CAYOM IV Actuals: The Last Hollow Darkness Beyond the Gauntlet of Homecoming

Recommended Posts

Wow, those By the Balls numbers are... ridiculous. Like I’m not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, but the movie isn’t exactly crowdpleasing to excuse either the legs or the opening. Like what I would’ve considered better than expected would be 30/75m in both OW and legs

but thanks! I think even tho to me, this is more baffling than a 200m OW for an r rated movie

Crash 2 did really well, should end in the $140M range which is good. Baked Sale did way better than I thought.

As usual a Red Cresent Pictures film dominates October (AV2 should end around $120M) and Square Mile should end around $80M-$90M. The Swarm also did very strong and Lucid as well. Solid opening for Pizza Cats 2 though it’ll be in for a tough drop next weekend as well as dealing with Sir Thymes in Thanksgiving (Pigeon 2.0?, has McKay’s power, slightly better reception)

Honestly surprised AFE collapses after Crash especially when double features would’ve happened.

It was #10 the weekend before it opened. The only implication is that it dropped more than about 38%, which isn't bad for direct competition.

Simple and inconsequential mistake but fun fact so I'll point it out:

My film's The Amityville Nightmare Part II, an original sequel to an adaptation of the 1991 book Amityville: The Nightmare Continues, both of which are totally fictional.

The Amityville Horror Part II is a different book released in 1981, and an allegedly-true direct sequel to the original bestseller. It's not even set in Amityville; it actually tells the story of the Lutz family after they left the house and the demon supposedly followed them across the country to California, which is a minor plot point in my movie. That book, for what it's worth, is really pretty boring - it's still trying too hard to seem "believable" so the supernatural stuff is pretty underwhelming. There were two more Lutz-based novels afterwards and while they were still published as nonfiction they were clearly all made up and a lot more fun with some really crazy shit.

That book was released the same year as the feature film Amityville II: The Possession, which was a loose, fictionalized adaptation of YET ANOTHER book, Murder in Amityville, which was about the DeFeo murders. The Lutzes actually had the sequel rights to the original 1979 film, so they sued Orion Pictures for using their names and such in the marketing and making a sequel without them. As part of the settlement Orion had to put out a poster that was nothing but a big legal disclaimer saying it had nothing to do with the Lutzes, The Amityville Horror Part II, or the first movie. Bizarrely, though, they were allowed to keep the number two in the title even though it officially wasn't a sequel to anything.

Bold EOY predicts:

Guys and Dolls ends over $125M range with chance at $150M

Wish For Wings opens in mid teens ($14M-$17M) but legs it to $85M

Crysis opens with an $100M five day but ends at $205M-$210M

Food Wars pulls a Ride Along due to lack of comedies as well as minority appeal and has a $35M OW and ends at $120M

Santa Claus Ultimate Badass does a slight underperformance OW at $25M but ends at $150M

Silent Hill 2 does $80M (five day)/$200M

Thymes pulls a Pigeon and does a $60M/$90M/$300M

Home Invasion bombs and does under $30M

Spark BTS beats Lotor DOM for number one

KoTS beats Prince Of Egypt for biggest remake DOM

Fortnight ends up in the upper $200M range ($270M-$285M)

Boom.
