I still don’t think @cookie reviewed a single thing I wrote this year....and I’m not sure I’m torn up about it.

 

The reviews for BTS so far are really encouraging, but it’s Starlit I’m worried about.

Blue & Gold

 

Going straight up comedy with this was probably the best route to take, for every time the movie makes you go

 

 

The movie seems to agree with you, and will make fun of how silly it gets, so there's that.

 

Granted, this probably would've played better if it was a straight up kids movie rather than a PG-13 action flick since it pretty much plays like a movie for seven year olds, with the lone hint of real conflict being how the scarab is turning blue boi more violent (which, perhaps somewhat troublingly, is never really resolved within the film's running time. As soon as blue boi gets his gear back everything's dandy apparently). That in turn makes random inserts like Kevin Hart's F-bomb at the beginning all the more jarring.

 

But it's an entertaining if disposable superhero adventure film with some inventive moments (the time-skip battle in the third act is probably going to elicit its share of laughter) that has the sense not to wear out its welcome.

Most of the issues I had with the earlier drafts have been fixed which is a plus

But the bit where Mata somehow knows that Kronk is chasing after her and Kuzco despite us never having seen when she finds that out still hasn't been fixed which is a minus
