Horrible, terrible, awful film. D+

burton's aesthetic is admirable and the songs are neat, but the storyline is insipid nonsense, overwhelmed by schmaltz by the end.

Sweet story with great visuals and music and HBC brings so much to Emily. Unfortunately it veers into gag territory a bit and Emily's back story needed better development.

I was expecting a lot more as well as I loved charlie and the chocolate factory

Funny that the director known for going style over substance in his movies made the most interesting film, story wise, in the Laika canon. HBC really brings life to Emily and the movie is well-paced at brisky 77 minutes. Humor is pretty nice as well.

 

Some more meat wouldn't have hurt, though. 75/100
