I've basically already decided the final two films will be PG-13. Oh and to keep the craze going I'm planning on one of my Oscar contenders next year being a PG-13 animation. Ezen Baklattan
CHAPTER 8: I NOW HAVE #1 @cookie August 7-9: A 'Fool' Becomes King Building on the name of Laika, and without families driving 'Amulet II' as much (which held decently), 'A Fool's Errand' managed a strong opening over industry expectations, and it will be able to be a strong counterpoint to what looks to be a slow month. The film recieved an A- Cinemascore, better than 'ParaNorman' and 'The Boxtrolls'' B+. Holds should mellow out through the month, while 'Guardian of the West' will slowly expand. Quite a slow week, but who knows if the rest of the month will pick up the pace? A Fool’s Errand - $21,671,993 (NEW) Amulet II: The Last Council - $20,825,697 (3rd week) (-45.2%) ThunderCats - $13,241,350 (2nd week) (-46.6%) The Princess Diaries 3: The Heir Apparent - $6,917,480 (4th week) (-38.3%) God of War: Retribution: $6,475,267 (4th week) (-39.1%) Jaws: The Return - $4,825,962 (6th week) (-34.7%) The Odyssey: Homecoming - $2,776,251 (9th week) (-28.4%) High School Musical 4: The Reunion - $1,156,524 (7th week) (-33.2%) The Doppelganger - $989,908 (5th week) (-40.8%) I Am Omega: Part 1- $973,933 (4th week) (-52.5%) The Guardian of the West - $375,012 (NEW) August 14-16: 'By The Balls' Goes Down in History When the film was announced, and given its unorthodox premise, marketing campaign, and even reviews, it was clear that 'By The Balls' was getting a huge amount of discussion. Mature audiences were craving something new, something different, and something truly wild amidst a season chock full of blockbusters. 'By the Balls' hit a cultural nerve and became a moment in and of itself....leading to an opening weekend of nearly $50 million. The film may come down to earth soon, as the B- CinemaScore is certainly polarizing, but there's still a lot of curiosity regarding the film. Who knows how well it will hold. Holds were decent this weekend otherwise, while it's also worth noting that 'Resonance' made it to the top 10 with over a million despite being in 20 theaters only. Either way....expect Olivia Cooke and Bradley Cooper's agents to get some more phone calls this week than normal. By the Balls - $47,583,954 (NEW) Amulet II: The Last Council - $12,997,384 (4th week) (-37.6%) A Fool’s Errand - $12,483,551 (2nd week) (-42.4%) ThunderCats - $7,664,299 (3rd week) (-42.1%) The Princess Diaries 3: The Heir Apparent - $4,351,420 (5th week) (-37.0%) God of War: Retribution: $4,150,926 (5th week) (-35.9%) Jaws: The Return - $3,220,816 (7th week) (-33.3%) The Odyssey: Homecoming - $1,971,927 (10th week) (-29.0%) The Guardian of the West - $1,048,120 (2nd week) (+179.5%) Resonance - $1,021,859 (NEW) August 21-23: 'Resonance' Resonates, But Can't Beat 'Balls' 'By The Balls' had a two weekend stand at the number one, but the mixed WOM pushed it over a 50% drop. Either way, the film having very strong weekdays and will continue to chug along into the season. 'Resonance' also performed quite well in its limited expansion either way, getting just under $20m. 'Tulpa' poses a threat at the end of the month, however, and its B Cinemascore may not be enough to save it. 'The Last Day of Summer' got stung by an abundance of family options over the summer and only did $5.8m. The A- Cinemascore should be decent enough, however, and could maybe get it over $20m. By the Balls - $22,350,670 (2nd week) (-53.0%) Resonance - $19,576,182 (2nd week) (+1815.7%) Amulet II: The Last Council - $8,895,428 (5th week) (-31.6%) A Fool’s Errand - $8,130,942 (3rd week) (-34.9%) The Last Day of Summer - $5,755,640 (NEW) ThunderCats - $4,943,015 (4th week) (-35.5%) The Princess Diaries 3: The Heir Apparent - $2,944,512 (6th week) (-32.4%) God of War: Retribution: $2,652,107 (6th week) (-36.1%) Jaws: The Return - $2,270,741 (8th week) (-29.5%) The Guardian of the West - $1,756,540 (3rd week) (+67.6%) August 28-30: 'Alien Fighters' Swan Song Soars 'Tattooed....' - It's a long title. But audiences will miss the quirky, bizarre franchise. Its opening was the highest yet with over $35m, and it seems clear that fans of the saga rushed to see it. It may have weak holding power after this, but the B+ Cinemascore means it at least satisfied fans. 'By the Balls' began to stabilize a bit, while 'Resonance' took a bit of a fall. Most of the family films had nice holds, and audiences are gearing up for the end of summer. I've also heard that in an effort to clear $600m, 'The Odyssey 3' is getting re-released over Labor Day. But more on that later... Tattooed Teenage 4lien Fighters from Beverly Hills: Game Over - $35,423,884 (NEW) By the Balls - $13,679,818 (3rd week) (-38.8%) Resonance - $10,294,305 (3rd week) (-47.4%) Amulet II: The Last Council - $6,495,117 (6th week) (-27.1%) A Fool’s Errand - $5,550,769 (4th week) (-31.7%) The Last Day of Summer - $3,869,832 (2nd week) (-32.8%) The Guardian of the West - $3,168,341 (4th week) (+80.4%) ThunderCats - $3,271,068 (5th week) (-33.8%) The Princess Diaries 3: The Heir Apparent - $2,110,992 (7th week) (-28.3%) God of War: Retribution: $1,743,256 (7th week) (-34.3%) 2 1 1 1
