The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
TheMovieman replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
Sales here are alright I guess but nothing exceptional (still some okay seats left in the first showing which normally would be close to or already sold out by now). Thinking maybe $110M tops. Not sure if BvS hurt it, maybe Thor took the steam out and now people rather spend money on Star Wars in December and skip JL altogether. Stinks as it is looking likely this won't sniff even Suicide Squad. -
Hated just about everything about this movie, far too slow for my liking with absolutely zero suspense and one-dimensional characters. Just all in all disappointed since I like Sofia Coppola. *½/*****, (D, 3.2/10, 1/4)

I normally don't care about a writer's credits as normally several are involved with these projects, often uncredited, but his hiring doesn't exactly evoke confidence, but who knows. It's a first draft and I'm sure someone else will come in and do another run at it since this isn't going to come out, if at all, for another 5+ years I suspect given The Rock's schedule and the studio seeing how Shazam does.

Shazam! | April 5, 2019 | 21st Most Profitable Film of 2019

Never thought about him, but seems to be a nice pick. After seeing Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation (far better than it deserved to be), I have some trust in Sandberg. FYI: If you anyone picks up the Annabelle: Creation Blu-ray, check out the 42-minute featurette showing Sandberg's directing style (interaction with the actors, etc). Really worthy watching. -
Incredibly unfunny throughout. Didn't care for the characters and Tiffany Haddish, who has gotten a lot of praise, was absolutely obnoxious. */*****, (F, 2.0/10, 1/4)

IDK, other than Shazam, DC doesn't exactly have anything else ready. But maybe they want to get The Batman and Wonder Woman 2 done before diving into a story like Flashpoint. Of course, if Affleck is gone, Flashpoint coming before The Batman might be beneficial... Anyway, hopefully Zemeckis gets the gig. As for the writer, I think we focus too much on that. Something tells me King Arthur's script was tinkered with by not only Ritchie but by the studio. Who knows how many uncredited writers were on that project.

The only other one that could go into production would be Justice League Dark. Someone like Joe Carnahan would probably work. OTOH, they recently hired a writer to re-write the script as the studio weren't satisfied with what a couple directors pitched. I think Warner is going to wait for Zemeckis for The Flash; Reeves will get all the time he wants to get a script for The Batman (and eventually re-casting) and I can't see that going into production in time for a 2019 release, but I suppose it could happen depending on how far along they are with the script.

IDK, seems to be a solid resume. Pride and Glory was fine but it's been many years since I saw it and any problems Jane Got a Gun had wasn't his fault since he was brought in literally the day after the original director left. Oh, and Warrior and The Accountant were damn good movies, one person brought up The Accountant was basically like a superhero movie, dark origin and all.

Phoenix Forgotten (2017)
TheMovieman replied to Plain Old Tele's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
I hate found footage movies so this had one strike going against it from the get-go, add in an utterly dull hour plus and an ending that doesn't justify sitting through the entire thing. */*****, (F, 2.1/10, 0.5/4)- 1 reply

Shazam! | April 5, 2019 | 21st Most Profitable Film of 2019

Seems like Superman will be in more of these solo movies that's not his own. Umberto teased in his twitter account of The Flash and Superman racing so either we get a scene of the two racing in Justice League or, more likely, he's going to be a part, perhaps big, in Flashpoint. -
No hovering for me, I hated this movie. Was in utter pain during the last hour or so. Got tired/annoyed with the fish bowl-like camera lens and very much had a seen this before with To the Wonder which also was awful. Lots of twirling around, jumping on beds, walking down suburban streets, etc. Only 'good' thing I can say is the performances were all bad, but my god I had a tough time sitting through this dreck. ½*/*****, (F, 1.1/10, 0.5/4)

Eh, I can't stand the commercials. Just comes across as hokey and trying way too hard to get award recognition. -

You mean quoting me before it was known he wasn't going to be in Shazam? -
The Circle (2017)
TheMovieman replied to Ezen Baklattan's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Takes itself way too serious but unintentional hilarious. Could've been good, with an interesting message, if handled well, but it wasn't. *½/*****, (D, 3.0/10, 1.25/4)
