Oh by the way, i've updated the blog the other day (link is in my signature).I'll hopefully update the all time charts over the weekend too now that the top 50 for 2013 is finalised. (well there no longer any films in the top 20 that were released in 2013. )I think the last update i did was just after Iron Man 3 was released. Anyone want to take a guess what the next film will be to make into the top 50 of all time down under (as as reminder, the 50th film should be > 30m now)Contenders:Noah - Unlikely i'm seeing 10m to 15m at mostThe Lego Movie - is an outside shot but i think this will wind up around 25m.Captain America: The Winter Soldier - not likely ... targeting 15m, maybe 20m ?Divergent - i have no idea but i don't see a hunger games repeat as yet... maybe twilight ?the amazing spiderman 2 - uh ... no. 15m ?godzilla - likely not but has potential - 10m to 20m for nowxmen: dofp - not seeing it but has a chance at 20m...how to train your dragon 2 - no idea if it can reach 30m... but it's the most likely shot at the moment. 25m for nowtransformers 4 - well this one is tough.... if it dips from #3 then no... prob around 25m, but given the 2nd and 3rd films passed 30m, i wouldn't count it out as such. my prediction is right on 30m so very close.dawn of the planet of the apes - nah.. 15 to 20m ?fast 7 ? - i thought this was delayed ?there are plenty of films in teh 2nd half of the year that has potential to reach 20m, but i don't see any 30m+ potentials until the hunger games 2 arrives in november..... not a good sign if nothing else breaks out. only other film is the hobbit 3 that i can see... gonna be a weak year unless we get some big breakouts.

i haven't updated yet, but some info on how our all time top 100 is looking :)

* Highest position for a 2013 release is 19th (Catching Fire)

* only 2 films entered the top 20 films of all time (unlike 2012 which saw an impressve 4 films make the top 20 with the highest place being 3rd)

* A total of 11 films entered the top 100 from 2013, incidently the same number 2012.

* As of today, the 100th placed film is Saving Private Ryan from 1998 with 24.17m

* Top R18+/R rated film is currently just outside the top 100 (The Wolf of Wall Street is closing in on a top 100 finish)

* Top MA15+ rated film belongs to Ted with 34.5m

* Top M rated film just so happens to be our #1 film of all time anyway :)

* Top PG rated film still belongs to Shrek 2 with 50.4m

* Top G rated film is of course a pixar film.  Toy Story 3 takes that honour with 42.2m

* Our top 20 is still littered with Fantasy Films (Harry Potter & Middle Earth Films - between these series there are 8 films in our top 20)

* 4 comic book films are in the top 20 (2 Marvel and 2 DC - i'll let you guess which films :P )

* Only 2 animated films have made it into the top 20

* the original stories in the top 20 just so happen to our top 2 films of all time and both from james cameron.  well i guess it's debatable :P  Technically you could say Harry Potter 1, Lord of the Rings fit that bill also.

* Only 1 australian film remains in the top 20.  Crocodile Dundee is still amazing no matter which way you look at it.

* FOX - Biggest film is Avatar (#1 of all time)

* Disney - Biggest film is The Avengers (#3 of all time)

* Warner Brothers - Biggest film is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (#4 of all time)

* Universal or UIP - Shrek 2 gets the gong (#5 of all time)

* Roadshow - The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (#6 of all time)

* Sony - Skyfall took the honours fairly recently (#7 of all time)

* Hoyts - Crocodile Dundee (#8)

* Paramount - Transformers 2 (#18)

* UIP on it's own - Babe the gallant pig (#30)

* Universal on it's own - Despicable me 2 (#31)

* also gotta love this other little cute fact:

1. Avatar 115.32m

2. Titanic 57.65m

Avatar made exactly (within error margin) double what titanic made............. hmmmmmmm (who's been fudging again ... )

films > 60m = 1

films > 50m = 5

films > 40m = 18

films > 30m = 59

films > 25m = 92

only 7 australian films in the top 100 now.(3 of those directed by bazza :P)

biggest opening still harry potter 8 with 18m (it's gonna take a while before this is beaten i think)

biggest opening day also hp8 with 7m.

