Reading the movie synopsis, they kept some of the ending of the first book and appear to pull in a bit of the 2nd book. But the stuff they pull in is just not what happens in the 2nd book at all.

The first book ending is very sad. The 2nd book is great, with a few great moments, but overall a slight step down from the first. Haven't started the 3rd book yet.

The third book is the weakest of the three. It’s pretty by the numbers.

I just got the book 2 weeks ago and am currently reading through it before I see the movie next weekend, and I'm really liking it so far. The movie doesn't seem like it's straying too far away from the general story, aside from the fox voiced by Pedro Pascal playing a larger role.

Hopefully doesn't have an Iron Giant level box office performance

To be fair on Iron Giant's behalf, it was really difficult for word of mouth to save it due to social media being non-existent at the time. Based on the presales, I'm confident Wild Robot won't have that kind of performance.

I mean that might not be the thing you think it is. Social media means WOM spreads FAST so Titanic or ET legs are harder. Iron Giant just suffered from bad marketing
