would've been more activity. Edit: On the plus side, looking at the 7:40pm showing on Friday, probably a good 50% sold...
