Passion of the CHrist is unusual in that it is a foreign language film in every country on Earth.....no country speaks Latin or Aramaic any more.

Not as a country, but probably surprisingly many can speak or understand it e.g. here.

Until 'recently' Latin was a language you had to have taken in the high school, even with the 'big exam' version if you wanted to study medicine.

Also for non medicine courses of studies you need it still.

= counts roughly 'German speaking countries/regions' incl that part in Switzerland.

Also UK,... I know they teach it there but do not know how big the part of pupils is who have to learn it.

For a time it went a bit down here in Germany, but a third of all learn it as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd foreign language still, tendency increasing again since ~ 10 years or so

In a ~ Humanism high school its usually the 1st foreign language

You'll need it for studying e.g. law, Religion, middle ages history,... how far depends

At least radio stations in Finland, Germany, and Vatican air in Latin still or again since some years (one since 2004)

In Vatican state its still the official language (for probably obvious reasons)

In certain fraternity its the language for e.g. special events (like no non Latin word allowed), middle age specialised musician write and thing in Latin too to a degree.

They even translate books into Latin, e.g. Patrick Süskind's Perfume or also comics, see e.g. Asterix / The Adventures of Asterix.

It gets bought enough to merit the costs it seems
