Looking like Kathleen Kennedy will have produced 3 of the top 5 single runs of all time. Incredible.

"Let's hurry up with that Green Lantern movie, it's basically the same thing as Star Wars right" - some WB exec

Meanwhile Disney has GOTG2 in the wings.

$1 billion and it beats Star Wars' original 1977 run of $215m

This is the most relevant Avatar has ever been on these boards.

It broke the 6-day record already. It has a shot at the 8-day record tomorrow, and that's with a Tuesday vs a Friday for the other movies.

So if it somehow comes out above $41M, is this a more legendary Monday than TDK?
That would be on par with the Memorial Day record, so yes. Definitely.

...What Sunday?
It still has the Sunday attendance record by a hair over Avengers. TFA is only 5th place after TDK, Avengers, Spider-Man 3, & The Lost World

All of TDK's records are gone. Yesterday's news @MrPink
It still has Sunday. Actually Avengers has it. Damn.
Nope still TDK.

TDK's Thursday attendance (for a Friday opener) is going to stand forever since TFA has to deal with Christmas Eve. Mon through Wed are all but locked in my estimation though.

So the drop is not too far off from Avatar which was dealing with delayed demand because of the snow.

$35m gets it the non-holiday Monday attendance record. Would have to hit 45-50 to beat SM2's holiday Monday.

Will this pass attendance of the original movies?
It has a shot at Empire & Jedi, but Menace would be a stretch.

Avatar was never the attendance king of the current era, TFA should pass it on both fronts.
Spizzer, I would only use the splits to calculate tickets since every other comparison is done with the annual average price.

I don't know why people want 250, 247 is a semiprime number, it's more stable, it will last longer.

I understand some people think it will drop less than 40% on Monday. I think if the figure lands about 60M for Sunday, that it's really hard to pull off a 30M+ on Monday. I don't think that is possible with winter breaks not in full effect yet.
...we just had a $250m weekend in December and you still have reservations about a $30m Monday?

I'd rather $247M with a $60M Sunday, with Friday going lower.

Was the east coast storm in 2009 during Avatar's OW finished by Sunday? That 3% drop is insane.
Yes roads were passable again on Sunday, that's when I saw it.

Yup, the Hobbit was probably the worst choice for a 48fps movie. It needs to be used for something like Mirror's Edge to really shine.

Facts about avatar
avatar made money because it was supposed to act as the rebirth of 3D in theaters. Avatar was a 3D showcase and made a lot of money becsuse it was made for 3D. Now that nearly everyone avoids 3D , avatar 2 will not even come close to the original because the gimmick is dying . Now when people realize the story is ok and no one cares about blue aliens the sequel will flop in comparison
I'm hardly an Avatar fan, but betting against Jim is NEVER the right call. He always finds a new way to crack the pop consciousness.
