Purple Minion Posted December 7, 2016 Author Share Posted December 7, 2016 (edited) Weekend figures. Moana opened lower than Zootopia, Tangled, Wreck It Ralph, Frozen, Big Hero 6 and about the same as The Good Dinosaur. You get the idea, nothing too write home about. Could it have a great hold just like in the rest of Latin America, or become the first recent DA movie not to reach $10M? Meanwhile, FB passes Doctor Strange and Trolls now has grossed more than Storks. ::CANACINE : Weekend of 2 - 4 December 2016:: TW LW Movie MXN Total Diff USD Total OW ER Audience Total 01 NE Moana: Un mar de aventuras 59,190,000 59,190,000 2,870,715 2,870,715 0.0485 1,190,000 1,190,000 02 NE Inframundo: Guerras de sangre (Underworld) 27,050,000 27,050,000 1,336,811 1,336,811 0.04942 496,500 496,500 03 NE Sully: Hazaña en el Hudson 20,710,000 20,710,000 999,879 999,879 0.04828 329,700 329,700 04 01 Animales fantásticos y dónde encontrarlos (FB) 16,650,000 269,200,000 -69.02% 822,843 13,303,864 0.04942 324,900 5,380,000 05 NE Qué pena tu vida 15,070,000 15,070,000 727,580 727,580 0.04828 301,400 301,400 06 02 Jack Reacher: Sin regreso 7,160,000 40,880,000 -69.02% 345,685 1,973,686 0.04828 132,700 850,000 07 04 Presencia siniestra (Shut In) 2,340,000 16,800,000 -75.19% 112,975 811,104 0.04828 48,600 390,600 08 05 Espiando a los vecinos (Keepin Up Joneses) 2,140,000 13,940,000 -72.10% 103,319 673,023 0.04828 34,800 261,600 09 03 Trolls 1,780,000 150,310,000 -85.04% 92,062 7,774,033 0.05172 40,600 3,510,000 10 06 La chica del tren (Girl on the Train) 1,770,000 64,570,000 -71.73% 88,111 3,214,295 0.04978 28,900 1,200,000 TOP MOVIES 2016 (lc, up to 04 Dec) 14 269,200,000 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 15 262,428,696 Independence Day: Resurgence 16 261,710,000 Doctor Strange --- 24 172,494,649 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows 25 150,310,000 Trolls 26 149,925,502 Storks Edited December 7, 2016 by Purple Minion 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Purple Minion Posted December 16, 2016 Author Share Posted December 16, 2016 Preliminary industry numbers for 2016 (up to 30 November): Another record-breaking year: a forecast of 327 million tickets sold, a 10% increase from last year, and 15,018 million lc in gross, +9%. In terms of ticket sales, Mexico is the #4 worldwide market and the #5 in growth. ER fall has a big impact in the outcome, but Mexico will still be the #10 worldwide market in total USD gross. With 6,308 movie screens, it's the 4th largest market in the world and the 2nd in growth, just behind China. Ticket prices went down 1% due to all the Summer special offers. Average attendance up to 2.5 movies per year. Warner and Disney are neck to neck in the #1 studio race. http://canacine.org.mx/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Resultados-Preliminares-2016-1.pdf 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Purple Minion Posted December 18, 2016 Author Share Posted December 18, 2016 Weekend estimates: Rogue One opens to $5.1M, a 48% drop from TFA in lc; must have had a strong Sun. If it behaves like TFA, it would end in the $13-15M vicinity. $1.6M OW for Collateral Beauty, higher than Silver Linings Playbook and Birdman. Moana reaches $8.7M with another decent hold. It'd be tough to reach $10M since Sing opens next weekend. 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Purple Minion Posted December 19, 2016 Author Share Posted December 19, 2016 Weekend actuals! Rogue One drop was actually 47.5% from TFA, less front-loaded and potentially better legs. However not enough to enter the yearly Top 10 OWs. Moana had a great 3rd week drop < 50% and it's now the #24 movie of the year in lc. FB towards the end of its lifetime, may fall short of 300M lc. Purple Minion Posted December 30, 2016 Author Share Posted December 30, 2016 December holidays are always great for big budget family movies, and this year is not an exception: Both Sing and Moana have great weekdays. Sing is following the same strategy as SLOP with discounted tickets offers (around 20% cheaper than usual), reaching $6.5M; Moana now has a brilliant 3.8x multiplier and almost $11M total, and it's now the #20 movie of the year in lc gross and audience. On the other side, Ballerina can only muster a $138K debut. Passengers gets close to $3M after 5 days; meanwhile, Rogue One slows down a bit, weekend's gross will be key indicator of future performance. ::CANACINE : Week of 23 -29 December 2016:: TW Movie MXN Total USD Total OW ER Audience Total 01 Sing: Ven y canta 96,540,000 131,860,000 4,698,602 6,417,626 0.04867 2,320,000 3,150,000 02 Pasajeros (Passengers) 60,330,000 60,330,000 2,921,179 2,921,179 0.04842 1,220,000 1,220,000 03 Rogue One: una historia de Star Wars 49,570,000 195,110,000 2,444,792 9,622,825 0.04932 960,000 3,400,000 04 Un padre no tan padre 31,730,000 39,030,000 1,536,367 1,889,833 0.04842 720,000 900,000 05 Belleza inesperada (Collateral Beauty) 29,710,000 81,160,000 1,465,297 4,002,811 0.04932 620,000 1,650,000 06 Moana: Un mar de aventuras 27,940,000 225,490,000 1,355,090 10,936,265 0.0485 700,000 5,080,000 07 ¿Por qué él?
