Something doesn't feel right: how did Bohemian Rhapsody go from the 35K on Tuesday to the sub-18K on Wednesday? There was no new opener, so theorically it had the same number of showtimes it had on Tuesday. I'll let you know if it's a system error or if BR just went nuts.

Anyways, besides Green Book (which now has a chance to pass the 8.25M mark and enter the top 10 of the season), it's just the same wasteland.

Monster opening day for Dragon Ball! My god! 40% higher than the first Thursday of I2, more than double HTTYD3's.

It will be very frontloaded of course, as it is also sold as a 7-day only event. But it doesn't matter, the box office needed something like this, and to see a 30 years old anime being still so incredibly popular is almost touching.

 

Mediocre numbers for everything else, Green Book excluded. Happy Death Day 2U avoided a collapse, with an OD that is good for a 600/700K OW (around 35% below the first one, which opened at 988K). 10 Giorni Senza Mamma finally shows some signs of decline, due to the competition from 2 local (weak) openers.

The Mule is obviously suffering the Oscar win of Green Book, which is now the main options for those who want to see something eminent and authoritative.

The weekend is down 19% from the same weekend last year. 2019 now down 10.5% from 2018. After a solid start with Ralph and Aquaman overperforming, things has gone back to the trash can.

 

Green Book did very well. Last year, The Shape of Water managed a post-Oscar win weekend of 1.45 millions, and finished at 8.5M after adding 2 further millions. Using the same legs, Green Book will finish with a similar total. The only Italian movie in the top 10 of the season (Amici come Prima, #10 with 8.25M) will be kicked out of the top 10, leaving only Hollywood films in the chart. Great result for a movie that just came out of nowhere.

 

Awful for all openers not named Dragon Ball. Which, to be honest, did worse than expected after an enormous Thursday opening. Still very good though. The Lego Movie achieved one of the worst 2nd weekend drops in history for an animated movie opening in the weekend top 3. The Mule was hurt by Green Book getting all the attention.

 

Captain Marvel opens on Wednesday instead of Thursday, Black Panther got a 470K OD on Valentine's Day, meaning everything above 400K is fine for Carol Danvers. Of course, a breakout would really help as the state of the market is dramatic.

Oh wow. I didn't know Wonder Woman grossed that low in Italy. So maybe CM grossing €5M could be considered good.

No, it couldn't. Wonder Woman is the only example we have, and it was released at the beginning of summer (always a bad thing in Italy) and it was a DC solo movie (even Man of Steel did pretty bad in 2013). Captain Marvel has a better release date and it's a Marvel movie with some rumored connections to Endgame. I'd say sub-6M is weak, 6/7 is acceptable, 7/8 is pretty good, 9 or so is great.