Titanic, almost 17 years old, is still number two.Some other kinds of stats:Top 10 most attended years, 2013 for comparison2002 92.5m2001 92.5m2010 92.4m2004 91.5m2009 90.7m2003 89.8m1999 88.0m2012 85.9m2011 85.0m2007 84.7m2013 81.9mTop 10 average attendance (based on the list I posted a few pages ago), 2013 for comparison2001 4.7648 (If 2001 had 2013's population, 110.2m!)2002 4.70701999 4.64972004 4.54612003 4.51362000 4.29171998 4.27552010 4.18762009 4.16461997 4.10422013 3.54072009 and 2010 are clearly exceptional in terms of recent years.I believe with 39m, 2013 has the lowest grossing number one as a percent of the total gross since 1995 (when Batman Forever made 17.9m). 1997 and 2009 are close. I'll look at that in more detail later.

actually even more impressive is crocodile dundee....

is still 8th and is some 27 years old now. ;)

i still 2014 is gonna be worse than 2013 though... there are even less chances of a serious break out (i'm talking about 40m+)  I can see a number of films have that potential for 30m, i just don't see any 40m.. maybe mockingjay part 1 if it's any good... or possibly the hobbit 3 ?

the big films in the US summer are:

xmen - not happening here

amazing spider-man 2 - again not happening

godzilla.. even if it's good.. then 30m is possible - could go below 20m easily though

how to train your dragon 2... i see at best a despicable me increase. up to around 35m.

anything else a chance ?

Yeah, all the weeks so far have been about level with 2013, which is bad when ticket prices increase like they do.There's nothing I can see that I think will really breakout, Mockingjay probably doesn't have enough room to make it to 40m and all the Summer releases seem like 30-35m films at best (Trans4mers might be the biggest of them). Not having 50m+ films isn't inherently bad as long as you've got a whole bunch of mid-size hits making up the difference. That did kinda happen last year, just not to the same extent as 2009.

Cool.  thanks RTH - i didn't think i had a final there in regards to Avatar ... still funny that avatar is basically double the 2nd film in our chart.  pretty unusual.

Yeah UIP / blah... is spread everywhere through the charts.. makes it darn confusing who's the distributor.

I knew WOWS was closing in.

As for Night at the Museum.... I have it at 102 ?

the bottom of the chart is:

95 Charlie and chocolate factory (2005) - 24.50m

96 Spider-man 2 (2004) - 24.39m

97 Man of Steel (2013) - 24.34m

98 Monsters University (2013) - 24.26m

99 Madagascar 3: Europe's Most wanted (2012) - 24.24m

100 Saving Private Ryan (1998) - 24.17m

101 Spider-man 3 (2007) - 24.02m

102 Night at the Museum (2006) - 24.02m

103 Troy (2004) - 23.70m

104 Sex and the City 2 (2010) - 23.45m

105 Twister (1996) - 23.44m

Are those figures looking ok - i will be posting the whole top 100 eventually, just working through all the updates first.

off the cuff theres slight order rearrange in that list..but i think you must have something in top100 that shouldn't be there

ok I'll double check there are doubles (always a good place to start)  I should get time to do some final reviews to make sure there are no errors in the coming days.

this might help :

the 50th film I have currently is:

50 The Hunger Games (2012) 0 32.02m

I'll get a full list up soon.  would be interesting to note where i am going wrong.

At a quick guess, I'm thinking the chart you are looking at treats Star Wars and Star Wars: Special Edition as seperate releases.???

I've got star wars in @ 61 with 29.65m.

but of course Special ed made 11.33m so that would put the original @ 18.32m meaning that star wars would not be on the chart ?

Not Suprisingly, a terrible weekend... only 2 films made > 1m and neither were openers. While i have the figures, it appears that mr peabody isn't being reported until next weekend. Not a good weekend at all.... even lower than the already low expectations.1 (2) The Monuments Men (-26%) 1.7m / 5.05m2 (PV) Mr Peabody and Shermon (N/A) 1.1m / 1.1m3 (2) Need for Speed (-41%) 950k / 2.9m4 (N) Ride Along 925k(N) Pompeii 634k(N) Cuban Fury 310k(3) Tracks 203k / 1.8m(N) I Frankenstein 183k

Actually that is possibly it there was a time it and other R/I's etc were combined they seperated

Avatar includes extended, but Titanic doesn't included 3D, ET with r/i should be around 34m,LOTR's totals don't include the extended etc etc
